5 potential Rangers transfer targets as Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson plan Ibrox rejuvenation

We should be looking to build a Scottish base of players like Walters second year. Halkett, McKenna, Lewis Ferguson, Shankland and Dykes will all have a positive impact on this squad. I'm sure they won't be fancy enough for some but I'd rather these players than some of the weaklings we have at the moment.
McKenna is brutal. He can’t jump which is not a good thing for a centre half!

Jesus Christ. Standards really are at an all time low just now, not one improves our first XI.

Hello is that the daily record this is Ross Wilson here. So Stevie G and I were just sitting discussing the players that we`re after for next season so have you got a pen there to write these names down. Is that how it works?

Who were broadfoot, Thomson, whittaker, naismith before they signed for us?

We need players who can play in this shite league we inhabit. Clearly a lot of our squad can't do that.
Thompson was part of a good Hibs side in the middle of the park, Naismith was a standout young talent (like Turnbull) and Whittaker was also a standout player in a good hibs team. I’ll give you broadfoot but say we sign an equivalent of him just now, we don’t move forwards, we stagnate. Your argument is also a bit flawed because the quality of the league outside us and them was much better back then, only players from SPFL who improves the first XI is a fully fit David Turnbull and a fully fit John Souttard and Lyndon Dykes probably improve the squad. That’s it

What am I reading.

Mancbear, do us all a favour and hop on FM and pluck us some names from there instead. This post is absolutely mortifying to think about. I'd rather hear about you signing Messi on FM and wanting it done irl than read that post again. %^*& me

That whole article can be summed up by the line-
“Admittedly, Rangers don't particularly need another defensive minded midfielder but if they did want one”.

Just had a pal text me about our summer targets (that list)
Unfortunately some people believe what they read on the internet is fact.
unfortunately we all have friends that are complete bangers

Here's 5 players they could look to sign in the summer.

Freddie Woodman (GK - Newcastle United)

The former Kilmarnock and Aberdeen loanee has spent the last few months on loan at Swansea and might fancy finally setting down roots. He's been highly-rated since he was a teenager but for one reason or another has never been given a real opportunity at Newcastle. The 23-year-old still has a year left on his deal at St James' Park and they might not fancy letting him go, and we all know the history between Rangers and Mike Ashley.

At such a young age, he suits the style of buying young and looking to make profit in a few years and that's what Rangers need to do in the current climate. McGregor might be the undisputed No. 1 at Ibrox right now, but at 37 Rangers need to start planning for the future. The former Scotland goalkeeper has let a few errors creep into his game since the new year and could be criticised for goals against Hearts, Hibs and St Johnstone so perhaps it's time for Gerrard and co. to bring in someone new to put the pressure back on.

Potential fee: £2.5m

Rick van Drongelen (CB - Hamburg)
The Dutch centre back moved to Hamburg for a fee of €3m in 2017 so might cost a bit of money. The 21-year-old has played more than 100 times during his short career so has plenty of experience. Having started out with Sparta Rotterdam, he quickly progressed and moved to the Bundesliga with Hamburg. Relegation followed in his first season where he played 18 times and has been a regular at the heart of the HSV defence since.

He won't want to stay in the second tier of German football for much longer though and if Rangers moved quickly then they could snap him up. He has two years left on his contract and you'd think Hamburg will be looking for slightly more than they paid for him.

His stats suggest he might be worth it though as he looks solid defensively and is good on the ball. He completes 87.9 per cent of all passes and wins almost 60 per cent of all his duels. His positioning is clearly good too as he averages 5.14 interceptions per game. That’s similar to all four of Rangers current centre backs.
He's been capped by Holland up until 19 level, possesses a lot of pace and at 6ft 2in, won't be spooked by the aerial bombardment he would face in the Premiership.

Potential fee: £4m

Viktor Fischer (Winger - Copenhagen)
Rangers are likely to be looking for more new options in the final third and someone who can play wide or in the No. 10 position is Fischer. The Copenhagen star missed the games against Celtic through injury and has had a mixed career up until this point. Having come through at Ajax, he looked like being a superstar in years to come but an ill-advised moved to Middlesbrough set his career way off track.

The 25-year-old flopped in England and after a similar poor spell with Mainz, returned to his homeland in 2018. Since then he has shown his quality and has six goals and eight assists this season. Often playing off the left hand side this season, Fischer can also be found behind the striker and on the right.

He could be quite similar to Hagi in that he likes to get the ball in tight areas and work his way out of problems but he looks to have a bit more pace than the Romanian.

Fischer would have something to prove in the UK after his Middlesbrough flop, and he could even have it in his head to try win a move back to the English Premier League and Rangers could offer him a springboard.

