We need a goal scoring RW.

All the players we have who can play there don't score enough goals. Wright, Hagi and Aribo etc.
We haven't been linked with too many who could fill that position so far.

Tom Lawrence, Oladapo Afolayan from Bolton and Rabbi Matondo from Schalke are the only ones whose names have appeared in the papers over the last couple of months.

I do like the move towards bringing in players at U-18 level.

We’ve been too committed to the idea of bringing in very young boys, from 10 and under, and hoping they’ll develop all the way. IMO that’s just making it even harder to pick the right boys. We’ve released a lot over the years and you read that they’ve been here since 8.

Getting them at 16 gives us a much better chance of picking the ones that will be good at 20 and beyond.

I know that things move quickly.. but how on earth can we sell Patterson, get money for Gerrard and get the cash that comes with getting to the EL final and not be able to push on? Having said that a few players need flipped but I just feel as if — very much from the outside— we are going to have a summer like the last one.

Look at the financial losses from the previous seasons.

In Gio we Trust ! Let him get on with it , he didn't do too bad last year with the players he was left with

He really needs to backed financially or he'll walk out eventually like Gerrard did.

Can't be too many managers around Europe who take a club to a major European final then get a budget of a few million in the summer.

Two years and counting now without paying anything more than a nominal fee that can't continue if the team is still expected to compete in Europe and domestically.

“…Colak is expected to get the green light to move to Scotland as soon as PAOK feel the time is right.”

Very confused by PAOK’s stance on this.. it’s pre season?! They’ve got about a month and a half to find a replacement

They have their first game on the 17th of July.

FF regularly disparages and ridicules Scottish football yet seethes when Rangers fail to sign a player - examples such as Simons and Veerman were always going to Dutch clubs before Glasgow.

It’ll also be interesting to see how much sway Gerrard had - would the likes of Aribo + Bassey have come to Scotland without Gerrard/Beale?

Gio would have been well aware of the financial situation before taking the job.

I'll wait until our transfer dealings are complete before passing judgement ,we have done pretty well over the last couple of years without shelling out a lot of money .

Aribo perhaps not as he was already an established first team player with plenty options on the table.

Bassey on the other had was part of Leicester’s youth squad though and hadn’t played a first team game. Think West Ham were linked at the time so maybe Gerrard/Beale influenced that deal.

Since then he’s guided us to a Euro final.

What would the ‘financial situation’ be if he never did this?

Would be happy with a striker, right winger and potentially a left back. Left footed Cb are hard to come by so could see why Gio would stick with Bassey at Cb and look to recruit a left back with Barisic being the other.

Probably fair to say he knew what the financial situation was when taking over but if you'd have said to him at the time that he'd take us to a European final with the biggest turnover ever in the clubs history and still be given relatively nothing to spend after I'm not sure he would have been happy about it.

He's now being asked to qualify for the Champions league which is very difficult or take the club for a long run in the Europa plus take on a yahoo side that might spend £20-25m this summer while having a budget of a couple of million himself.

You can't be critical of the boards transfer plans mate the happy clappers will have your head for it.

If we are really gambling again on CL qualification before further strengthening then some questions need asked. Commercial revenue highest ever, a European final run, Patterson deal, Gerrard deal and all the merchandise money. Where has it all gone?

Its almost like its not even July and we hadnt made a profit in over a decade mate, eh?

Gio would have been given guarantees before Christmas what his budget would be for this season depending on league position and European run. We hardly leak anything these days and it could be a case of us working kna few of our main targets at the moment then we'll have contingency signings for if we lose certain players. He'll also want a look at players returning from loan deals and any youth players who are pushing their way towards the first team. The Dutch love utilising their youth system and the likes of lowry showing he has what it takes saving us spending money on a high fee or wages for someone in the that position. It's clear though we do need a second choice striker a right winger and a centre half of helander can't be relied upon. A lot of teams are still to report back for pre season as well so some managers won't know who fits in their plans and who doesn't for a couple weeks yet. I'd be more worries if we were going into August tomorrow and things are the way they are but I honestly thing this time next month we'll have a minimum of 2-3 players signed

You happy with what you've seen this window so far, mate?

Il judge at the end. The club obviously felt the Colak deal was close to being announced. If Colak is on the plane for Portugal, il be very happy with the window so far. Kept the same squad and improved our defense and striking options. We would only be a quality RW option away from a tremendous window and theres still over 2 months left of the window.

Patience is required mate. Thats all.

spot on

We spent £11m in summer 2020 and what money needed spent in January 21 of that season?

If Gio was going to walk he would have done it by now no?

Said it the other day I just think too many of our support have the absolute blinkers on because of recent performances in Europe. That certainly won't continue if we are fishing around the £2-3m total market every summer now.

Questions need to be asked of Ross Wilson like how can a bottom six club like Aberdeen attract a fee of potentially £8m for a player yet we can't get serious bids for European finalists?

The board as well should just come out and be honest on financial state of the club as fans are being asked for season tickets, merchandise, friendlies, European games, travel, club TV subscriptions and we are watching the same core of players from 3/4 years back most weeks.

No manager will be happy when he's expected to compete against rivals with budgets several times bigger than him.

Also if things go wrong domestically it's GVB who will carry the can for it ultimately. If we don't back the guy properly then the first serious job offer he gets he will walk.

The last 2 agms have stated a requirement to break even going forward. We don't make profit unless we play CL, so unless we sell someone or qualify we wont spend anything significant.

You have no idea what our budget is.

We don't have a transfer budget.

The board have said for years that there's no actual money set aside in a transfer kitty.

Players are looked at case by case, and if the club thinks it's worthwhile, makes an offer.

I actually thought we'd be in a position by now to actually start having a proper budget set aside.

Perhaps they have been? We needed 7m to see the season out, will make a record amount but we have loans to pay back and ashley to pay off. Nobody knows what our budget is for players but the fact the seem willing to buy a striker and a RW before sales should leave people confident and consoled, not in a state of hyperventilating. The club is in good hands

That's why I don't get the panic. A good week of negotiations on our top targets and all of a sudden, all is right with the world again.

Folk really get bogged down in the shite or sugar mentality on here. Things aren't happening as quickly as I would like them to either, but most football fans want the bulk of their business done within the first 3 days of the window being open nowadays. If past windows are anything to go on, we get the bulk of our business done during pre season, not while players and management staff are all on holiday.

Off the pitch is still a bit of a disaster isn't it? Some bad - and costly - recruitment decisions have hamstrung us.

Well he would walk then if he was unhappy with what's available to him then would he not?

Gio has already had to carry the can as he was partly responsible for why we didn't win the league with how he approached games. End of the day nobody knows what budget he's got or what's going on in the background but he's got 1 player in already and almost a matter of time for Colak. Until then his hands will be tied because nobody out of our starting 11 has been sold yet our squad is bloated in certain areas which needs addressed and we can't just keep adding to it.
