He took a swig from a can of lager thrown on to pitch, was that against us?
Even though i was only in my teens, i remember thinking at the time that it was a strange move for him. He was undoubtedly finished as a player but thought he would have gone to an English club
Apparently the board thought about but after Baxter decided not lolI didn’t know he was offered to us first but we refused.
I was there mate, we then sang Georgie Best's a member of the Ulster Volunteers....He took a swig from a can of lager thrown on to pitch, was that against us?
IIRC Saints lost 0-1 & Best set up the winner?I was at the game at love Street shown in the first post. love street was mobbed. Angie Best was in the main stand just above us.

We used to take thousands to Easter Road back in the day. Walking back to the buses was a great sight, a sea of thousands of bears. Loved going there. That was some size of a crowd, I wonder what the capacity of Easter Road was at that time.
Yep...was at that game. The Belfast Boy.I was at the game at love Street shown in the first post. love street was mobbed. Angie Best was in the main stand just above us.
Bill McMurdo was his agent so it is possibleI didn’t know he was offered to us first but we refused.
I was there, a testimonial for Ronnie McKinnon’s brother Donnie. My old man says he saw him play for Man Utd in a Patrick Thistle testimonial early 70's. Before Hibs presumably.
It was McEwans Export mate,
No but was in the corner where it was thrown, it was basically passed to. Best from someone at the frontDid you throw it?
Grew up in East Belfast at the same time as Alex Higgins and van morrison... Some talent among those 3
Correct. Best was from Creagh. Van was from Bloomfield. Higgins was South Belfast. All of them hated the scum. Allegedly. You’re correct about Best and Vsn Morrison but I believe Higgins was reared in the Sandy Row/Donegall Road area.
I stand corrected bud. Do you think they ever met up for a wee swally.. A game of snooker.. A game of 3 byes.. And finally a wee singsongYou’re correct about Best and Vsn Morrison but I believe Higgins was reared in the Sandy Row/Donegall Road area.
Bests father, Dickie was a massive bluenose.Correct. Best was from Creagh. Van was from Bloomfield. Higgins was South Belfast. All of them hated the scum. Allegedly.
Snap!! I had been to my 1st ever works night out on the Friday (I was 17) & spent most of the game spewing up at the back of the terracing, seen about 15 mins of the game if I was lucky. Those were the days!!I think I was at this game. The problem I have is I’m not really sure, possibly because there was a group of us that went to all the games then and being underage we were all ever so slightly tipsy having partaken of Carlsberg Special Brew. Classier times.
God I am getting old I was at Love Street as wellYep...was at that game. The Belfast Boy.
Probably in the Rangers club up the Shankill.I stand corrected bud. Do you think they ever met up for a wee swally.. A game of snooker.. A game of 3 byes.. And finally a wee singsong
Agent Orange was his nickname.Bill McMurdo was his agent so it is possible
At a gentleman’s evening my Dad asked George why he never played for the Rangers - he replied we never asked him.Agent Orange was his nickname.
