‘The revelation of the season’ Silva

Will say what I said in the thread last week.

He was a better footballer than I expected, his best performances came in Europe or against Celtic and he clearly had ability.

However, I don’t imagine Las Palmas are any better than us or he’s necessarily playing all that much better there.

Still a fairly young lad, now in the Portugal squad and I wish him well.

Some players just don’t suit our game or can’t handle our pressure. Cedric Itten was absolutely class in Switzerland after he left us, doesn’t mean we should bring him back. Silva took his goal well in that clip but when would he ever get that space in behind playing for us, other than in Europe. He also fell over anytime someone was within 2 foot of him which was embarrassing and so frustrating. He’s also young and will improve. Don’t need him to fail elsewhere to justify that he was bad for us, we seen it with our own eyes.

He was brutal. Only decent game i can actually remember was against Benfica away where he was trying to impress his old club.

You are correct a great performance in his homeland.

However, The rotation with him and Dessers as our 9 was working fine up until then. That is what got us top of the league. By trying to convert him to a left winger from the Motherwell game onwards cost us the league. Quickly eroded the boys confidence

Was nowhere near as bad for us as people were making out. Also, at his age and stage of career he’s going to be on an upward trajectory so you would expect to see improvements over time.

His fifth goal of the season... and we're almost in December. The boy has plenty talent, but he's nowhere near prolific enough to be a Rangers number 9. Ultimately he also proved unable to deal with the WWE rules in our league or the scrutiny that comes at a club of our size, He's probably in the best environment for him now.

Can’t deal with the scrutiny or rough and tumble of Scottish football.

That is the bottom line. Our league may be crap but it is a hard and physical environment. Add that to the fact that in our case, playing in front of some of the most critical and impatient fans on the planet requires a significant level of mental toughness as well.

He wasn't a bad as done felt everyone was going mental about the over reaction to the Johnston tackle which eventually meant Johnston got booked.

Was crazy as folk were like shouldn't be doing that but it was the pr@@ks 4/5 fouls with no intention of getting the ball.

When matondo scored later on Johnston couldn't foul him or he was off

He was inconsistent and played out of position having hardly played was he worth money that they paid for him he'll no but is decent potential there to work with

Always been a very good player, it’s just the usual problem here, shoehorning players into random positions.
Not so sure that’s fair. Wolves signed him for £30m and his goals per game was circa 1 goal in 4. He’s been at a few clubs on loan for over 2 years and has a poor goals return plus he really didn’t suit SPFL as said by others

Cantwell was a bit of a loose canon and failed to deliver in big matches. He’s not exactly setting the heather on fire at Blackburn
Meanwhile Diallo, Tillman and even Lammers are doing great.

How is it not fair?

He is a centre forward who we played at left wing.

Mad what happens when you play him as a number 9
Nonsense.
He had plenty of opportunities as a number nine, even at times during games where wasn’t the selected “number nine”
He had his best game for us against Benfica in Lisbon and he wasn’t a “number nine” that night either.
We do love to get tied up with players in particular positions.
We could take a novel approach and consider what a player, not just Silva, does in a game when both in and out of possession of the ball.

Does being in a different position on the park stop you doing certain things?
It’s only your starting point that’s changing.
Nobody would be telling him not to look for and take up positions depending upon what’s happening on the pitch.

Did he impress at Porto and PSV too?
No he didn't.
However Silva obviously did at Porto to get a move to the Premiership.
As for PSV, if he had impressed there then he'd have got a move there.
He's had 2 loan moves since then.
Not saying that he's not going to become a star, just with us he couldn't cope with the hammer throwers in the Scottish game.

Exactly this, it's been going on for years
Just as well FF wasn’t on the go when Jardine was shoehorned in to right back, Greig to left back, Johnstone to centre half then centre forward then midfield then centre forward, Smith from midfield to centre back, Parlane from midfield to centre forward, McCoist from midfield to centre forward and no doubt another hundred examples.
Poster @dh1963 will be along in a minute.

You must play well every single game to be a success at Rangers. A good game every now and then for Las Palmas or Blackburn means they have found their level

Cantwell doing well down at Blackburn also. Him & Silva are good players but felt they were mismanaged up here. Just my opinion
Cantwell is hardly doing well at Blackburn. He's scored one penalty and it took 13 games for him to do that. A very, very average footballer who if his talent amounted to half his ego would be worth £50m.
