Celtic face threat of multimillion pound compensation claim(The Times)

Well Said Pal I also been contacted mostly about point scoring side of it although had I've had a couple of people say to me that they know it's me that's involved in this and The Broomloan for Bears. whether it was a threat I don't know but they know where I am or find me I have lately been watching my back walking home from the pub it's only 5 mins from my house but started doing it anyway

That's disgraceful, but not a surprise nowadays and if you get something like that by PM or print in any form, I'd certainly suggest contacting Police Scotland regarding it. Yeah, I know how good they are, but it should be noted.

The thing is JF, BN and anyone else affected by these clowns, they're all cowardly, faceless, bawbags. Sounds like they may be media men (or politicians) if you lose the faceless part of that.

Feck them all.

Mate if you've not sent it yet could you put a link to the Airport meeting on it maybe but well done keep the pressure on
That airport meeting could be pure kryptonite to them jf1960,if it gets the American lawyers interested, the only stumbling block is Boston which is heaving with sympathisers.

I've said it before, I'll say it again and I will continue to say it. This, is your justice minister;

Scotland-724664.png

Do not expect Celtic to be treated like any other suspect of sex crimes.
what i cant get is why a muslims would back a football team, who are so pro catholic,do the Crusades ordered by the pope, mean nothing to them,he s a twat anyway and is an example along with Black of the dearth of talent at the SNP/sinn fein, i think there are probably one or 2, out of the most incompetent government ever in Scotland who maybe cut the mustard at Westminster,i wouldnt send this walloper to the shop for me, let alone be justice minister, maybe one of his uncles can take him to the old country, and show him how they deal wit on second thoughts mibbeees naw, he probably doesnt know it against the Law in this country, but by the end of this YEAR HE WiLL

The emails between Adam Tomkins & Willie Rennie are interesting Fraser.

In them Tomkins tells Rennie that in his meeting with Ian Maxwell at SFA Maxwell informed him of outstanding cases that would ‘test the veracity’ of the separate entity claim by them.

Separately there are strong rumours that someone is at large in relation to one of these cases.

This could be paedo number SEVEN from the list of Gerry McSherry & Hugh Birt ?
Why was Gerry McSherry ignored ? Who were the police who hid and suppressed the names that he gave them ? and dismissed it as "nothing to see here" .
They are the guilty ones, McSherry needs to expose them and the names that he gave to them and they did NOTHING, these guys that he reported it to and their superiors who IMHO intentionally ignored and buried it in the police force are culpable.

Fixed his title for you, the guy is an imposter.

So IF the rumours are correct and we are looking at 100+ survivors, that’s still an industrial scale size number of ruined life’s that have went unpunished.

So giving that maybe the “scout on the run” has a few to his name, you would have to suggest that the others have been abused by the “famous five” on historically based crime’s.

Intresting point @Humbug picked up on about the ex players off the record,I’m willing to bet they know who the player is that was also abused that has not came forward,it suggests that it may even be one of them.

Just one player needs to break the ranks!

I watched the film spotlight last night about the Boston abuse scandal (I’m sure everyone knows about it)
There are so many parallels in the story with the Celtic FC scandal
The names that were provided 20 years earlier reminded me of the Gerry McSherry list provided.
People covering up the scandal because of their faith in the church reminded me of people refusing to accept Celtics guilt because of their long time support

Something else jumped out at me and that was when someone was asked which side of the story they wanted to be on when it came out
It’s now we’ll know that there has been a Celtic abuse scandal however I believe that it’s only the tip of the iceberg and there will come a time when officials, reporters, politicians and even supporters etc etc will need to decide which side of this story they want to stand on.

A group of posters on here are doing sterling work to keep this in the public glare however it seems that every news outlet in this country has wiped it clean not to mention the Scottish government who are doing everything in their power to keep a lid on it.
I hear you brother so it s up to us all to keep it out there, this aint going away keep up the good work lads, when this story broke all those years ago i thought it a couple of isolated incidences, it gave me something to hit them with verbaly, but as this story has developed and the layers peeled back it becomes more and more shocking to me, this Scandal goes all the way to the top SCOTTISH establishment , this is not about point scoring, way bigger than that this is about a Government cover up and the industrial rape of children, (Sexual, Nonce, Protectors), and any one still supporting the nonce protectors, realy needs to examine their concience, and ask if the SNP are prepared to ignore the rape of the countries children, what other lies and falsehoods have they to cover up

You are right there is no middle ground on this subject you are either for protecting paedophiles or against them its plain and simple, the lines are drawn, some of the more astute enablers have been silent for a bit Dornan for instance, i mean what sick baastas take his boy to a club which he knows to be riddled with peados

Sent to Boston Globe and New York Times. I could obviously have added more. But with more and more of us emailing then I’m sure they’ll get more information.

