With the Scottish Premiership clash between Dundee and Rangers being called off at Dens Park with the pitch being deemed unplayable, the Gers headed into the March international break back in second spot in the top flight table, but with the abandonment, we are only one point off with a game in hand now.
As attentions turn until the domestic calendar kicks back into play, the summer transfer rumour mill was naturally going to make a bigger return in the meantime, and with it looking increasingly likely that Borna Barisic was definitely moving on at the end of the current 2023/24 campaign, it is now being suggested that a potential deal may well have now been struck and for those who like a flutter, it was likely only his destination that was in doubt.
UK gambling sites estimate that the next 2 seasons will be quite steady overall. While the odds are volatile by nature and are also affected by extra-match factors, bettors with consistent Rangers picks and small wagers will have a +65% positive chance for their slips, as long as they don’t add other high-risk matches to their real-money predictions.
With the 31 year old, 35 capped Croatian international, being out of contract at Ibrox come the end of the current campaign, he has been linked with moves away to numerous other sides in the last few months and it is now being reported that he has struck terms with Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor.
The reports claim that they made a ‘big money offer’ to his representatives a few weeks ago, and with the domestic break now in full force, he has had the time to mull the offer and the adventure over, and it seems that it appeals to him, and that he has now accepted their offer.
Given his current status of being within the final six months of his existing Ibrox deal, Barisic has been free and clear to talk to clubs overseas since January, and it has long been reported on the rumour mill that despite his pretty decent service for us since he arrived from Osijek back in the summer of 2018, Rangers had long been of the mind that there would not be a new contract offer.
Despite that though, he has already smashed through the 200 appearance milestone for us across all competitions, and has been a regular in the first team squad under manager Philippe Clement this year – albeit he has not featured since the end of February, and over all his game time has begun shrinking as Clement continues to tweak the side. Should he not feature again this season, after six years with the club, he would leave having contributed ten goals and 54 assists during his time with us.
If the Barisic news is correct, Rangers fans will turn their eyes towards the futures of John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe, Ryan Jack, Leon Balogun and Jon McLaughlin who are also set to become free agents this summer and Clement takes his first real chance to really shake up the first team set up in a way that better suits his own footballing ethos.
