DR on it's deathbed?

It’s been doing that on and off for a while now. However I agree with your sentiments, let’s hope it’s readership continues to dwindle.

I think it’s a shame that these once fabled institutions have allowed themselves to become mouthpieces at best, propaganda outlets at worst, for the Celtic minded and thus distort Scottish societies view of its Greatest Sporting Institution, Rangers Football Club.

I agree. Good people worked in the Record back in the day, however it's now over run by one particular kind. They're only destroying themselves with their agenda, bitterness and complete failure to be neutral on any matter.

The DR website is embarrassing. Full of articles about the Kardashians, Coronation St and folk of Love Island. It's turned in to a version of Heat and OK which for a supposed "Newspaper" is beyond the pale.

Totally agree.

The DR was part of the very fabric of Scotland and was more than a newspaper, it was part of working class life. Now? It lets its journalists call us huns, it attacks Rangers with proven lies, it has become nothing more than a mouthpiece for a certain club.

It destroyed itself by attacking its biggest percentage of readers. Reap what you sow.

Haven't bought it for years, though had a look at someones in work yesterday. Has went from being bad to absolute shambolic. Noticed that snp nedette boot mhari black has a page in it now ffs

Please let this happen.Everything Timmy touches it turns to shit. They truly are king Midas in reverse.

Print Media has had its day. There will always be a small circulation for some titles that are highly specialised or niché, such as fashion, motoring, hobby, politics etc - but newspapers will end up the way of Town Criers - a novelty from a bygone age.

Quite why the DR thought the way to restore plummeting circulation was to become a Celtic View tribute act is beyond any logic

I came out of the newspaper game as a career some years back because I could see that owners and senior managers did not understand the online market. I am a grey haired dinosaur but I could see what was coming. I still do a bit of freelance work because I enjoy it.
People who look at trash like the Kardashians online are more likely to use the internet to buy make up and clothes than they will look to find news.
Although I can't stand what the Retard has become, it is another case of men with grey hair still trying to compete in an environment they do not understand but they are too stupid to give up the power.
What has happened is that the lunatics have taken over the asylum. The desperation to cling on to what readership is left has been a surge to appeal to the lowest common denominator - in Scotland's case Timmy -
and hope that these guys will continue to buy.
However, that demographic have little purchasing power and advertisers analysing readership are increasingly seeing the falling purchasing value.
Result = suicide. The idiots in charge are enjoying their moment of power but they know it is inevitable they will be mowed down when they get out of the trenches and go over the top.

My old dad used to get it out of habit more than anything, glanced at it a couple of times years ago, was absolute gash, so bad! I have no idea what target readership they were after!(Apart from their sport section, obvious who that was pandering to!) A total mess of a publication.

Daily Record now also part of the same group that own the Express.

Recent deal brings together Trinity Mirror’s 130 titles, including the Mirror, People and regional publications such as the Manchester Evening News, with the Express portfolio, which includes its daily tabloid as well as celebrity magazines such as OK! and Star.

Really can’t remember when the last time I purchased a paper it must be over 10yrs ago.The DR went in a certain direction with who it’s target readership it was wanting & it has spectacularly went tits up.No sympathy from this bear, they’ve made their bed they can lie in it.Most people now a days get there news online through social media & 24hr news channels.

Haven't bought it in over ten years, but I am of an age to remember when it really was the only working mans paper. Bought on the way to work for a read at your break or lunch time.
I don't know if it's decline happened when the Scottish Sun started on sale in Scotland, and the Record felt the need to follow the trashy type of journalism.
Whatever happened it can no longer be called a news paper.

If the daily record was to drop to a circulation of 25 tomorrow, every single one of them would still be there - the harsh reality is that in 2018, their print is a very small fraction of their business model.

Their website is one of the most trustworthy and authoritive (from an SEO perspective) in the UK and Google will always drive traffic to it, subsequently generating a ton of revenue.

Its the online precence that needs to take a serious hit for them to be in trouble.

According to Wiki.. dr circulation in January 2010.. they sold 323,831 - In January 2017 they sold 155,772 down 168,059..

I still like to read a paper not only for football but for other sports. The Times is excellent, good Rangers coverage yesterday, good informative writing. Bears could give it a try.

That means never hit one of their links, even if it does look enticing... 'Rangers sign xyz....'

As the man says, 'Avoid' and 'Fake news'...

It is struggling but we need to keep away from giving them web hits that is the only way it will survive

I used to buy the Record every day. It was a terrific paper, and the reports on us were always reasonable, fair and generally honest.

It has now become an arsewipe of a timmy mouthpiece. As other have said, absolutely everything that that lot get their hands on is inevitably turned to shit.

My Dad would be spinning in his grave if he could see the mess of the Record. He worked in Hope Street and laterally in Aberdeen for the record in the 60's & 70's and was proud to be part of the once great paper.

I think people have been remembering a past that never quite existed wrt the Daily Rhecord... it's always been an anti Royalist rag with an obvious negative agenda since I started reading papers in the 1980s.

Granted the sports coverage might have been more balanced years ago but the main content was always stories of the exaggerated victimhood of losers, unless of course it was against one of their advertisers and then they weren't interested!

My late Uncle used to call it the doom and gloom, shock, horror paper and he wasn't wrong then. It has went rapidly downhill in the last decade but it was never great to begin with!

Guessing most Bears on here with nostalgic memories of the Record only read the back pages and maybe the tv coverage?

Always supported Labour.
Never liked it.

Good. Scum rag. Heard it was forced to apologise after an insensitive comment in regards to liam miller after his passing

It's online and paper coverage (DR and local papers in the group) means it can hit 85% of people in Lanarkshire as a for instance.

Tell every Bear in your family to stop buying it and clicking on it.

Keep on telling them.

Jane Hamilton and her mentally challenged editor that rewarded her for lying have cost them dearly.

Normally don't wish anyone the sack..... but....
Jane Hamilton should be unemployed..... make it so.

The only reason it does well online is that like other 'newspaper' sites it gets an SEO type key from Google.
