Extra subs

Last season it was a vote done on each league in Scotland

Premiership , League 1 & 2 voted for 5
Championship didn't get enough votes so remained at 3

SPFL had 5 for the League Cup
Scottish FA 3 for Scottish Cup

Rule has been extended until December 2022 by the IFAB but left to each League and National Association to use it

It's only going to benefit bigger (in financial terms) teams long term. The more they can use their squads, the more chance better players will happily sit on their benches instead of going somewhere else for game time. And the more ways they have to change a game in their favour. It may have a small benefit for us in Scotland, but in European terms it's definitely to our detriment.

I'm pretty sure the vote has already been done for the Scottish Premiership. 5 subs again this season.

Unlimited subs?

Like 5 a side rolling subs?

Better not be correct that would ruin football as we knew it.
Not sure on detail but it is part of some FIFA trial which is also looking at shortenig the game and having a ball in play clock. Think there was other stuff but that was standouts. Infintino? was discussing it a few days ago

I can’t agree, having Hagi, Wright, Aribo, Itten available in any game, Europe or home, gives us as much chance to change a game as any team.
I like the extra subs, it gives the management more options, but also to reward fringe players who have shown up well in training, without disturbing the starting team.
It also means fresh legs for the opposing side, or to replace players already booked. Giving them a better chance to get a result from the game.

5 subs is fine but I still can't fathom out why a sixth can't be usedat any stage of a game where a goalkeeper gets injured and is unable to carry on---i.e. if keeper gets injured early game the substitution can be made leaving the five rule still able to be used.

Not necessarily a goalkeeper, but they were trialing a concussion substitute which didn’t count as one of the 5 subs.

Not quite sure why a trial was necessary mins you, seems like the logical thing to do.

My reason for changing the goalkeeper when injured is recognising the goalkeeper as a specialist position.

FIFA looking at unlimited subs so imagine it will be status quo regards the 5 subs for a while.
I'd like to see this to an extent. It would have to be limited I thong to a set number of opportunities to sub thought to avoid becoming farcical.

Maybe 3 opportunities per team, half time, and if a player is injured.

FIFA came out and said this was false. The tournament that is using those rules has nothing to do with FIFA. Some journo ran a story that FIFA was running it and a bunch of other journos piled in. There is no plans for unlimited subs/30min halves etc.

Glad to hear it. Stand corrected

This is the danger with social media. As far as I was aware it was established it wasn't a Fifa trial and the article had it wrong. Has that correction since been debunked?

Rangers be letting it be known that we are vehemently opposed to the 5 sub rule.

Give it a better chance of it being mad3 permanent

I disagree with this tbh. It's part of the game and no more a specialist position than a centre back or a striker.
Not to mention the fact an outfield player going in goals is one of football's great sights. The atmosphere when Ross McCrorie had that five minutes in nets a couple of years ago was brilliant, and it's even better when it's not your team.
