Match Thread Dundee v Rangers - 12:00 Sunday - Sky Sports - MATCH POSTPONED

The game being off has both positives and negatives.

Would've been a bonus to get this game played, as not to have a midweek week fixture coming up.

Bonus is that we'll have more player's back when it does go ahead.
And not blowing out their arse. This can only be good for the squad in re-energising and getting players back to fitness. I feel for the fans that have travelled, piss poor that a top flight club can’t drain the pitch, or at least cover it when the weather is predicted to be bad.

That pitch did not get in that state overnight, surely Rangers and the SPFL/SFA should have been advised yesterday and an inspection made.

Once again the ordinary fan is treated with contempt by the authorities.

I wonder, is Tannadice is in the same condition? Only 100 yards down the street!
Excellent point
Groundsmen aren't very good letting it into that state

I really can't decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Raging that we won't see the gers this weekend but I fear another moronic governing body decision. Something really dumb may be on the horizon once again

The only game in every Scottish division called off due to this “heavy rain”.

Clement again referring back to the fact this is the Premiership and you expect the best pitches. The game here needs to buck up its ideas, the standards outwith ourselves, them, Motherwell, Hearts and Hibs are appalling. Every other park in the top flight is either a mud field or plastic.

Do teams not have covers on pitches any more? Id have thought that Dundee, especially, given the pitch's history for being waterlogged, would have covers available to roll out for periods of sustained rain?

You could see the other night they played Aberdeen there was big areas with no grass never mind the right side penalty area which looked like it was 1% grass 99% sand/mud!

Scottish football administration doing what it does best, screwing up. Why don’t you do something right for a change SPFL and fine Dundee. That’s a disgrace of a pitch and for them to not have notified Rangers is shocking. There’s no way Dundee should escape scot free for this scenario.

From BBC website:

Nelms (John Nelms, Dundee FC Chief Executive)told BBC Scotland: "We were supposed to get 6mm of rain overnight and we got 12. The groundsmen have been out here since 05:00 and we just ran out of time. If we had a three o'clock match, the pitch would probably be playable."

Games are sometimes delayed for all sorts of reasons (Chelsea v Arsenal womens match was delayed on Friday night because Arsenal had to go buy replacement socks from Chelsea store!), so could this not have been played later today?

So he knew the game was in doubt at 5am this morning but never contacted Rangers. Just called himself out right there.

Didn't Dundee suspend their groundsmen recently? No surprise its off, the pitch will be zero priority for these clubs who will see it as an easy cost saving to reduce grounds team, don't switch on undesoil heating and don't have proper drainage in place/maintained.

Feel for the fans who have already made the journey but if there is a positive to take the team get more recovery time and avoid more injuries.

After a gruelling game only three days ago they would have had to endure further training sessions to prepare for this game. For a team to then be so incapable in maintaining their ground for a standard level of rain is abysmal.

Going forward rules should be clear in respect to this situations with a 3-0 loss as a punishment. If there was a weather warning type situation then it’s understandable but it was just a night of rain.
It’s a joke
Here in Glenrothes there is a match being played in Warout Stadium just now.
This stadium is home to an amateur team yet it is still playable.
We aren’t that far from Dundee and it pissed down here all night.
Dundee a so called professional outfit can’t get their pitch playable is just a perfect example of the tinpot clubs in our tinpot league.

Yes, was it not something to do with the amount of games that have had to be called off due to the pitch?

They've got a shit pitch and already had 3 postponements - why didn't they consider covering the pitch overnight? Should be fined by the league at the very least.

No pride in their pitch mate, they’re an embarrassment.

Extremely poor reflection on Dundee, not only are they the only club to cancel a fixture today with tv scheduled to attend but they don’t have the decency to indicate in advance that there was a possibility of postponement - they really should be sanctioned for that. All those travelling bears wasting their time and money.

What a shitty tin pot club Dundee are. Just look at the state of that pitch - see photos on Rangers website. Nothing to do with rain overnight - it was in a shocking state to begin with. Got to be some sort of recriminations here but the SPL will probably do eff all. Lack of communication with Rangers unforgivable.

Chuck in their changed vote in extremely dubious circumstances to present c*ltic with the league and you have a full house.

This has got Liewell written all over it,did that pitch have mud patches yesterday.
Behave mate.
It could be argued it suits us too due to having an injury ravaged squad and having played a tough game 3 days ago.
This gives us time to get some injured players back.
If anything that mob would have been desperate for us to play today in those conditions hoping we drop points.

Nelms: What we needed to do was make sure the champions were top of the league going into the international break. It's a feelgood factor for us, and our groundsmen were here at 5am with the hoses on full pelt.
