In relation to the statement released by UEFA on the 7th May in respect of the Super League and the position taken by 9 of its founding clubs, Fútbol Club Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid Club de Fútbol state the following:
(i) The founding clubs have suffered, and continue to suffer, unacceptable third-party pressures, threats, and offenses to abandon the project and therefore desist from their right and duty to provide solutions to the football ecosystem via concrete proposals and constructive dialogue. This is intolerable under the rule of law and Tribunals have already ruled in favour of the Super League proposal, ordering FIFA and UEFA to, either directly or through their affiliated bodies, refrain from taking any action which may hinder this initiative in any way while court proceedings are pending.
(ii) The Super League project was designed jointly by its 12 founding clubs:
a) with the aim of providing solutions to the current unsustainable situation in the football industry. The 12 founding clubs shared the same concerns -as other stakeholders in European football do-, particularly under the current socio-economic context, that structural reforms are indispensable to ensure our sport stays appealing and survives in the long-term. To that effect, on 18th April, they announced their willingness to create the Super League and establish a channel of communication with UEFA and FIFA, in a constructive spirit of collaboration between the parties, as it was so notified to each of them on such date;
b) with the utmost respect for the current football structures and ecosystem. The founding clubs expressly agreed that the Super League would only take place if such a competition was recognised by UEFA and/or FIFA or if, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, it was deemed to be a competition duly compatible for all purposes with the continuity of the founding clubs in their respective domestic competitions. However, despite being aware of the above terms, UEFA and FIFA have so far refused to establish any adequate channel of communication; and
c) to bring financial stability to the entire European football family, currently under the effects of a deep crisis that threatens the survival of many clubs. Testament of it, the announced commitment to establish annual solidarity payments for guaranteed annual amounts that materially multiply those distributed by UEFA, and the obligation to reinforce financial sustainability rules, through the creation of a clear, transparent and effective control system verified by experts.
(iii) The 12 founding clubs also acknowledged that the Super League was a unique opportunity to offer fans around the world the best possible show and to reinforce global interest in the sport, which is not a “given” and is challenged by new generational trends. Moreover, one of its main objectives was to promote women's football on a global level, a tremendous, but currently underestimated, opportunity for the sector.
(iv) We are fully aware of the diversity of reactions to the Super League initiative and, consequently, of the need to reflect on the reasons for some of them. We are ready to reconsider the proposed approach, as necessary. However, we would be highly irresponsible if, being aware of the needs and systemic crisis in the football sector, which led us to announce the Super League, we abandoned such mission to provide effective and sustainable answers to the existential questions that threaten the football industry.
(v) We regret to see that our friends and founding partners of the Super League project have now found themselves in such inconsistent and contradictory position when signing a number of commitments to UEFA yesterday. However, given that the material issues that led the 12 founding clubs to announce the Super League weeks ago have not gone away, we reiterate that, to honour our history, to comply with our obligations towards our stakeholders and fans, for the good of football and for the financial sustainability of the sector, we have the duty to act in a responsible manner and persevere in the pursuit of adequate solutions, despite the unacceptable and ongoing pressures and threats received from UEFA.
(vi) Mostly, we reiterate to FIFA, UEFA and all football stakeholders, as we have done on several occasions since the announcement of the Super League, our commitment and firm will to discuss, with respect and without intolerable pressure and in accordance with the rule of law, the most appropriate solutions for the sustainability of the whole football family.

I enjoy their attempt to make it about the "greater good" but I don't think they are fooling anyone. Embarrassing.

They are just after more money to dig themselves out of their self made financial holes. Kick the b astards down to their lowest tier and make them fight their way back up.

If they are that perturbed by the reactions, then they can resign from their respective F.A's and set themselves up....no way back.

They just dont get it. They’ve spent years of overspending, managing to find ways of reducing or hiding the debt, but eventually the sources of income have dried up and they are in big trouble financially especially due to Covid.

