Rabbi Matondo

He certainly looks a player and once he is fully match sharp and has gelled with the squad he will cause havoc down the right.

A fully firing Kent and Matondo on the wings will be a massive asset for us.

Having the 5 subs rule now, similar to the 55 season is a massive benefit to us. Matondo rotated coming on for the last 15 will give the hammer throwers tired legs something to think about.

Not overly impressed thus far.

Is he really much better than Candeas and Sakala? ( not that they are/were great either)

Of all the signings to date, he's the one that's not quite cutting it.

Too bad if that goes against the grain here on FF.
3 assists in 120 minutes in the league. If that isn’t cutting it so far, I don’t know what is. Not saying he is the finished article but he had a very good game today.

The old stats argument isn't doing it for me.

Too often he looks like he's in the wrong movie.

Hope the boy proves me wrong.

Started poorly today but came onto a very impressive performance for a guy who is still finding his feet in the team. Some of his early play had shades of Sakala where it looked like he wasn't sure what he was going to do next. You can put that down to the fact he's still settling. Got better as the game went on. From that shot off the bar onwards he really stepped it up, always a menace to them and got two great assists. Loved that the other players are trusting him with the ball, Jack for that third goal for example. And best you can say is that we hardly missed Kent.

“No better than Sakala”

Boy is real quality and has been slaughtered on here for his 1st leg performance in the CL when he was nursing a hamstring tear and written off after 3 appearances as no better than Sakala.

Boy shone today and is going to be a star. It says a lot when we didn’t miss Kent at all today. Rabbi will give us something special on the right, equal to what Kent does on the left.

His assist was quality, having the calm head to get his head up and pick the pass rather than thrash it, something we miss occasionally from others.

A fully firing front line of

Morelos
Kent, Lawrence, Tillman, Matondo

Would be something truly to behold.

That’s forgetting the fringe attacking options who have stood up, such as Colak. We will destroy a lot of teams this season.
Sorry what? You're saying he played with a torn hamstring and is now fit again less than 2 weeks later?

Played brilliant today. As did the entire team. Bit by bit the cohesion is coming at the right time. This team has belief. Matondo will be important for us on Tuesday night.

Stop this nonsense right now.

He wasn't brilliant at all.

Yes, he improved as the game went on and St Johnstone tired.

But brilliant? Do me a favour.

I'm guessing you are downing something half empty. For me he played brilliant.
Then you'd be guessing wrong.

You're also wrong about him being brilliant today.

I was hoping we would sign a winger capable of taking the weight off of Ryan Kent, unfortunately, Matondo couldn't lace his boots.

Still, it's early days, maybe he will improve as he begins to find his feet.

Your hard to please mate I get that.

He ran his heart out today, created chances against a wall of shit and nearly scored. Kent has had many a game of average. Matondo will take a lot from games like this and improve. If he hits the gym and bulks up like Kent did we'll have two Kents or two Matondos. Win win.

Hope you're right mate.

But he has some way to go before he can be compared to Ryan Kent.

I haven't compared him with Kent after 4 competitive games. I think he had a brilliant game for himself. I'm optimistic. If he continues to play like today it's happy days for us.

Mate, he wasn't brilliant today, not even close to brilliant.

We'll have to disagree on that one. Sorry.

He’s still a bit raw and inconsistent but when he’s on form then you can see the boy has ability.

I think we’ll probably get quite frustrated with him at times this season and we won’t see the best of him (consistently) until next season.

He’s going to be an excellent weapon to have in European away games.
He's 2, 3 and 4 years younger than some of our "youngsters" who still have "potential", and is a wide forward. We will no doubt have maniacs frustrated at him, when he isn't scoring or setting up to 2 or 3 a game.

We need to give him time to grow into this side. Relativing anonymous first half, hit the cross bar second half before adding more to the performance.

But it was a poor opposition at home, give him time and see if he delivers.

He, and the rest of the signings to be fair (including Yilmaz who will contribute a lot when settled) look like they’re going to be exactly what we needed.

Matondo will frustrate, hes a winger that’s what happens, and it happened today a couple of times, yet he still got two assists, hit the bar and was a constant menace

Early days but the signs are good.

Thought he had a good 2nd half today. He's going to be frustrating and inconsistent but there's clearly raw talent there. I think he will develop into a good player for us.

Was a bit rubbish 1st half, second half was a million times better. His endeavour for Colak goal and pass for Arfield were big pluses and it looks like he has something about him.

But let's be honest St Johnstone were a bit shite an he had acres of space down the left 2nd half.

He grew on me today, first 30 mins wasn’t overlay impressed didn’t see the electric pace or beating of his defender, I was pleasantly surprised as the game went on, turning point after he hit the Stantion his game grew vastly , impressed by the end

I've had moments like that mate. Probably sounded better in your head.

Yes Scott Wright just runs that out of play whereas Matondo has the quality and composure to get his head up and find Arfield with the pass
Why talk utter shite and just make stuff up that’s not true ? Did wright run it out of play yesterday when he beat first man and flicked ball thru the middle of the other 2

Calm down mate.

Yes, Matondo had a hamstring injury and missed the Livingston game due to it, if you recall? Then he was back for the Union first leg, but visibly protecting himself as is natural with hamstring injuries. Hence him not seeming all out.

Hamstring tears no matter how serious are ones that take a little while to get over mentally even after healed.

Do keep up. :)

I recall it fine. He played against Spurs, missed Livi then was back for Union away. So it couldn't have been a torn hamstring as you said, as these usually result in more than 4 days out injured.

Wasn't really involved that much in the first half yesterday, and most of his touches and challenges looked sloppy. But when he got more involved, he got better with the ball. His speed is ridiculous against hammer throwers. At least when we're leading and the have to lift their block up.

I think their are parts of his game he needs to work on but already seeing signs of Improvement - his two assists yesterday - I have seen Improvemtns in Kent’s game since gio and his team arrived I am expecting the same for Rabbi once he settles in
I can see why schalke let him go as not the finished player but think some work and patience accepting he is still learning will see him develop

I do believe we will see him bulked up a bit and that will help him retain possession

Showed great composure to round the keeper and then take his time to pick out Arfield. Plus the determination to make the tackle which led to Colak’s goal is exactly what you want to see. Looks like a good signing.

He already is taking the weight off Ryan Kent though, he has 3 assists in 120 minutes while Kent was out of the squad injured/resting.

If stats don’t do it for you, what does?

Typical response of those who are clearly wrong but refuse to admit it.

“Aye, he scores goals, but doesn’t do much else”

“ He might have kept a clean sheet, but he didn’t come for that corner in 73rd minute”

“ Two assists and hit the crossbar - meh, looks like he’s in the wrong movie”

Often these gems of wisdom are then completed with such shite as -

“hope he proves me wrong” or “only my opinion” which are equally vacuous and designed to shut down anyone disagreeing.
