1940 - Rangers 1 (J.Smith) Dundee United 0 - Emergency War Cup Final (Played at Hampden Park) (90,000)
The outbreak of the Second World War the previous September had caused the immediate abandonment of normal League and cup football, and after a brief break and intense discussions, regional League football became the order of the day. As far as cup competitions were concerned, the SFA introduced the Emergency War Cup, with the opening two rounds played over two legs. Rangers had made the final in the only year the competition was held after defeating Alloa, Falkirk, St.Mirren and Motherwell. The final against Dundee United at Hampden Park attracted a crowd of 90,000 (at the outbreak of the war such crowds had been prohibited by the authorities, wary of allowing such a gathering when war was being waged, but with the threat of German invasion having receded, the limits were raised) who saw Jimmy Smith score the only goal of the game to win the cup for Rangers. Although this was the only time that the competition was held, it was not to be the last time the trophy itself found it's way into the Ibrox boardroom.
1946 - Airdrieonians 0 Rangers 4 (Waddell 2,J.Smith,Thornton) - Victory Cup 2nd Round (21,000)

(Morrison, Baird) Clyde 0 - Glasgow Merchants' Charity Cup Semi-Final (35,000)
1963 - Rangers 1 (Brand) Celtic 1 - Scottish Cup Final (Played at Hampden Park) (129,643)
This was the first time since 1928 that both Rangers and Celtic had battled through to the Scottish Cup final, a fact that was sufficient to draw a crowd of 129,643 to Hampden Park. The first clash was hardly a classic
1966 - Rangers 4 (G.McLean 2, Millar, Wilson) Clyde 0 - Scottish League Division One (12,000)
1976 - Rangers 0 Dundee United 0 - Scottish Premier Division (50,000)
1983 - Dundee 2 Rangers 1 (Clark) - Scottish Premier Division (4,788)
1985 - Dundee United 2 Rangers 1 (McCoist) - Scottish Premier Division (10,251)
1991 - Motherwell 3 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier Division (17,572)
1993 - Partick Thidtle 3 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier Division (9,834)
1996 - Kilmarnock 0 Rangers 3 (Durie 2,McCoist) - Scottish Premier Division (17,056)
2002 - Rangers 3 (Lovenkrands 2,Ferguson) Celtic 2 - Scottish Cup Final (Played at Hampden Park) (51,158)
Peter Lovenkrands, summoned from the Ibrox shadows when Alex McLeish took over in December, has repaid the manager in spades whenever Rangers have met Celtic since then. He hauled Rangers back into contention when they fell behind against the run of play in the first half, and, with scarcely more than 10 seconds of injury time left to play, he strained to reach Neil McCann's swirling cross and bounced the match winning header past Rab Douglas.
2003 - Dundee 2 Rangers 2 (Wilkie OG, Arteta Pen) - Scottish Premier League (9,204)
2008 - Hibernian 0 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier League (16,872)
2010 - Celtic 2 Rangers 1 (Miller) - Scottish Premier League (58,000)
2013 - Rangers 1 (Aird) Berwick Rangers 0 - Scottish Football League Division 3 (50,048)
2018 - Rangers announce Steven Gerrard as Manager. The Ex Liverpool captain signed a four year deal and confirmed that Gary McAllister would be coming in as his assistant

2003 - Dundee 2 Rangers 2 (Wilkie OG, Arteta Pen) - Scottish Premier League (9,204)

Ferguson was a zero after that day lol

2002 will always be one of our most famous and well remembered Cup final wins. Iconic last minute goal, and a celebration in the stands that was absolutely insane.

1940 not quite as famous. Here's a film of it.

Great to see a video of that game, that crowd, and that Trophy that is often overlooked.
A front five of
Willie Waddell, Willie Thornton, Jimmy Smith, Alex Venters, and Adam Little.

Here is one for you though.
A guy by the name of Ian McPherson having made only 2 appearances (0 goals) all season, was drafted into the team for the last 10 League Games that season, between April 17th and June 1st, and scored an impressive 11 Goals in those 10 Games, but took no part in the Emergency Cup Final (which was sandwiched by McPherson scoring 6 Goals in 3 Games) .
He played Inside Right in 7 of them, and Outside Right in 3 of them.
He would go on to score 4 Goals in 4 Games the following season, and that was it, McPherson left Rangers to serve in the RAF and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944 and 1945.
After the War, he joined Arsenal, and would go on to win a League Championship winners medal with Arsenal in 1947-48.

Wrote a wee article about him last year Mo, his wartime service is even more impressive than his football career.

I should have known better, that you would have already covered such an impressive man.

I missed that at the time, and just read it now, another excellent bio from your good self.

It was also the only time in the the two seasons 1962-64 that the filth were not defeated in 9 Games.
We won the other 8 games 1-0, 4-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 2-1, 1-0, 2-0 in that 18 month period.

91 - A horrible game and Motherwell's late third put Aberdeen on top needing only a draw at Ibrox to win the League, Walters ballooned a penalty that day as well