Potential fee: £5m

Nikola Moro (CM - Dinamo Zagreb)
Admittedly, Rangers don't particularly need another defensive minded midfielder but if they did want one then perhaps Nikola Moro could be a real option for Gerrard. The Croatian currently plays for Dinamo Zagreb and everyone is aware of how much Rangers enjoy looking in this area for players. Moro has been linked with moves to big clubs such as AC Milan in the past but a knee injury has left him unable to secure a move away from Croatia.

He's still played a lot of games in his career so far with the Croatia U21 cap having played more than 100 times for Zagreb’s first team as well as being a regular in the B team prior to that.

He’s picked up 14 caps for Croatia at U21 level and is perhaps more in the Ryan Jack mould than Steven Davis.

Strong in the tackle and quick across the ground, he is perhaps technically better than Jack and although it would be unlikely Rangers could get him if he hadn't had his injury problems, that could lead him to being the perfect signing. He's young enough to get over any knee issues and would allow Rangers to try and sell on in a few years if he fulfills his potential.

Potential fee: £3m

Mohamed Buya Turay (ST - Sint Truiden, on loan at Djurgardens)
Many people expect Alfredo Morelos to leave in the summer and he could have played his last game for Rangers. If that's the case, then Rangers definitely need to strengthen their attack. They have Jermain Defoe there and Florian Kamberi could turn his loan move permanent but an out-and-out centre forward is needed if Morelos goes.

Step up Mohamed Buya Turay. The Sierra Leone international is currently contracted to Belgian side Sint-Truiden but spent the last year on loan at Swedish side Djurgardens.
His goal record in Scandinavia is excellent and he scored 15 goals in 29 Swedish top flight games in 2019.

For whatever reason that it hasn't worked out in Belgium, many of his goals come from him just being in the right place at the right time and at 25, he should be approaching the best years of his career.

Largely scoring with his right foot, his movement to get into the box is good and he has an obvious bit of pace which would come in handy for Rangers at times, particularly in Europe. He doesn't provide the same physical threat that Morelos does, but very few players who would be available this summer would.

He's versatile too and has played wide for Djurgardens this season, at one point even filling a role as left wing-back.

Potential fee: £1m

Fwiw some of the fees quoted I reckon are miles off but something to talk about amidst the recent crisis

Does that really pass for journalism with these fucking retards and actually make it into their rag? No wonder their industry is down the shitter.

No fitba, let's write some pish

IMO - there was more than enough 'quality' in the current Rangers team to have won the league handily. What they lacked was guts, heart, and a will-to-win spirit. These are among the qualities that it takes to succeed in the SPL. Unless Gerrard starts to take these attributes into strong account when considering new signing options, I fear we'll end up once again throwing money down a sinkhole

"Admittedly, Rangers don't particularly need another defensive minded midfielder but if they did want one then perhaps... ". So, basically, what you're saying is that you're just making this "story" up? Thanks for clarifying that.

If we are looking at Woodman it won't be for this summer, it will be for next summer when his contract expires and McGregor likely retires. He'd be 24 at that time, still young for a keeper (24 for a keeper is like 21 for an outfield player) and wouldn't cost us a development fee (23 is the cut off)

Just as a principle I can’t see many clubs spending any time soon until there’s more clarity when we might get back to playing football.

Based on our cards close to our chest policy when signing players under Gerrard, I am filing this article under idle speculation.

This is probably all nonsense, but the striker from Djurgardens is a player. My little brother lives in Stockholm and goes to watch Djurgardens. He raves about the guy.

The only one I would take out that list is Dykes. McKenna and halkett absolutely no chance, dross.

I suggested him when Djurgardens won the title I assumed as a they were surprising title winners they must have some talent we could take at a good price

Why would we need a new keeper when McCrorie is ours?

This. I reckon McGregor will give us another year, McCrorie will spend another season on loan in the Premiership and then will look to come in and be number 1. Assuming McGregor then retires or takes a step back.

That Scumbag Rhag never did us any favours previously, why would they be finding players for us now.? They can't conjure up any bad news so conjure up bollocks instead.

Thanks to op for not linking them.

There’s a reluctance from McGregor to come off his line in games this season

Still a smashing shot stopper.I‘ve not seen any of Mcrorie so don’t know if he ready or not

Mohamed Buya Turay (ST - Sint Truiden, on loan at Djurgardens)

... looks like he hasn`t featured at St. Truiden whatsoever this season ...

made up nonsense from the Rebel

I haven't read the article, just what's been posted here, and I'm not defending them but did they actually claim these were targets or have they just identified players that might be of interest to us?
No, apparently the Daily Record are doing scouting on our behalf now. Weird.
