Your all time Rangers 11 with a twist

a lot of folk's 'best ever' sides are ridiculously unbalanced. For example, Cooper and Laudrup wide of McCoist and Hateley with Gazza and Albertz in a midfield 2. I get why obviously, but try and pick a greatest Rangers team (from players you've seen) in a structured formation - a team you'd pick to go and play Barcelona in the Camp Nou say.

Goram

Moore
Weir
Gough
Numan

Ian Ferguson
Gazza
Van Bronckhorst

Laudrup
Hateley
De Boer.

I'd fancy that side to go anywhere and get a result.

I was having this very discussion with a mate at the weekend. Best Rangers 11 based on players we'd actually seen (he's 34, im 33)
Eventually we settled on

GK Goram

RB Stevens
LB Numan
CB Gough (captain)
CB Weir

MF Gascoigne
MF B. Ferguson
MF Laudrup

No.10 role De Boer

CF McCoist
CF Hately

Very attacking midfield, you need a sitter/ball winner in there.

I'm 34 and RB is always the toughest position to fill. Too young to have seen Stevens. Hutton was good but only for a short period, Porrini was past his best, Ricksen was better in midfield and Tav hasn't won anything. Tend to go for Reyna as he done alright there and was just an excellent footballer who could play anywhere.

It's because Walter just loved a CB at RB (and I've paid homage to the great man by doing the same).

Lot of people forgetting about Souness if you want to get a result anywhere he's your man.
I've only went for players I've seen in the flesh. If from all time, Cooper, Baxter, Souness and a few more would have probably been in there.

Defence and attack was quite straightforward. Harder to get a balance in midfield. Went for Greig as that's where he played when I first started going to games.

Have to say I considered Boyd for pure goal scoring, not overall play, because in a team with Gazza, Laudrup and de boer there’s going to be chances galore.

Players I have seen in the flesh my team would be

Goram

Gascoigne Souness/Greig Baxter

Cooper Johnstone/Mols Laudrup

OK I’ll play, based on players I’ve seen play for us, to take on Barca at the Camp Nou. A balanced team, I think.

I think we’d beat the Catalan feckers 4-0. And Messi would be begging to sign for the Gers.

Nearly put in Lovenkrands for pace. Would be on bench with Weir, Prso, Arveladze, McGregor, Naismith and Ricksen.

Hard team to beat