UEFA need to get tough with them now and suspend them. Many other clubs are in trouble financially due to Covid but they’ve no way out of it other than trying to increase their income, whilst managing costs. Why the hell should ESL clubs get any other special advantage over other clubs.

This isn’t just about greed but this statement screams out that they are in serious financial shit and need bailed out rapid style. These three clubs especially have got debts that are off the scale and now can’t face up to reality. Hell mend them.

If they are that worried about the sustainability of football they could stop paying ridiculous wages and transfer fees. What’s to stop the richest teams reaching an agreement as is?

They are clearly in deep shoite and don’t have any way of losing their debts. City, Chelski and Liverpool know they are on ok ground.
Spurs and Arsenal too. Utd, not sure

When Real Madrid and Barcelona got to the end of their financial year and were at that point say £500m in debt (both clubs currently around £1bn) didn’t someone say - ‘right lads, what are we doing about this..’

They are money making machines, like everyone else, they can cut their cloth accordingly.

Barca and RM have been pandered to by the Spanish state for years they have become like spoiled children who always have someone else to clean up the mess they have made. Well they are fücked now unless some oligarch or oil country steps in to buy them. I would love Eufa to ban all 12 , even if the governing body are corrupt as well.

Piss poor punishment

Total of £13.4m plus 5% on next season European earnings.

Nine of the original European Super League clubs, including the Premier League's 'big six', have been given a financial punishment by Uefa.

The nine - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, plus AC Milan, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid - have also committed to the European governing body and its competitions.
However, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are set to face "appropriate action" under Uefa's disciplinary process.

The trio have refused to renounce the breakaway league.

The ESL was announced on 18 April but within 48 hours the plans had fallen apart with the English clubs withdrawing after fan protests and UK government pressure.

The nine clubs have agreed to make a combined 15m euros (£13.4m) goodwill contribution to benefit children's and grassroots football across Europe.

They will also have 5% of Uefa competition revenues withheld for one season, starting in 2023-24, and this money will be redistributed, including in the UK.

Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer will pay his club's portion of the goodwill contribution and the competition revenue, which will not come out of club funds.

Arsenal's owners, Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, are committed to meeting all costs incurred by the ESL while a Tottenham statement said: "Any fines will be the responsibility of the owners."

The nine clubs face fines of 100m euros (£86.9m) each if they seek to join an unauthorised competition in the future, and a fine of half that if they breach any other terms of the declaration, Uefa said in a statement.

They will also rejoin the influential lobbying group the European Club Association.

Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: "I said at the Uefa congress two weeks ago that it takes a strong organisation to admit making a mistake, especially in these days of trial by social media. These clubs have done just that.

"In accepting their commitments and willingness to repair the disruption they caused, Uefa wants to put this chapter behind it and move forward in a positive spirit.

"These clubs recognised their mistakes quickly and have taken action to demonstrate their contrition and future commitment to European football.

"The same cannot be said for the clubs that remain involved in the so-called Super League and Uefa will deal with those clubs subsequently."

The “ecosystem” is all of their own making!!

Greed, absolute greed and they should be ashamed of themselves!!

They pay their players €millions per month, per player!! Start with that!!
No wonder they're all for it,massively in debt and deserve all they get,no wonder paying those sort of wages, without any fans coming through the turnstiles, crazy. UEFA won't kick them out just as corrupt.

"The football industry" - there's your problem summed up in 3 words.

It's not an industry, it's a fucking sport and the supporters who see it as a sport are the reason the clubs exist, not you greedy bastard owners owners who see it as an industry.

Away and play in a wee 3 team league yourselves and give the rest of us peace.

They really should be booted out by Uefa pathetic statement talking about living in an ivory tower they need to start giving something back to the game instead of their money grabbing Esl shocking stuff.I used to quite admire those clubs not anymore the Game belongs to us the football supporters not you.

2 of them didn't make the last 8 of the Champions League and the other got totally outplayed in the semi final.

Why should any of the other good teams in Europe right now accept this assumption that these 3 clubs represent the elite?
