How much would you sell Borna Barišić for?

Selling Borna now without an adequate replacement would have a massive effect on our title challenge. Borna brings an attacking balance to our side that cannot be understated, both he and Tav bring width to either wing, which was just not possible last season, we relied almost solely on Tav down the right.

Is there are replacement out there....well none that I can think of. It would be very difficult to find someone of Borna's undoubted ability as both a defender and attacker, I genuinely think he is as important, in a different way, as Alfie is.

Will be delighted when the window closes and our first team squad has remained intact.

His value to us at the moment is immeasurable.

We need to keep him until the summer, where he'll play with Croatia at the Euros, and then let's see where he is in terms of value.

It would be absolute madness to even think about it now.

If Arsenal are spending 25mill on average fullbacks just imagine what a top quality one is worth.
Would rather keep him for 55 and 56 anyway.

We ain't getting anywhere near £25m for Borna. Totally agree he is IMHO a better player than Tierney, and is first choice left back for a country miles ahead in FIFA rankings of this shite hope but I think £15m would be a decent sum. Just how the Scum managed to insist and receive £25m for Tierney will be one of the football mysteries of all time, especially when his "old age hips" issues were well known.

RomaPress – Roma’s January transfer market is heating up as the Giallorossi are ready to reinforce the squad.

With talks of a Leonardo Spinazzola-Matteo Politano swap with Inter picking-up, the Giallorossi are eyeing potential replacements for the former Atalanta fullback. One of names that Roma have been after for some time is Rangers left back Borna Barišić.

The Croatian is currently the favorite to replace Spinazzola — the Giallorossi are pushing to acquire the 27 year-old, who they believe can be the long-term replacement of Aleksandar Kolarov.

Very late this evening, RomaPress spoke briefly to the agent of the defender Ives Čakarun about the situation of his client.

“A move to Roma? There still isn’t anything concrete, but let’s see”, said Čakarun.

Despite the words of the agent, the Giallorossi are pressing to acquire the Croatian and hope to hold further talks tomorrow with the idea of having a deal in place in the coming days

Sniff, sniff this post.

What I would say is that with each passing day, the interest from Roma seems increasingly genuine and not some made up media pish. They really want our Borna.

I think the "not for sale at any price" rhetoric is admirable but unrealistic. If Roma do slap a 20 mil + bid on the table (which I'd hope would be our very minimum asking price in this window) then our board would have a hell of a call to make. A bid which more than doubles our biggest ever outgoing transfer fee, represents ten times what we paid for him and single handedly secures the operating budget for the next year at least? It would be mighty tempting from a business perspective, no doubt about it. And as good as BB is, left back is not traditionally seen as a position which makes or breaks your title challenge (although I absolutely appreciate what he brings to the team overall).

Theres also a lot that can happen between now and the summer. He doesn't sign an extension; loss of form / poor Euros; a bad injury (god forbid). Any or all of them could mean that we won't see that level of bid come in again, all of which the board will likely need to take into consideration and weigh up against the value in retaining him for our big title push.

I love the guy and hope Borna goes nowhere. I'm sure both the gaffer and BB himself feel the same. But as it stands, there is still a possibility that he goes in the next few weeks imo, depending on how serious Roma are in their pursuit.

It would have to be a properly ridiculous offer, £20million plus for me to want to accept it. We finally have a really good team who have all gelled and are playing the way the manager wants. Our only recent blip was a 2nd half collapse against the Sheep.

We keep our current form going and we win the league. Selling our best players massively risks that.

I doubt he would want yo go. He had a tough season last year but is now one of the fist names on the team sheet and the support are singing his name at every game. He has the chance to win a few medals in a few months time and will have a summer playing for his country without any negativity in his professional life.

This thread would have made very different reading about 5 months ago!

'I'll drive him there myself' etc.

