Nigeria boss wants Rangers pair to experience 'crazy' Lagos as he lays out 'security escort' plans

He told Europe 1 : "The traffic in Lagos is terrible, but we are promised an escort between our hotel and the stadium, or even to close the road to allow us to avoid traffic jams

"The other day, I took an hour to make the trip. It's a bit much before a game. It will probably be in an empty stadium. Teams are working on the lawn. I inspected it all.

“The idea of playing in Lagos is good for the players. Some do not know this city at all, this is the case of Leon Balogun, Aribo or others, who were born in Europe.

“They will discover this crazy city, with 19 million inhabitants. It is important that we have security, escorts to move around and a good lawn to play. We are working on all these aspects."

He added: “We know that a lot of work is done, that the lawn is watered every day and that machines have been ordered to mow the grass well.

“As for hotels, there is no problem, there are a lot of them in Lagos. We will have the "fitness" at the hotel, which we did not have on the previous day in Benin City.

“We will be very close to Benin. We risk making the trip to Cotonou, where we play our match of the 5th day on March 27, by boat, because the road is not good and the crossing only lasts two hours.”

The idea of half our squad disappearing all over the world just now while we still have important games in Europe potentially gives me the absolute fear.

Are footballers banned from going to red list countries or is there another silly exemption?

There are a lot of countries that don't do any covid genome sequencing, so we don't actually know if there are any mutations there, countries who don't do genome sequencing should all be on the red list.

The UK does something like half of the world's covid genome sequencing, we keep finding the mutations because we are looking for it the most.

Our players were vaccinated back in December with the Oxford jab , just don’t tell anyone it’s a secret.:shh:
As for players going to Nigeria , I really hope not. I would think all African countries would be on the red list and there really should not be exceptions on travel, same as games in Europe being moved around countries.

Why is he starting to sound like he’s planning it like Shaun Of The Dead?

Take the car
Avoid certain death
Security escorts you about
Avoid muggings
Perform “fitness”
Play on the “perfectly mowed lawn”
Don’t get shot

Mental when you consider the value of some of these players bouncing about in these environments, guys like Drogba who in todays market would be a >100 million player

Was there just before Lockdown, mental traffic and some sights to see. Will no doubt be back there when everything settles down but if I am honest I won’t be rushing back that’s for sure. There has been a fair bit of unrest as well of late.

I'm currently in Nigeria and was in Lagos few, weeks ago. Nigeria not on red list and the hotels like radisson have good covid measures in place. Not somewhere you'd come on holiday but not as bad as people think.
