a good story but not true. Germany played Turkey, Austria and Switzerland all before they played Republic of Ireland. They wear green because it’s the colours of the ***, which was made green and white because of how a football pitch looks

For balance, the Republic contravined their neutrality status by allowing the Allies to use the Donegal Corrider to fly over the Republic straight out into the Atlantic and agreed to allow the RAF to have a base in the South in the event of a German invasion.
