Tommy Leishman: Legendary Linfield boss who led club to European quarter-final dies aged 83

Mr Leishman was a lovely man. I used to stay about 10 doors away from him in Bannockburn and would deliver his papers as a kid. I mind as a kid he told me he used to play for Liverpool, I couldn’t believe it at the time and way before the internet.

RIP and my condolences to his family.

Had never heard of the guy, but getting
Linfield to the quarter final

Was NI football at a higher level back then I take it?

RIP sir.

No European football was actually just a competition in which league champions could go far due to not having to play the 3 best sides in every other big league as well as champions.

Without taking anything away from Linfield. You only had to knock out two teams and you were in the quarters those days. One team only from the "Big" Countries. Get the Luck of the draw and you could go far.