Perhaps a lesson to be learned here in giving players more time to settle in future :))

The English Premier league clubs financially operate at a different level to Almost all other clubs, 25+mill transfers are middle of the road for them nowadays but we should certainly be looking for at least 20mill for the first choice Croatia fullback, but aye, I get where you're coming from mate.

People on here now wanting £25 to £30 million for a guy they would have walked back to Osijek only 5 month ago is crazy. I dont think we can sell him in January but if he has a good Euros and we win the league then anything around £12 to £15 million for a 28 year old we got for less than £2 million is good business

He’s a tremendous player but folk need to be realistic with his valuation, 30 mill and upwards is fantasy for someone who is 28 this year and playing in Scotland.

If he continues to excel and has a good euros we could maybe look for 12-15 mill then.

25+ this month & it would be hard to knock back but I wouldn’t be selling any players until the summer.

Football wise it would crazy for Borna to leave now as it took him 1 year & bit to settle in Scotland & who’s to say it won’t take as long in Seria A. Euros only a few short months away...stay & fight for 55 then go & be first choice left back for Croatia in summer.

As a previous posters mentioned...it’s either the skum press trying to unsettle us or his agent trying to make a few extra pound on a transfer or new contract, or maybe both.

BB is so important for us now, just look at his performance at the Piggery.

Ps I don’t understand why we can’t ask for 20+ million in the summer for Croatian full international full back that is a dead ball specialist.

You would think.........but in typical FF fashion our next signing will get 30 minutes off the bench on his debut to prove he is amazing or he will be classed as crap, Ross Wilson a fud for signing him, Tav a crap captain for not showing him enough leadership and Stewart Robertson will also somehow be dragged into it.

A full back who is as excellent going forward as he is as defending is priceless these days. It would take a ridiculous amount of money for the board to sell in January.

He'll be here till after the Euros, leave a league winner

There’s a potential CL bounty sitting on his head and a long awaited league winners flag on top of his value. I know Roma don’t care about that and it won’t go into their evaluation, but it most certainly should go into ours. If it ends up being the difference to us winning the league, that’s potentially a huge amount to Rangers, financially and also from a fans point of view.

Not for sale is my opinion.

According to reports in Italy, Rangers have set their asking price at £10million for Barasic.

As much as I would love to see him stay an £8million profit is good business as long as we have someone lined up to take his place.

I reckon we will see Barasic leave this window

Thankfully in the management team and DOF we now have people in charge at the football level that know our players worth even if many on here love to undervalue as much as any ex Celtic player in the press.
Croatian LB.Numerous assists in EL and SPFL and at 27 coming into his peak years.Bidding should be starting at 20.

Cant see us selling him just now not with the league as close as it is.

If there is interest makes more sense cash in on him in summer

I said the other day £25 million but even being conservative we shouldn’t be considering anything lower than £15m (starting price)

I would be extremely disappointed if we were asking £10m for Croatia’s number 1 left back.
Hopefully just paper talk.

The Croatian left back moved last season for under £2 million...to us. If he leaves in the summer , 12-15 is realistic for a 27 year old full back

Daft to sell him now when his peak value will be after the Euros all going well.

That’s not even considering replacing his output in the short term which we would have to go out to the market to replace.

£10m is far too low even in the summer market. If we’re asking for £10m in the January window when the selling club has all the power then it’s very disappointing.

However Roma news website LaRoma24 is reporting that a deal for Barisic is unlikely this month.

They state that Rangers are looking for a fee in excess of €10m (£8.6m) which Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi considers to be too expensive.

He is integral to the way we play. We are pushing for a title. That title could lead to a £30 million CL jackpot. Barisic will not go down in value between now and the summer.

All of that is true and self evident.

All of that means that any fee must reflect the diminishing effect on the cl chance we would see if he left mid season. In the summer we could have £30 million incoming AND whatever he is worth.

That all being fact, his fee now must increase significantly. IE, if we value him at £10 million, we need to be looking at covering a third, at least, of the CL money on top.
