Gerrard to Newcastle, we have seen this movie before

Right now it’s not a good fit for Gerrard. Look at their league position, the run of matches they have coming up and the absolute dross he’d have to work with - their squad is rotten. The pressure of staying up and if it went wrong, he wouldn’t last long.

I don’t think Gerrard would touch the Newcastle job, nor will any top manager.
It’s got the touch of what could possibly go wrong, whoever gets the gig. With all the money that they have,I just can’t see a challenge in them.Man City,Chelsea,Liverpool and Man Utd ain’t going to stand still.

In terms of money they can bag anyone interested but theyll want someone who they feel is Box Office and that generally means a Manager with big time EPL/CL experience.

Conte seems a good fit since he loves money and has proven to be a winner over and over.

I think Gerrard would be an excellent appointment from their perspective but I dont see them going after him simply because hes not yet Managed outside of Scotland. He would one of the best appointments they could make at this stage really but Id be quite happy for them to look elsewhere.

IF they’re doing it in phases Rodgers would be a good shout.

I know it sounds mad, but irrespective of who their manager is they should try and get Mbappoe / Harland type players. Being lined with players at that level is a positive

If they really want to ruffle feathers, go for Pep or Klõpp. Not saying they’d accept the offer, but it would mean they’d be looking for more
££££ off their current employers.

I think, given that Newcastle is a rebuilding job, it unlikely that SG would be swept off his feet by any offer that they made. (Been there, done that) That said, money talks and guys who are in the practice of garnering massive wealth could be persuaded by a huge pay day. (Gerrard has garnered significant wealth)

What I do see on this thread is a embarrassing disingenuousness as to how low things had gotten during SG’s tenure. The extent to which the wheels came off in the second part of his first two seasons, was little to do with rebuilding. The team had established itself as a clear contender for the title both seasons only to have a complete meltdown after the winter break.

This smacked more of losing the dressing room or player infighting than anything to do with the scale of the rebuilding job. In fact if anything our form dipped considerably at a similar time last season. Having an unassailable lead in title winning terms papered over the cracks of poor performances as did always managing to win ugly.

In terms of EPL jobs, SG will be judged on the miracle that he worked in terms of Europe and when I say miracle, it is not in anyway hyperbolic. To go from the hellish low of Progres Neidercorn to the incredible highs of Braga, Villarreal, Porto etc, was and still is miraculous.

I think SG is a considerably better manager than perhaps his domestic stats suggest, but for inexplicable second half of the season slumps, he was in title winning position in all three of his seasons in charge. By the second season he had all but destroyed the myth that the filth were invincible.

I suspect in the eyes of those who count, SG is miles ahead of the ‘where he should be graph’ and will have his pick of top jobs when he’s ready. But there were some dark days during the back end of the season before and many more than now would admit it had some major doubts about SG and his influence on the dressing room.

My son is a big Man U fan and I keep saying to him Ollie is a bottler and will never deliver or indeed have the belief of the senior players and that my fear is that Utd might come out of left field and snap up Gerrard. I know about the rivalry between Utd and Liverpool, but Gerrard has the space hopper sized balls to carry such an audacious move off.

More likely than Newcastle imho, but unlikely, though befitting of his burgeoning reputation.

That's not really true, at all.
It actually is, our post first half of the season was quite poor on the whole, the filth results towards the end put a bit of a gloss on things…We were nowhere near our first half of the season form until then and that was reflected in our Europa league exit, we’d have thumped Slavia had we maintained our early season form!

It's actually not, I would like to think the part about "our poor first half of the season" is some form of typo as it makes little sense.

In the league in the second half of last season we remained undefeated, battered Celtic and Aberdeen, went to Easter Road and Pittodrie and won and comfortably dispatched a few sides, 5 against Ross County, 4 against Dundee United, 3 at St Johnstone, we were still regularly handling teams with ease.

The notion the second half of last season was in anyway comparable to the two seasons before or even that there was a severe dip in form is slightly odd. As is the idea we were ever at any stage going to thump Slavia.

Have it your way and I didn’t say it was in anyway such a pronounced dip in form, but we were at times going through the motions and not performing with the flair of earlier in the season.

It's not "my way" it is results and performances that took place on big muckle green football pitches, I didn't just make these events up.

IF the scum had won that match we’d be on the same points as them, thank fućk we won.

Our form, or lack thereof, has seriously taken the pressure off of Postegoknew & co.

Mate there’s absolutely ZERO chance gerrard would take the Man united job

I mean you don’t think that’d ever happen do you seriously? Haha

Can't see this happening tbh. Hope not.
With the money they now have they'll want an experienced top top level European manager.

I don’t think there is any chance at all of Gerrard being the next Toon manager, that said, it is going to be fascinating watching it all unfold, my Bro goes down to watch them a lot, I’ve tagged along a few times too, we sit in the platinum lounge, it’s a fantastic day out, I wonder what the prices will be like in the next couple of seasons?

After the Hibs game I was actually "happy" international break was coming.

Give us time to get some bodies back (Jack, Kent?), rest some players who have played a lot of football, give the coaching staff more time to work with the guys still here without playing games every 3 days, and perhaps allow some to find form and have a "reset".

But with the like of this, and the Balogun "injury" thread - where we're almost at the point of suggesting Morelos, McLaughlin or Jimmy Bell fill in at CB - I cant wait for international week to fcuk off again and get back to some "normality".

Absolute mental. He won’t be Newcastle manager and he certainly won’t take the Utd gig. It’s just complete and utter timmy porn.

Those that write Gerrard off, winning one out of 9, as Lennon did, as Celtic fans do and fail to admit and ignore that next season a Scottish team will go direct into the Champions League, probably and hopefully us.

When Gerrard took over where were we ranked in Europe must have been outside the top 100 by a long way, where are we now? Maybe someone can give me the correct stats?

From a train wreck of a club he has taken us to our 55th title but I bet to the outside world what must impress is what he has done in Europe, and entry into the Champions League would not have happened but for Rangers performances in Europe in his last 3 seasons.

That’s what makes him a catch.

Rodgers now the 7/4 fav with Skybet, Lampard second fav at 4/1, Gerrard now out to 11/1.

I can see Rodgers getting the job. He's possibly taken Leicester as far as he can and would have the chance to rebuild Newcastle with an open cheque book. According to Simon Jordan Newcastle could go and spend one billion next summer and they still wouldn't be breaking financial fair play rules.

Arsenal should have appointed Rodgers, he could do well at Newcastle, even without an exaggerated budget.

Don’t think the Leicester fans would be too fussed if Brenda left. They’ve been growing increasingly frustrated with the team this season and been booed off a few times.

A guy I work with has a mate who’s on the board of Scottish water or Scottish energy(i can’t remember the exact one)who was recently at a corporate golf event with a group of ex Liverpool players. He said some big names were there playing like McManaman,Grobbelar,Fowler and Gerrard was in attendance too but didn’t play,he was just chilling at the bar with his wife for most off it.The guy wanted to talk to him after his round but as he was keeping himself to himself he didn’t want to bother him but he got talking to Fowler who apparently told him ‘there’s no way Gerrard would walk out on Rangers for Newcastle,he’s absolutely desperate to retain the title and get them into the Champions League’.

'The former Liverpool and England midfielder has done a fantastic job in his first managerial role with Glasgow Rangers, winning the Scottish league last season. He would be a popular choice and appears to have the credentials but is also understood to be happy in Scotland. Would take some persuading to move south.'

Latest from The Telegraph. Has him as one of 5 that might interest them but says Favre, Lampard or Benitez are favoured more.
