Match Thread Rangers v Hamburger SV - Saturday 15:00 - RangersTV

I'll watch the 2nd half later. Could only watch bits and pieces on my phone.

Not sure there is much you can take from these games mind you other than looking for the odd wee golden glimpse of talent / vision etc. Hopefully the next game he plays something closer to his idea of his strongest side.
 
Not long in. Not much to take from that today. Fairly bog standard pre-season fare.

Some very nice passages of play, some sloppy moments. Lots of rusty legs and new players trying to find their feet.

Nothing really screaming up nor down about how we’re looking for me and overall the game itself was pretty dull.

Deserved to edge it and did.

Wasn’t the greatest spectacle but to sum up imho:-
Butland commands his area had no chance at their goal it was a peach
Ridvan should have lb berth no question got stuck in well against some much bigger germans
Tav was turned inside out too many times but still is main man driving us forward
Raskin is a different class and already pulling the strings
Fashion did what Fashion does multiple Third Division touches breaking down promising moves but then scored
Sima a bit disappointing didn’t win a single header I saw but good pace and it is very early days much more suited to rw than cf
Yfeko big unit and was marshalled well by Souttar if Goldson can build a good relationship with him too then we may not need another new lcb
Rice played with the maturity of Steven Davis at 16
Lammers tidy skilful I don’t think we need have any worry’s about him scoring in Scotland
Cantwell Lawrence Dowell Roofe Dessers all put themselves about and got minutes under their belt.
We are certainly going to be a different proposition from last season once everyone is up to speed.

By far the main thing that came from that game was the performance of Bailey Rice. Head up all the time looking for a pass and I don’t think he wasted one pass. I know we are desperate for our own young guys to come through and he could be it. Big, tall and athletic.
As for Matondo?! Dear oh dear.

His defending can be questioned but ffs needs to be balanced with his positive contribution attacking wise.
There needs to be a balanced approach to his contribution overall and making trite posts about how bad his contribution is defensively alone by certain posters is inane.
 
Cantwell said in his crossbar challenge video basically the new boys and everyone else know the manager wants to play fast flowing football. I cant see that. It looked like slow build up play . I know it's only pre season but I don't see this handbrake off or a change in style. Hopefully it comes as we have some really good quality players within the squad. There was positives with Bailey Rice and Roofe I thought.

I wouldn’t judge too much on today. I think he was pretty decent against Newcastle. These games are only pre season and some players will still be rusty. Plus the team need time to gel. They boy will do just fine - give him time.

Thought he was a handful against Newcastle but totally opposite today
 
Perfection from Beale again. Not the best, most connected, fluid performance but a decent test and good minutes in legs. Creative juices flowing from this team and when it gels, someone is getting pumped. Onwards and upwards.
 
I won't pretend I've got skills at spotting young talent & / or predicting how they'll potentially develop
I also know that making any meaningful judgement on a pre-season friendly is a bit foolish
I recognise they both had limited bit parts to play & maybe the opposition weren't that great
So I won't be reading too much into it

However all that aside for the monemt - Rice & Yfeko really did look the part to me today
Both of them had the composure and maturity of many players 10 years their senior
They didn't look even slightly out of place & at times looked as if they'd been part ot the team for years

I realise I sound a bit OTT - But I still feel it's justified

I think Sima will be more effective from out wide. Doesn't look comfortable centrally. Lammers looks like a great signing already.

Danilo Dessers and Lammers up top could be lethal (if he signs*) Sima and Roof as good options too! Shout out to Roofe today he looked sharp, nice to see him back

He’s more effective out wide because he is a right winger. He won’t be used as a striker this season unless we have players injured. People are being far too hard on him.
 
Thought we were better in the first half today than the 2nd. There's still some gelling issues with the new forward players, but thatll come. We look fit and sharp enough. Should've really pumped HSV today, especially in the first half.

Hamburg look absolutely dung. They're nowhere near ready for the season.

He created 3 good chances in the first half from the right hand side, his natural position. Better finishing would've seen him with 3 assists.

He's also not a striker.

If I'm not mistaken that was Sadiq's position as well ?

I certainly won't be writing him off just yet but - I have to say he didn't impress me much today
I sincerely hope he'll settle into a decent game ASAP
 
I've just got home from Ibrox. I thought that we could and maybe should have scored four or five goals today - purely on the clear cut chances. I really liked Lammers and I also thought Yilmaz was good. I do think however that over these next two games Beale has to make up his mind over what is his strongest starting eleven and play it. The squad should be well up to match fitness but he needs to get the team to start to gel together.

Sadiq is a striker. Sima is a right winger/ right forward. The 2 friendlies he has played as a striker through necessity.

He played against us for Slavia Prague as a right winger too. Surprised people don’t know this.

Agree. It's still reasonably early but the last thing we want is us having another season of wasteful finishing.

We should be aiming to regularly be destroying teams 4 and 5 nil instead of scraping a 1 or 2 goal win or a draw. It will be the difference between success and total failure like last season was.

Get that accuracy and clinical finishing sorted pronto Rangers.

Well I did say almost - his eyes were visible so he could see where he was going and what skin was on show around his eyes looked white as a sheet. The poor lad probably down with one of these bugs that poleaxes you for a few days. We’ve all had them.

You got all that from a glimpse , when he was entering the stadium ( from I presume 20 yards away ) with his HEAD DOWN and his face almost completely covered . ?

No I got all that from about 2 ft as the steward escorted him from where the players park their cars through the throng of men and boys trying to get autographs of the idols. Connor went in just before him with his lad and I was with my lad so was bending down talking to my son when he made is way through. There were plenty of people who saw exactly the same.
He looked rough as in ill or in pain not rough as in pished or hungover. FWIW toothache would explain him holding his hoodie so tightly at his mouth but I can only speculate all I do know is from about 2 ft, even with his hoodie ALMOST completely covering his face and with his head down - he looked rough.
Hope that scratches that itch!

I think if he was as poorly as you're saying we would be hearing , or have heard a lot more about it . First of all he's polaxed with a bug ( but somehow managed to walk and attend )now you're saying it might be toothache.? What next Covid.

No idea pal . My original post was he looked rough and he did. He didn’t look injured he looked rough. I can only speculate as to why he looked rough but imho he looked rough.
Maybe he’s caught the same bug you seem to have up your arse?
