Patrick Thistle Rainbow Strip

I never seen the original thread that was chopped on this but going by the OP's first few lines I'd assume people were offended by it.

No idea why anyone would be offended but there are people out there that are for some reason!

Ah, I see.

Anyone offended by this is a strange one.

Just to recycle a comment I made on the last thread, I think some of the attitudes shown in these threads show exactly why it's still necessary to do things like this. Thankfully those attitudes seem to be in the minority.
In the wider world/society I wouldn't be too sure of that.

And publicly people may say one thing but deep down may have another view altogether.

I think with each generation it's getting more and more acceptable. I am 36 and people my age are a bit of a mixed bunch but most don't care. The generation above still hold a hold of older views and that's how they were taught and brought up so it's not really their fault for the most part.

The generation below me though, they genuinely don't give a shit so by the time they all have kids no one will be left to complain.

Some will still find something, it's inherent in some people's nature.

It was me that posted the original thread and poll. Woke up and there's 4 pages but i didn't have the time to read the opinions.

Why does the LGBT community have to be represented on a football top? Am i missing something here? Does that mean we need a pic of some guy fųcking a woman sewn into tops to represent the heterosexual community?

Our culture is slowly starting to accept that heterosexuality isn't the only acceptable sexual orientation but i really dont get this.

I’ll give the same reply as I did in the first thread.

We live in an age where we all realise being gay is normal and not some perversion you can somehow catch. You would have to be some sort if Neanderthal to treat homosexuals as abnormal. The rainbow flag is a great symbol of support for a group of people who historically have been punished for simply falling in love.

BUT!

I see some companies including football teams using it as a means to profit from the pink pound and isn’t really anything about true support or understanding for the LGBT community. I’m just a bit cynical of Thistles motives. Probably going to be a smart enough shirt which thistle will profit from shifting a few to people who may not by thistle fans.

Why is it about fucking and not about love?

Nothing has to be represented in a football top, I sincerely doubt that anyone is forcing Partick to do it either.

I couldn’t care about Anyone else’s Sexuality and I couldn’t care about Patrick Thistle

However surely there new nick name should Jaggy Bums

I’ll get ma own coat

Also I'd like to see the comments if this is posted on sites like football shirt culture. Would be interesting getting a more worldwide view.

Both go hand in hand anyway so maybe a pic of a man and woman gazing lovingly into each others eyes then? I'm trying to figure out why this rainbow has appeared whilst there's never been anything for the heterosexual community.

rainbows appear when the rain stops.
dried up now.

it'll be a cnut tae wash though.colour running

Yes it is, that’s suggesting every Thistle fan is going to buy into this or support the LGBT message this strip conveys which they won’t.
Our orange strip was due to supply and demand, we wanted it and we got it.

Totally different dynamic IMO.
Theyre selling a kit that they expect there will be a lot of interest in - and a bit of criticism - but know the positive attention itll get from those likely to part with their cash means itll make them a good bit of money.
Buying the partick strip is no more an acceptance/approval of LGBT than buykng our orange strip was approval of the message that conveys.

I'm the same age as you and I'd agree, hopefully that's the way it's going.

I wonder how many PT fans are going to cut about in this and that's my only issue – surely strips are supposed to appeal to the support.

At first glance, this looks like a howler. I may well be wrong, but it looks like they've disregarded what their fans would want in order to get some good press or some viral sales.

I wasn't aware that the strip has a pic of a gay couple gazing lovingly at each other.

You know fine well that the answer is because the heterosexual community has not been outlawed at any point, nor have they been barred from marrying, or having/adopting kids.

If Partick decide they want to show support for the LGBTQ+ community then that is entirely their choice. Why does it upset you so much?

Because people dont get beaten up, bullied, insulted, shunned, and in some countries jailed or even stoned to death for being heterosexual? It's not a difficult one really when you think about it.

I don't understand why anybody would have any objections to this. I can understand why people wouldn't give a toss either way, or might think it's not a very nice top, but why would somebody be upset by a show of support for gay people?

It's a puzzler alright.

I appreciate what you’re saying, but I personally don’t think they are going to sell a lot of these, unlike our Orange strip that was requested/hoped for by the fans!

Being force fed something is a lot different to eating of your own volition.

Making a product available is not anything close to force feeding

Itll sell. Hipsters will love it. Wouldnt be surprised if they announce money from them going to LGBT charities too which would also boost sales.

I've previously argued that we should do a limited edition Follow with Pride top for the month of May, with a percentage of the takings from sales going to LGBT charities.
Last seasons away top wouldve been ideal, just change the sashes to the rainbow (like i expect the thistle kit will probably look like)
