22 shots - 2 on target

It’s incredibly difficult to get shots on target when the opposition have more or less every player behind the ball.

We need to find a way to win these games more comfortably. I don’t know what the solution is, but something needs to change for sure.

this.

A truly awful team today Aberdeen

About half of those were blocked by sheep throwing themselves in front of them. Fair few over the bar which is more frustrating imo. Hit the post. Won the game with second shot on target. Job done. Next.

It's a function of not going in behind their defence.

All our play was in front & too slow resulting in shots being blocked or thumped from a distance

Honestly, 2 shots on target and 1 goal, that`s 50 % to the usual 15-20 %. Every now and then it yields a result if you play a penalty box striker like Roofe, AS WELL AS a Morelos and a few other attackers. He knows where the goal stands and where to move to expect a ball.

Kent, Sakala, Aribo and Arfield. They are all useful players but none of them are clinical and there is almost always three of them on the pitch and in attacking areas. Same with our passing, we played some really slow football today and you look at the squad and very few of them have the ability to spot that split second they can play someone through and they end up slowing the game down before playing it out wide.

Can we not get the winger to get to the byline and put a low hard cross into a packed 6 yard box making sure to take the keeper out of contention. The amount of time we are about the opposition's 45 yard box and do nothing with it is criminal.

Many were blocked. Happens when entire opposition is camped on box. Doesn't mean 20 were off target. God cheer up.

Thought Aberdeen defended well, even if their negativity was embarrassing for the third biggest spenders in the league.

Fashion was guilty of being the most wasteful today.

Better quality players.

It’s how Smith and Advocaat did it.

We have guys like Kent, Aribo and Morelos who have the ability to create something out of nothing, but beyond that we struggle, and if those three are off their game like today, we look devoid of ideas.

To break down a low block like that, you need to use the width of the pitch and quick switches to find space. If we're getting blocked shots, then we're not being patient enough in carving out good quality opportunities and our build up play therefore has to improve.

Teams coming to Ibrox and playing a back 5 is nothing new (and indeed I'm sure Walter used Hamilton's shape against us in one game as inspiration for the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford a few weeks later!).

Trying to walk the ball into the net instead of having a shot and hopefully a nasty deflection

It’s a bit of a misleading stat though, as it only counts as on target if the keeper or the last defender stops it going in. If we hit a shot that’s ‘on target’ but blocked by a defender in the box with the keeper or other defenders behind them, it counts as off target.

Arfields volley that was powerful and on target would’ve most likely counted as off target as it was blocked by a player who wasn’t the last in line to stop it, the keeper was behind him. I know it doesn’t make it better but it’s not as if we put 20 shots wide. A lot will be blocks.

Had the likes of Albertz, Gio, Tugay, Ian Ferguson, who could strike a ball from distance as well, which is something we are severely lacking in right now.

Those teams never came up against Aberdeen teams camped in their own box. Teams attempted to play back then. Not saying g they weren't better players but don't think it tells the whole story.

What do we do in training seriously?
92 shots at goal in the kast 4 league games and scored 5. Who knows what happens at the training centre it certainly isn't shooting practice. The whole team are guilty of wasting chances. Convert 10% we would be in a great position.

3 points is all that matters.

Mind we beat celtic last season with 0 shots on target?

3 points and on to the next one.

WATP

Aberdeen during Advocaat’s time were even worse than they are now and damage limitation was their modus operandi.

We were just far too good for them on most occasions because we could afford guys like De Boer, Albertz, Gio and Mols to provide sparks of brilliance.

We don’t really have that now. We’re a good, solid hard working team at our best, but our most creative players these days would struggle to get into those more illustrious Rangers teams of yesteryear.

As great as last season was, it was a side punching above its weight.

Hard facts are that we just don’t have the quality to make short work of the type of games we’ve played in the last week on a consistent basis.

Unless we trade well this summer, I’m not sure we’re going to have it anytime soon either.

Our tempo far to slow and we allow teams to get behind ball and we are left struggling looking for space. Need desperately to be pushing our defence higher up the pitch and allowing the attacks to be launched quicker. The middlemen in our team are not the paciest and due to how deep we play they don't get up to support Alfie enough.
