The self proclaimed best league in the world began on the 15th August 1992.
When you watch the advert you wonder how many of those players would get anywhere near an EPL team now?
Strange to think that Wimbledon went out the game and are now back and Oldham are now non league

Edit..bloody videos don't seem to work so here's a picture

Just noticed beardsley in the everton strip.

He must have left not long after as he was part of the newcastle team who blitzed their way to promotion to the premier league that season.

I actually thought this was going to be about the game at Dens park where we lost 4-3 then embarked on a monumental unbeaten run of 44 games winning the treble and almost made the CL final. I also met the future Mrs eeboh that night when I got back from Dundee...lol

It is the best league in the world. Money is the downside , wage caps are needed

Ally maxwell was in goal that day no wonder we shipped four.

A team to represent each team today would be much more colourful, ie, at least half would be black/mixed race.
I’m sure there were only 13 none Brits that started the first game or something like that.

I’m ok with the Premier league being a marker point because I was just at the right age to like football (6 years old) and my sticker books help me with trivia questions I get asked now.

Also the first year of the champions league. Very handu

I was on holiday with my mum in Portugal for a week in the run up to that season starting and that advert was playing constantly on Eurosport. (Think Mansell won the F1 championship for the first time at around about the same time.)

The production values aren't as high as I recall them lol. It seemed all shiny and new at the time compared to what had come before.

Ian Brightwell is Man City and Andy Pearce is Coventry I think.

Alan Kernaghan is Middlesborough.

Wimbledon became MK Dons, like Meadowbank became Livingston up here.

Looking forward to the thread in two months time "30 years ago today..."

Rangers 2-1 Leeds
Leeds 1-2 Rangers

So much for the newly created Premier League, whose champions (Cantona included) were put to the sword by McCoist, Hateley and co.

When people mention the great nights at Ibrox, the home leg v Leeds should be in that category.

Not only I have the videos of both matches to watch from time to time, I still have the 90 minutes BBC Radio Five commentary from the 2 games. The atmosphere at Ibrox sounds amazing.

Answers in bold.

For 30 years we have had the following teams win it:

Man u
Blackburn
Arsenal
Chelsea
Man City
Leicester
Liverpool

Not exactly as exciting up the top as we hoped.

2 Scots have won it which is 2 more than English men. Which is a nice stat to throw at anyone slagging our league.

Absolutely, for all the people slagging it off, it did exactly what it was designed to do, which was to make far more cash for its member clubs.

Back then English teams couldn’t compete financially with Italian and Spanish teams, now it’s the complete opposite

Two of them being one-offs.
So, in reality, there's been five teams winning or competing to win the title over 30 years.
The last few seasons have been a two horse race, much like up here.
This season could well be a procession for City.

The fact that the league is awash with cash doesn't neccessarily mean the quality is all that high. All it means is that mediocre players move for and are paid mind-boggling sums of money.
