Gary McAllister attacked.

The fact he joined Liverpool after playing for Leeds could possibly have something to do with it.

Those clubs hate each other and anyone who moves to one of the big Lancashire/Merseyside clubs from the biggest club in Yorkshire, or in reverse, has always been the target of hatred and abuse.

Anyway, it's a sickening attack, no matter the reason.

Possibly, however as part of their last (possibly ever) top division league win it’d be some grudge to want to attack him for going to Liverpool years later!

Agreed mate, but Cantona had to get a police escort every time he came back to Elland Rd with Man United and Strachan used to get it tight for going the other way.

My old man told me about McQueen and Jordan being the victims of real hatred too when they moved.

Whoever responsible is absolute scum anyway mate.

I lived for years in Leeds after his transfer. I never found anyone who had anything but admiration for McAllister.

One can only hope this scumbag is caught, jailed and has their life ruined by this.

No place for it in society.

Sounds very sinister, whoever did it is a coward and a scumbag, hopefully a severe kicking and jail sentence is coming his way

Gary Mac is a real gentleman. Absolutely sickened to hear that. Fucking disgusting.

It’s completely to be expected. The mentally challenged support have been allowed to get away with everything and egged on by the media. Openly attacking anything Rangers has been allowed and physical assaults was always the next step.

Scotland has tried to normalise their caveman support and their behaviour for the past decade.
Was it a Celtic fan who did it ?

That crossed my mind. I know you're a Leeds man and was gonna ask how Gary was thought of down there

I know what type my moneys on. And I'd wager a lot of it.
Also I bet they'd have a better guess if it was a Tim employee

I was aware of the fierce Leeds United/Manchester United rivalry but wasn’t aware of similar feelings around Liverpool, Everton or Manchester City.

Absolute fucking scum.

I just hope he’s okay. Having been jumped twice, it leaves lasting effect and can make you very nervous out and about. I hope the big mans okay.

Same mate, I was jumped a year a half back, well my mate was to be fair, I was in a kebab shop after a fair few drinks and he had waited outside for me.

I ran out to help him and after getting a few good punches into a few of them they finally got me down and booted my face full force. Spent hours in hospital getting surgery on my lip.

I still don’t feel fully comfortable out and about.

Hope Gary recovers quickly and it doesn’t effect him too much.

I think the fact the headline calls him “ex-Leeds United, Liverpool and Scotland midfielder” rather than “current assistant Rangers manager” a bit strange. He might well have been attacked because of his links with Liverpool as stated, however the headline would seem to go out of its way to make sure there is no suspicion of a mentally challenged being involved.

Whatever the case, I hope the scumbag who did it gets caught and punished
Much as I hate to defend the Sun it says ‘Rangers No 2’ in the headline on the Scottish edition - probably just referring to him in relation to where most of their readership will know him.

I don't know specifically of any McAllister hatred mate, but there's plenty hatred between the teams and it only takes one arsehole.

No love lost with any of them mate.

Historically Revie and Shankly's teams evolved around the same time, while Everton were the biggest club on Merseyside back then.

Red Rose v White Rose rivalry.

I'm not saying it's the cause of this disgusting attack, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The country's full of morons now sadly.

Awful news. One of the most liked and respected guys in football.

A cowardly attack by an absolute low life.

Cheers MU, knew about the rivalry but sometimes certain players can cross those bridges. McAllister does genuinely seem like a decent guy, he doesn't come across like the kinda guy who would be looking for aggro

He’s a quiet, well mannered, unassuming man, disgusting that this has happened, I hope they catch the bastard.

Terrible.

I hope Gary and his wife are OK.

Can't even have a night out with your other half without some prick ruining it.

I hope they catch the bastard.

I expected to open this thread to read it was a scumbag Celtic fan in Glasgow; I'm really surprised it happened in Leeds, where I'd have thought he was a legendary figure.

The attack sounds awful.

Hope he's on the mend soon.

So you have the situations with Tav, Grealish, Smalling, and even on Saturday two yobs went for an AFC Fylde player on the pitch after they beat Stockport in the FA Trophy semis, it’s becoming a bit too often to be coincidental, it’s a mark of thug honour to attack footballers.

Leeds/ Liverpool were rivals in the 70s when both teams were competing for the title, i think its more Leeds/ Man U since then.

I train and have trained a lot of footballers, if it was a 1 on 1 situation with these yobs, i know who my money would be on..

Garry Mac’s family lives permanently in Yorkshire so I would guess he’s regularly in Leeds. This sounds like a random horrendous attack rather than some football-related hatred

Scumbag. I've met Gary Mac and he is an absolute gentleman. Really hope the little fcuker gets what he deserves.

Sickening.

Its a reflection of our deteriorating society, locally with our hopeless motley crew of a 'government' and UK wide the picture isn't great either.

I know plenty Leeds fans and Gary Mac is very popular among them.

This reeks of a mentally challenged on tour.

It could be anything, football reasons or even just some scumbag having a pop at a stranger. Society is going downhill rapid in this country.

They do have previous for this sort of thing.

A drunken thug chanted: "Fergie, Fergie, shut your mouth" after punching Sir Alex Ferguson between the legs, a a court heard yesterday.
Celtic fan Kevin Reynolds, 44, is thought to have had a go at the Manchester United boss because he once played for rivals Rangers.

At this moment in time no one can say for sure why it happened but would anyone rule out a yahoo.

Kind of cowardly thing they get up to on a regular basis.

Has the hand of Timothy all over it, it's the sort of shit they do. No chance Gary McAllister is being attacked for no reason in Leeds ffs. It's because he is a current Rangers employee and a passing inebriated knuckle dragging yahoo has spotted him and took a cowardly cheap shot.

Scum behaviour! The whole thing sounds bizarre!

The sun reporting it happened at 4am?

No they don't: 'The source added: "Gary was in hospital from about 3am to 12 noon. His face is a mess. He must have at least 10-12 stitches in his top lip.'

I'd guess the incident happened between 0100-0200 hours. Police had to be alerted, attend the scene and then he'd have been off to hospital. Gary had spent the day in Liverpool at their legends match before taking his Mrs out for a meal when he got back.

McAllister is a legend in Leeds. Part of their title winning glory days, considering it’s a one club city, I’m very surprised at this. Obviously it takes all kinds, but of all places he should feel safe is Leeds I’d have thought.
A one-club City yes, but Leeds/Bradford are two cities sharing the same Metro area like Dallas/Ft Worth only with slightly more flat caps and whippets.

Don’t know what has happened over the last couple of seasons but the amount of football related thuggery and violence seems to have ramped up again. At games and away from the games “fans” seem to be trying to outdo each other to see who has the biggest scumbags within its support.

It’s gone from keyboard warriors online threatening violence to actual harm.

I hope Gary Mac isn’t too shaken up by this