Dear sir/madam
I am writing to you reference of an ongoing situation in Scotland UK at the moment. This is reference Celtic Football Club who’s boys Club frequented on annual tours to Kearney,New Jersey. This was around the year of 1991.
In recent months there have been 6 convictions of child abuse against named club. But one name sticks out here. The conviction of Frank Cairney (general manager at the time of traveling to New Jersey).
One young player at the time who later went on to be a professional player suffered at the hands of Cairney on American soil and was later convicted on more charges of molestation.
The New Jersey complaint was upheld by the club but was later found out to be covered up. This has been printed as fact.
At the moment in Scotland politicians are pushing for a full independent inquiry dating back over 40 years. Please will you take the time to read a reply I received from Ruth Davidson MP.

Thank you for writing to me with your concerns surrounding historical child abuse within Scottish football.

The reports that have emerged in recent years are extremely distressing, and while it is welcome that Jim Torbett and others have been convicted for their depraved acts, this issue clearly goes wider. Any further allegations of criminality must be swiftly investigated by the police so that further criminal proceedings can be brought where necessary.

The Scottish Football Association’s Chief Executive has apologised to those young people who suffered sexual abuse in football and I think he was right to do so. The Independent Review of Sexual Abuse in Scottish Football commissioned by the SFA found child protection policies at all levels were and still are not fit for purpose. The report has made a number of recommendations to address this and I believe they should be implemented as soon as possible. It is vital that we in Parliament play our part in holding the SFA and other bodies to account on this
Further to this, my colleague Adam Tomkins, MSP for Glasgow, has written to Ian Maxwell, chief executive of the SFA and to Peter Lawwell, chief executive of Celtic FC to seek urgent meetings on this subject. Through a series of criminal trials, we now know something of the scale of the abuse committed by a number of the men associated with Celtic boys’ club. What we do not know is what Celtic FC knew about these offences and when they knew it. These questions must now be independently and fully investigated and, if necessary, a compensation scheme should be established such as that set up earlier this year by Manchester City FC.

It is clear that victims of child abuse in football have been let down, and I very much hope Police Scotland, clubs and the SFA will give them the closure they need and the justice they deserve.

Please be assured the Scottish Conservatives will closely monitor developments on this matter over the coming weeks and months.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Davidson

As you can see from the above this is becoming a very serious issue. I have more replies from other various MP’s and also one from UEFA. The European football governing body.
I was just wondering if there was any investigative journalism done at the time by yourselves or anyone else as there was obviously abuse carried out on American soil. And also were you aware that the above had taken place at all? I can refer you to “The Times” newspaper and a journalist by the name of Marc Horne who is currently taking up the story in the United Kingdom. I’m also wondering what your views are on this and wondered if you would take the time to reply to myself.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my email and I look forward to your reply.

Kind regards,

IF there was a proper investigative journalist preferably down South who starts peeling back the layers and multiple victims testimonies either from the witness box in court transcripts or interviews after the convictions they would have a full blown conspiracy to unravel

I got the same within 5 minutes John

Patricia Wen doesn't have a good reply record, not with me anyway.

I have sent her 4 emails in 6 weeks, they all have 10 days to reply or it's sent again, and she has given me nothing, yet.

If we get them onside Stateside, mega damage can be done.

I think Patricia needs a bombardment at the 1 time.

Cheers mate sent to both airport report also

Not sure if you are aware, but it was reported that the New Jersey Police were notified but never proceeded. It could be something the journos could follow up as there would have to be an incident number I would imagine. The report below is from 13th August 1996.

https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Second+boss+accused+as+boys+relive+abuse+agony.-a061256589

FIVE years ago, police in America were asked to probe claims that there had been an incident involving boys' club general manager Frank Cairney and a young boy during a trip to the USA.

The boy later played for Celtic's first team.

Police investigated, but no action was taken.

I will post the full report below

A second Celtic Boys' Club official was last night accused of abusing young players.

One former starlet - now 28 - told of a nightmare car journey with the man in the mid 1980s.

Paul, who doesn't want his full name published, was 15 when he joined Celtic Boys' Club.

And within weeks the man grabbed his inner thigh in the changing room and said: "Your trousers are too tight."

Paul said: "Another time, when we were alone in his car after a tournament, he asked me into the front seat.

"I was scared and put my kit bag on my leg. But he threw the bag in the back seat and tried to put his hand on my knee.

"He talked about my flannels being too tight, grabbed my inner thigh and touched my groin.

"I swore, and he said that language was unacceptable at Parkhead.

"He punched me on the shoulder and tried to touch my groin again.

"Then he hit me again and the car swerved.

"I punched him back, and we drove on to my home in silence. It was the longest, most frightening journey of my life.

"I told my mum, who said not to go in his car again."

Six weeks later Paul and his team flew to New Jersey for a tournament.

