Even now I can remember the massive poster i had of Maradona on my wall when I was a small boy. So obviously he's the best player I've ever seen. Saying that his flaws shouldn't be diminished but they shouldn't tarnish the brilliance of the boy from the barrio.

I think it was apparent the only place he was himself was on the field. I know that sounds like a cliche. But watching the documentaries and reading about Maradona, it certainly seems the case. He talks of the two personas, the private and the public and how the latter overwhelmed him. The pitch game him an escape.

Photo from my last visit to La Bombonera. Around the stadium are little stores, bars, parillas - all with murals. Naturally Maradona features a lot.
