Do you ever think of some strange or odd rules you could change in football?

Play the game with an oval ball. No, not rugby/ AFL.

Still the same rules (only goalies handle the ball etc) but with an oval ball instead of a round ball.

Just think it would be a bit of a laugh tbh. B-D

When a player is injured and has to go off for treatment, the opponent is shown a yellow card.
The opponent who comitted the foul and recieved the card should leave the pitch and return when the other team puts on the 11th player.
Whu should the player team that offended gain an advantage of having 11 on the pitch?

When ball goes over the by/shy line, it is only deemed out of play if a player touches it or it touches the ground. You could then bend the ball round opposition players without conceding a shy. Imagine the terror in defenders when you bend a corner and it swings into box from behind the goals.

I've always thought rugby and AFL would be far better sports with a round ball.

Yep. Ending the match will be a struggle.

Will either stop bang on time which is a bit pish if you’re on the attack, or itll will be the next time play stops, so the winning team will either kick the ball out or foul.

Just do it that it ends when the ball goes out of play. If a team is on the attack, the onus is on the defending team to stop the attack and put it out of play, and the onus is on the attacking team to keep the ball inplay and try to score. If the defending team fouls, the game continues.

Team mates are allowed to sit on other team mates shoulders in the Wall at Free Kicks. Be interesting to see Ronaldo and his ilk get the ball over that.

Goal kicks taken from the side of the goal where the ball goes out. And bring back tackle from behind and any other hard tackle where the ball is played first. More old style blood and guts.

2 fouls is a yellow, 4 is a red. To stop cynical fouls that stop the opposition attacking.

Serious foul play can still get you a card for your first foul.

Sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a specialist kicker like in American Football that could roll on and off.

Imagine wheeling out a 45 year old Albertz for a FK in the last minute of an OF game.

Any wrong calls by the refs should result in a small charge of electricity sent to there goolies.
Just too see clancy at the end of the match with a black face and hair pointing north would be priceless B-D

Play a season with a bobbling rugby ball. Hardly any more disruptive to good play than a dodgy plastic pitch.

Pet hate of mine is the hammer throwing centre forwards of murderwell and Abergreen fame who commit 7 or more fouls per game but never get booked. An automatic yellow card for 5 fouls followed by a sin bin period for each subsequent offence
Whilst I am on a roll the linesman/AR gets a wee canister of white marker and he indicates where the throw in has to be taken from.Any movement beyond the line thrown in automatically reverts to the opposition
Both doable

Instead of a penalty shoot out you need to do a game of red arse. First man to skelp the managers arse with a mitre baw wins.

Imagine Messi losing the CL final because he couldn't hit Koemans arse with a mitre baw.

**Only size 5 mitre baws are accepted.

Make the corner quadrant radius bigger, something like 3m, but the rule still stands that you can't be offside from a corner kick.
Make it that if the ball is played directly into the 18 yard box from a corner, offside is suspended until the ball leaves the 18 yard box again
Put 2 lines either side of the half way line say 15 yards, you can't be offside if the ball is played from your own half between that line and your goal line. Hopefully would stretch the game a bit without encouraging hanging about in the opposition box.

I used to think about "Orange Cards"... where the player has to be sin binned for 20 minutes or something.

No idea how you would enforce it. And maybe people would take advantage of it if tired, instead of being subbed.

Maybe it could only be enforced in first half.

For challenges that are in between yellow and red. Or automatic orange for clear diving.

This was during one of my many lucid thoughts when I was pumping tramadol into myself.

"Any man save" / "backie"

Great memories in the local park when the ball was launched and realising no-one had stayed back. Panic and bedlam trying to get back before the other team.

WATP

The player that commits a foul and injures the other player, has to go off until the injured guy comes back on, or gets subbed if the injured guy needs subbed.
I have never got why the fouling team gets to play on with 11 men, whilst the injured team have to play with 10.
Would that not just lead to a team wiping out a player who causes a major threat? Say a striker wiped out Ryan Kent, yes they would both be off the park but the defending team still has the advantage there to regroup with less threat of a counter attack?

This falling over in the box with the slightest touch needs kicked out of the game. Players should be banned for year long bans if they don’t attempt to actually play the game and score a goal rather than just fall down.

Will ruin the game. Players will just goal hang and wait for a long punt up the park.

Both teams? Sounds like the game would be "stretched" just like it is now when games are nearly over and players are getting tired. That's when commentators and fans get excited. Sounds good to me.

Shouldn’t have to wait on the referees whistle at free kicks. The benefit of the free kick is suppose to be for the team awarded the free kick, they should be allowed to take it as quickly as they want. I feel the team conceding the free kick actually gets the benefit as they’re allowed time to set their wall up, position their players and get the keeper in the best possible position to stop a goal bound shot.

Another is putting a time limit on dead ball plays to stop time wasting and or benefitting the conceding team.

The captains and the players directly involved in an incident should be the only players able to speak to the referee regarding that incident.

Bigger goals. The average size of players now is much bigger, add 6 inches to the height and a foot to the width.
I agree with opening up the goals but you would need 2 keepers to guard that area a two inch widening and height would make a difference

No draws or a bigger gap between points for a win and what you get for a draw maybe 5 points for the win and 1 for the draw!! Anything that encourages attacking football or stops teams playing so negatively!! Extra points for goals too?
Anything you can come up with can be turned into a negative.
Using your example, if the ”wee” team were to score first?

For the same reason, add ten percent to the pitch dimensions.
Yip, even Tynecastle, which wouldn’t be alone.

There should be a better way of dealing with time wasting and added time. Like when a team comes to Ibrox, wastes time for most of the game but they get the benefit of the added time if we've scored.
I’ve often said this and been shot down because we do likewise when seeing out the game.
I’d still make multi ball use imperative and make it ten seconds to take a throw and twenty for a goal kick.

They experimented years ago, think might have been Dryburgh Cup where they extended the 18 yard line out to the touchline and you could only be offside within that area. Didn't last long.
Was good though.
Watching the Rangers striker, Parlane, push right onto the line as soon as the game kicked off.

If the game goes to penalties it should be taken from the half way line and you get 15 seconds to try and score with as many touches as you like instead of one free hit from 12 yards.

Everytime Celtic fans are in Ibrox we should build a barrier so they cant see the game.
Like these two.
