That can't be 1924. Jimmy Simpson didn't sign for us till later in the 1920s and wasn't a regular till the start of the 30s.

Maybe it's 1934.
I think you might be right.
The Celtic player in the picture I think is Johnny Crum, and he joined them in 1932.
I'm guessing it's the Ne'erday fixture in 1935 at Ibrox, 83,000 Att. Rangers winning 2-1,
which proved crucial, as we won the League by 3 points from the Filth.
Also, those socks of theirs with just the two bold white hoops (which could be funkily folded to look like one) did not come in until that 1934-35 season.

As a wee footnote,
Davie Meiklejohn was Rangers Captain
Jimmy Simpson was Scotland's Captain when we beat England 2-0 at Hampden in April.

The photo below is from that same New Years day Game in 1935

Was at that game!
4-3 for Rangers
Junior MacGillvaray in picture signed for Gers but never played a game for first team
Me too @HIHI Big things were expected of Junior McGillvray, so very talented. He was expected to replace Bobby Shearer but Rangers then signed Kai Johansen and as you rightly say he never featured for Rangers first team.

What a team Third Lanark had then!

Sadly Junior passed away in September :( RIP