After it ended, he and two pals decided to head for the coast for a couple of days. But after 24 hours they were summoned back by the official.

Paul said: "I was told to report at a different time from the others. I met him in the changing rooms.

"He said he was very distressed, and had been concerned for our safety.

"There were tears in his eyes. I got frightened.

He put his arm round me and I told him to f*** off. He punched me in the chest and I ran out."

Again, Paul told his mum. And his dad spoke to the official when the party returned home.

Paul added: "I never played football after that. My dreams were shattered, and this man deserves to pay .

"There's not a day when I don't think about what happened. I should have come forward but I was too embarrassed.

"I have a son now, and I'd never let him play for Celtic Boys Club."

Another young Celt, who asked not to be named, said he was abused by the man in 1984.

The 26-year-old, who was 14 at the time, said:

"If you were at training he would always try and touch you up. It often happened when he drove boys home.

"A couple of times when I was in his car he leaned over and rubbed me between my legs.

"I was too embarrassed to do anything about it and couldn't tell anybody.

"But all the boys knew what he was like. Most people just tried to keep away from him."

Another man saw the official fondle a young Celtic player.

He said: "We were in a hotel in Dundee the night before a game and I left my room to look for the official.

"I heard his voice from a bedroom and walked in, to find him fondling a boy who was lying on the bed in his underpants.

"The man saw I was shocked, and said the lad had a muscle strain."

LEGENDS PRAISE DAILY RECORD

Celtic stars last night praised the Record for exposing the Boys' Club pervert scandal.

And they told of their relief that the whistle has finally been blown.

Lisbon Lions' skipper and former club manager Billy McNeill said: "I'm glad that it has been uncovered. This type of thing must be eradicated once and for all."

Ex-boss and striker Lou Macari said: "At last this is out in the open after years of gossip."

Charlie Nicholas said: "Guys like Alan Brazil and John McCluskey have been strong enough to come forward and say what happened to them. I applaud them for that."

And former skipper Danny McGrain added: "This is the sort of thing that you must sort out and get the guys involved."

Were you a victim?

Going by the info found by @Humbug the fella that wrote that article state’s it was a £250k a year contract, then ties were severed.

Then McCann honoured the last year of the contract and then opted to renew, you have more than enough scope to break a contract on the charges and sentence of Torbett.

McCann came in with new money,he STILL kept business going, there you have it in writing,he KNEW and looks like the info was correct after all,not that I ever disagreed who told me he was more than aware.

Would these accounts of the paper trail be available from CFC annual accounts or at company house showing numbers?

Fergus mentions at Torbett trial, that the matter has now concluded, he was a bit premature.

JIM TORBETT, the man who shamed Celtic by abusing starry-eyed boy footballers, was beginning a two-year prison term last night.

The founder of Celtic Boys' Club sat in the dock, head bowed, as Sheriff Margaret Gimblett passed sentence.

She told him: "These children were football-mad with stars in their eyes, and perhaps hoping to kick their way to the stars.

"You knew that, and you betrayed that trust.

"You have brought anguish and distress on your victims and brought shame and dishonour to Celtic Boys' Club and indirectly to Celtic FC, one of the greatest clubs in Britain - some might say the greatest."

Millionaire businessman Torbett, 51, was exposed as a child molester by a series of award-winning Daily Record articles in August 1996.

For his victims, the prison sentence ended a near 30-year wait for justice.

One of them, former Scotland striker Alan Brazil, said: "I am grateful he is where he should be - behind bars. It has been a long time coming, but at last he has got his just desserts."

Another victim, cabbie David Gordon, 38, was at Glasgow Sheriff Court to see Torbett jailed.

He said: "I am glad he is a convicted paedophile.

"The sentence was unimportant. It is just a relief that after all these years he has been punished."

The third teenage star Torbett was convicted of abusing, James McGrory, said even a 10-year term, would not have ended his victims' pain.

Supermarket manager Mr McGrory, now 44, added: "I take no pleasure from the sentence. But it was appropriate, if only as a warning to other predators.

"Hopefully, adequate safeguards now exist within every club to ensure similar incidents never arise."

At his trial earlier this month, Torbett branded his victims liars and insisted he never touched any of them.

But he was convicted on three counts of shameless indecency and will be put on the register of sex offenders.

Torbett preyed on boys he coached after inviting them to his flat in Sighthill, Glasgow.

Mr Brazil, now a Sky Sports commentator, told the trial Torbett grabbed his hand and forced him to fondle him through his trousers.

He never returned to the flat, and was never sure if rebuffing Torbett had anything to do with Celtic FC refusing to sign him after he scored a record 62 goals that season.

Mr Gordon described one groping incident at the flat, and said he quit football for good after Torbett made an indecent suggestion to him during a second visit.

