One of the best rule changes made to the beautiful game imho.
Wrong year and wrong competition but I suppose they have to balance up the Paddy Blunder example to keep the Celtic hoardes at bay!1991 Cup Winners Cup tie against Dynamo Kiev?
The greatest of all time1991 Cup Winners Cup tie against Dynamo Kiev?
Goram struggled with this a little in the beginning. Don’t get me started on Ally Maxwell.
The greatest of all time
Did the 6 second rule (i know it's rarely enforced) come into play at the same time?
Anyone else have a slight heart in the mouth moment as the attacker races in?The greatest of all time
Now let’s get rid of the ridiculous VAR,and for god sake amend the offside rules. One of the best rule changes made to the beautiful game imho.
Puts you right in the mood for tonight’s gameRule change came a bit late for poor old Willie Donachie, otherwise he wouldn't have done this -

Always wondered why defenders dont just flick the ball up to themselves and head it back to the keeper.
They should get rid of the loophole where a player can use other parts of the leg to pass to the keeper, knee, thigh .
I dont think its allowed.Always wondered why defenders dont just flick the ball up to themselves and head it back to the keeper.
Whats the rule that stops it?I dont think its allowed.
They also changed the law to prevent this. It is a yellow card offence to try and circumvent the lawAlways wondered why defenders dont just flick the ball up to themselves and head it back to the keeper.
Im not sure but I remember asking a grade 1 ref about it and wondering the same thing. As Beetzy said I recall him saying something along the lines of it being "manufactured". It was 20 odd years ago but I do recall the ref saying it wasnt allowed.Whats the rule that stops it?
unsportsmanlike conductWhats the rule that stops it?
Yes, roared with relief in the west enclosure as Woods gathered it, I was a bag of nerves that night throughout...lol.Anyone else have a slight heart in the mouth moment as the attacker races in?
Using trickery to pass it back. I can remember Verratti getting done for it a few years ago even though the keeper never picked it up.Whats the rule that stops it?
Correct, one of our boys (06) got booked for this. Not like the ref could've just gave a warning, nah...a card.unsportsmanlike conduct
Not as badly as Snelders did when he chested the ball onto McCall's boot.Goram struggled with this a little in the beginning. Don’t get me started on Ally Maxwell.
Goram was one of the few who didnt struggle with itGoram struggled with this a little in the beginning. Don’t get me started on Ally Maxwell.
disagree, what would old twats like me applaud as if it was a really clever thing to do, rather than just a bog-standard bit of footballing, just because it wasn't necessary 30 years ago? They should get rid of the loophole where a player can use other parts of the leg to pass to the keeper, knee, thigh .
It’s a cautionable offence to do that.Always wondered why defenders dont just flick the ball up to themselves and head it back to the keeper.
Law 12.Whats the rule that stops it?
Goram was brilliant with it right from the start. You could tell he'd been practicing in training. No way he struggled.Goram struggled with this a little in the beginning. Don’t get me started on Ally Maxwell.
I started to play in an over 30s Friday night league around this time.If you are talking about the Cup Final I always thought McPherson was the much bigger culprit that day. Absolute hospital pass to give him in such tight circumstances.
My biggest memory of this rule change was going to watch my dad play for the Alva Glen in the Sunday pub league. Whenever the ball was passed back to the 'keeper everyone would go daft, screaming 'HE CANNAE PICK IT UP'. Even if the nearest attacking player was 30/40 yards away the boys at the side did this. Went on for about 6 months iirc.
Good rule change imo.
I asked a referee once about flicking the ball up and heading it back to the keeper.I dont think its allowed.
Looks like Alan Rough in goals so I’d say it’s fair to blame him. They probably blamed the goalie
Prior to the passback law, possibly the allowance of substitutions? What other rule rule changes have had such an impact on the game do you reckon?
An even bigger shock for aberdeen considering that seemed to be their game plan any time they came to Ibrox.A real shock to the system for one Dave McPherson.
That Danish keeper top was a belter.
