Random question - yellow ball

I get the use of the yellow ball during winter, for visibility purposes in times of snow & poor weather.

But since when did it replace the traditional white ball in the SPL? Have I missed a rule change?

Match ball regulations state that at least one of the match balls needs to be yellow, presumably alongside one traditional white one in case of poor visibility.

Obviously, it doesn't make one bit of difference, but miss the traditional one and EPL seem to use white, certainly for the earlier part of the season.

I'm pretty sure there was a study done about 15 years ago or so that said a yellow ball improved players' reaction times. I think the EPL then introduced one around that time.

Think yellow’s the easiest colour for the human eye to detect? Easier for people watching on TV as well.
