Was Michael Beale the real architect of 55?

Beale would bring us 56 soon and a style of football that we would all love.

There was plenty of moaning when he was here, let’s not forget that.

I think he’ll go on to be a very good manager - and I wish him all the best - but the inflexible ‘two number 10s’ style had plenty of critics when we failed to break teams down.

There were numerous occasions we looked flat, devoid of ideas and unfit too, particularly during our two post-Christmas collapses.

If people see him as the architect of the good things, then we can’t dismiss the failings too.

Wouldn’t have worked without a number of players and staff who all contributed so much at the perfect time.

Generally Gerrard needs Beale though because I don’t think he’s that much better tactically than when he first started coaching.

Gerrard came to Ibrox with no manager experience. It was a big name appointment that paid off. Ok he had coaching at youth level at liverpool. I would take Beal any day of the week. He will be a premiership manager in England for sure one day. He caught the Rangers bug and so did his whole family. he is one of us now

They both contributed in their own ways.

My view was that Beale made virtually all of the tactical decisions before and during games and had a big influence on team selection and coaching our shape at training.

Gerrard was the figurehead - the motivator who held the gravitas for the players and got us signings that Beale alone couldn’t have. He handled the media well and played a great leading role until he effectively chucked it after Malmo.

I don’t think Gerrard or Beale would have been a success at Rangers without the other.

Others like Culshaw also played their part with set pieces etc.

I’m not too sure what Gary McAllister did.

Beale should not be near the Rangers manager's job until he sees a minimum of three years of sustained success.
In an ideal world I would agree with you.

But as we see with players all the time, if they’re left to prove themselves elsewhere for too long we’re priced out the market.

One of the remaining ways for us to get genuine quality managers or players is to recognise it before the majority do.

56 was built by signing improvements on our first 11 every window. The first time we didn’t we stood still and Gerrard jumped ship.

As others have mentioned, that management team wasn’t perfect, they were too rigid in their style for a start and there were two. Huge January collapses but it did feel like we were building and improving for the most part.

I thought he was flexible, we went from 2 wingers to two 10s because we weren't getting space, it was two deep lying midfielders that seemed to annoy everyone, unless my recollection is wrong.

Been keeping an eye on QPR since he went there. They've got a tiny budget compared to some of the other teams in that league so he's doing an excellent job. The fans seem to love him as well and are really buying into him.

The Championship is one of the most difficult and unpredictable Leagues in World football, every single side from top to bottom is capable of the unexpected, Beale is doing very well with QPR with limited resources, lower end EPL Chairmen will be keeping eyes firmly on him, continue his great start and I very much doubt he will be there for more than 18 months..

Gerrard was like the front man with the work going on behind him. So, no doubt Beale was a big part of that, if not the main part.

Would love to have Beale sitting in the dugout at the moment but Gio wouldn't even consider listening.

Without doubt Beale was the brains of the operation. From what Halliday has said in his Open Goal stuff it seems that Beale would lead the coaching sessions and tactical meetings. Gerrard has said himself that he surrounded himself with people who were specialised in their roles.

Would definitely have Beale back.

You don't get any Manager from England coming to Rangers if they've had a minimum of 3 years sustained success.

I don’t agree with that. Warburton came here and he was viewed as a success. Our job is bigger than 90% of the jobs in England.

And when was the last time that we had a manager who came here on the back of three years of sustained success?

I think Beale was the tactics but I think its unfair to say he is the reason we won the league and he was a genius. I think all of that management staff played a key part in that success and the improved performances in Europe. I think they all brought something different to the table which got the best out of a reasonably limited squad. I don't think this management team has that same spirit. I don't think the players understand what the coach wants or if they do they are not buying into it.

And Warburton came here after a purple patch 18 months with Brentford. Not 3 years of sustained success.

I think it was fairly obvious he was the tactical nous of the Gerrard era.

His stock was and is high, I hope he has a great career in management and eventually returns to us.

People have a weird hate for Gerrard now and try to discredit him at every turn.

If Beale was the mastermind behind it all, does he also take the flak for the cup defeats? Or our shite start to last season?

Can't have it both ways.

Have always said Beale was the main main who got Rangers playing the way they were, he was the tactician.

Gerrard had passion about him and understood the demand of the fans, his name and stature as a player will no doubt have helped with the attraction of joining Rangers and being coached by him but without Beale his time at Rangers would have been much more mince in comparison.

Fully expect to see Beale at a premiere team some time over the next few years.

The art of great leadership is building a team of complementary skills. Gerrard, for all his inexperience when he joined us, recognised this fully and acted accordingly.
If Beale was to be appointed, he would need a management team with an alternative skillset to his own in order to bring and sustain success.

Warburton had QPR in the play offs. Not saying he won’t be a success but it’s very early days.

If he gets QPR promotion he’s then probably out of our reach anyway, he’ll get a go at EPL jobs then.

This is what some yahoos have been saying for some time, when they were trying to put down Gerrard. Let's wait a wee while.

Saw a recent interview he did with QPR fans TV. He made a couple of interesting comments. First that he loved being the main man as the problem being number 2 was you had to "sell your ideas to the manager" and they sometimes did not get implemented. Which was a frustration. Wonder if this refers to his relationship with Gerrard here. Secondly said he didn't agree taking the players away to warm countries during the winter break as they then had to acclimatize back to wind, cold, rain and it was harder to hit the ground running after the break.

Gerrard said this himself he said he would take years to have the knowledge Beale had.
It's not a dig at Gerrard it shows he had good sense to get a good team around him.

I'm wondering if he wanted to stay when sg left but the board wanted a clean sweep, just a thought.

A lot of revisionism on here about Beale.

If you want to give him the credit for winning the league and our progress in Europe, then he needs to take the fall for two league collapses in a row and a total failure in the domestic cup trophies as well.

I'm glad he's doing well at QPR but I am not convinced he would come back and we would suddenly be running away with league titles.