Mr McGrory said Torbett groped him while giving him lifts from training in his van. The abuse continued for two years, and he was molested in cinemas, cafes and the Sighthill flat.

Torbett also persuaded Mr McGrory to spend nights in bed with him, and masturbation took place.

Mr McGrory told his wife of the abuse after reading the Record's expose of Torbett. He phoned Celtic FC, who advised him to go to the police.

The other victims also broke years of silence to relive their ordeals.

Torbett abused another starlet, John McCluskey, now 38. But the court could not hear his case because the offences happened on a trip to Norway.

Mr McCluskey said: "He is at last paying for what he did to me and all the others.

"I feel free of the nightmares that have haunted me for so long."

Celtic chief executive Fergus McCann said: "It is a good thing for all concerned that this matter has been brought to a conclusion."

The club is reconsidering its links with Torbett's business, The Trophy Centre, which supplies gifts and memorabilia to Celtic FC. Former Celtic directors Jack McGinn and Kevin Kelly are on the board.

Trophy Centre staff were among the supporters who surrounded Torbett at his trial and again yesterday.

Many wrote letters on his behalf. Sheriff Gimblett said some of the pleas for mercy reduced her to tears.

She revealed the letters stopped her sending Torbett to the High Court, where a far longer sentence could have been imposed.

Torbett's counsel, William McVicar, said his client had a difficult childhood, blighted by alcoholism in the family and the break-up of his parents' marriage, but was now a changed man.

He pleaded with the sheriff not to jail Torbett, saying the offences were "at the lower end of the scale".

Mr McVicar said Torbett, of Kelvinside, Glasgow, had endured torment and become a recluse because of the Press interest in his case, adding: "He has already been punished considerably."

Sheriff Gimblett told Torbett: "You were a highly-respected figure and no doubt still are. But these offences are totally unacceptable, and the public demands that the courts acknowledge this.

"Things were different 25 years ago and young boys did not talk about sex. They thought they would be laughed at by their peers.

"You were in a position of trust. Parents entrusted you with their children.

"Such conduct can never be tolerated. There can be no hiding place for people who abuse children."

Tony McGuinness, who quit recently as Celtic Boys' Club chairman, said later: "This was a dreadful betrayal of trust and cast an unfair shadow over many good, diligent coaches."

Another ex-chairman, Hugh Birt, added: "Perhaps the children of Glasgow will be safe now."

Not so sure Tony McGuiness was correct in his assumption.

I'm starting to find all these old links again BB, they are bookmarked in various places on various devices. The thing is re-reading these old pieces is totally different now given what is known, all the parts are falling into place, there is a mountain of evidence out there.

Perhaps start trying to contact new york times & boston globes spotlight teams now and bring them into the picture an hope one of them nibbles ,after all, crimes were committed on US soil.

We really need the documentary. I remember watching the documentary about us and the ebts, with all the photographs and the string attaching to facts (like a police board). It is very simple but very effective and with all those involved in this heinous crime against children and the subsequent cover up, it's going to be a heck of a big board but will finally raise the awareness to the ordinary people in the street and surely to God there will then be no hiding place for these criminals at parkhead.

There aint enough string in the world to connect those scum....one rope round their necks would suffice

If you are a normal human being of course ;)

Spotlight is part of the Boston Globe I think GW.
Thank you for reaching out to us. The work of the Boston Globe's Spotlight Team depends heavily on tips and material from the public.

Please excuse the form letter you're getting here, but please know that we review each communication and every tip goes into a master file. We respond to some relatively quickly, and others may be referred to beat reporters who we think are better able to address the issue.

In the master database, we also look for patterns and often re-review tips if new information emerges.

Thank you again for your information. We could not do our work if we didn't have the eyes and ears of the public to help us.

Sincerely,

Patricia Wen
Editor, Spotlight Team

We really need the documentary. I remember watching the documentary about us and the ebts, with all the photographs and the string attaching to facts (like a police board). It is very simple but very effective and with all those involved in this heinous crime against children and the subsequent cover up, it's going to be a heck of a big board but will finally raise the awareness to the ordinary people in the street and surely to God there will then be no hiding place for these criminals at parkhead.
If the whole sorry mess had not been covered up in the first place , right there and then would have been the end of CBC because I am sure no parent would have let their son be part of any paedo ring if they had known the truth . There MUST have been complaints of some description from parents without naming names and there MUST have been apologies and payments made for silence to save the good name of the club etc., but I do think this must have been in the very early days but when Torbett came back in it seems like open season on the youngsters and God only knows how many victims there really was and how many lives have really been ruined by these animals . Anyone who knows for sure and is keeping quiet about it should really take a long hard think about how the innocent victims must have suffered and stand up and point the finger at those who know and are ignoring the victims and be the better person for doing so and be thankful for not being a victim yourself .
