A top player who you've seen and don't rate

Mario Kempes......only joking.

Every big name player I've seen in the flesh has been against us, and they usually put us to the sword.

There is no reason for anyone who knows football whatsoever to name Mbappe, Neymar, Kane , Busquets , Bellingham , Vini Jnr and Muller as also rans and over rated all of them were / are world class and at least 2 of them were / are top 3 in the world. God one of them is in with a shout of being one of the 10 best players ever. Your response to the poster saying it’s not fair to say that it’s totally fair , the only reason people are naming them is because they are mentalists.
None of them are described as also fans thats just not true.
If you're repeating the mentalist patter then it's pointless getting into it with you.

No one in their right mind can say that any of the players I named flatter to deceive.
They absolutely can say that if they've watched them and seen performances to back that up. It's pretty arrogant to tell people who have been watching all levels of football for decades that they are mentalists who don't know what they're watching just because they don't fall over in awe like you obviously do with those lads you mentioned. I'll say no more.

Some laugh this.

Seedorf Gerrard Kane. Fucking hell.

Helps explain a few things you read on here right enough.
To be fair the thread is asking about top players you dont particularly rate. If it was average or even above average players you didnt rate then it would be easier to read replies and understand. The players you have quoted are undoubtedly top players so its in line with the thread.
Ive watched many top players play badly in certain games and a top player i have never really see play brilliantly was Kaka. I will cavaet that in saying i didnt watch him regularly but the odd champions league or serie a game i did catch, he didnt really stand out. I guess i had just been unlucky in the games i watched because you dont play all those games for milan, madrid and brazil if you arent world class.

You have to be fishing.

33 career medals for club and country including two Champions League winners medals and a World Cup winners medal.

Top scorer at the 2010 World Cup, second top at the 2014 World Cup.

248 goals and 274 assists for Bayern.

Aye but apart from that.

Kaka was the best player on the planet 06/07. He was unstoppable for that season, never hit those heights again but still a brilliant player

Harry Kane for me.
I see I’m getting plenty of stick for saying Kane.

He’s a good player but I’ve seen better England strikers ie Shearer and Rooney.

He was shit in the last Euros for England and if Southgate had the balls to drop him England would have won it.

True but the thread itself is mental. It's one thing seeing top players not have a particularly good game. All of us who were at Ibrox in 2007 saw it happen to Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Henry and Messi. But to say I "don't rate" those players because of it is a completely different thing. That would be absolute lunacy.

As expected some absolutely WILD shouts on here hahaha like Saka, Kane, Bellingham, Salah, Müller have to be wind ups.

The one I’m going to go for Rafael Leao. Bang average any time I watch him. I’ll also shout of Nico Williams - he was excellent in the Euros but I don’t think he’s worth the reputed money they want for him.

I've watched Kvaratskhelia several times and have tried to see what the fuss is about, but he's always underwhelmed.

Quick and moves the ball well, but I've yet to see him really influence a game and, frankly, do much.
He was unplayable when he first signed for Napoli. He definitely had a dip but he seems to have some mojo back in Paris. Was brilliant v Villa and Liverpool in the CL.

Feel sorry for him a wee bit because I think if he played in the 90s or the early 2000s he’d be indisputably one of the best players in the world. He’s of a different era.

His close control, dribbling and the way he can shred people at pace and turn them inside out is brilliant. Got a great finish on him too. He reminds me of Dejan Savicevic.

But we are in an era where there isn’t as much focus on trying to individually beat your direct opponent like that.

City wanted him to fulfil a certain role and he's done that very well, and has 3 leagues in a row and a treble to show for it. And he's contributed a decent amount to that himself. Was he ever worth 100 mill? Well no but Villa stuck that release clause on him so that's what it took for us to bring him to the club. He's had to adopt a more disciplined role that's seen him be less of the free spirit he was at Villa. He's often used as one of the sticks to beat Pep with in terms of taking the maverick out of players and making them fit a system. But he's been a good signing for City overall I think.
That’s true mate, and you will have seen him more than me. Perhaps my age, but I just think if you spend 100m on wide left forward player, and you get 11 goals over 3 seasons, that’s underwhelming. Compared to Saka, for example, who has had injury problems too, who has 36 league goals and a load of CL Goals too. It’s not his fault that he has that price tag either.

Can’t think of an obvious choice from current players other than some of the English players who get heralded as being great when they are clearly not. Their media certainly build up young players, many of whom don’t go on and improve any, and in some cases regress after moving to a top team. You do wonder if the edge goes a little for some when you have £10m+ in the bank by the age of 23.

But I have always thought Italy was a bit strange in that regard. A lot of their national team players, and some of their top foreign imports, were not quite as good as players in other leagues, or even when they moved to a different league. Serie A is a league wherein players can be successful if they have a high degree of workmanship and discipline, without being exceptional or displaying flair or creativity. Some of their current players might be playing for big clubs in Italy, but I don’t think many of them would get into a top team in England or Spain. There have been a lot of decorated players in Italy over the years, but you wonder how they might have fared in a different country. If you look at the Scottish players doing well there just now, you would think they might struggle if playing in another top league.

Maybe just a case sometimes of players shining when playing in the right country, for the right team, under the right managers. One wrong move can change the entire trajectory of a career.

lost all credibility when he let Dessers turn him and score at Old Trafford.

Still think about the celebration to that goal daily
Watched the game in Walkabout in Manchester and would love to see their CCTV when Dessers hit the back of the net. Absolutely mental. Can only imagine how it must’ve been in the Rangers end.

With threads like these I always imagine our current players reading the comments and seeing the likes of Messi, Declan Rice and Saka being criticised. What must they be thinking? :))

Even taking Gerrard as our manager out the equation he is one of the finest players I’ve ever witnessed, the greatest captain of his generation imo.

Declan Rice, was crap when he played at Ibrox, didn't stand out at all. Although he does seem to have improved at Arsenal, but no where near world class.
Kate on the other hand, I always thought he was average until I saw what he can do in the flesh, great positional player.
