And so it begins. Man u and liverpool in talks over euro league

Why would this be FIFA backed? I thought they were supposed to take a backstage for anything beyond international football and globally applied rules?
Maybe hoping to eventually include a couple of teams from South America who could be really competitive if some of their best players stopped heading to Europe. They have been trying for years to expand their influence to club competition.

We are going to have to agree to disagree here mate. I totally understand where you are coming from but the draw of Rangers and Celtic is still much bigger. No matter where you go in the world there will always be some sort of Rangers or Celtic supporters club.
This is 100% true, how many pubs have you seen worldwide which are either Rangers or Celtic pubs??
Plenty, is the correct answer.
How many Man Utd, City, Liverpool,Arsenal or any other club you’d like to mention pubs do you see worldwide??
Not many, is the answer.

After the carve up of the champions league format to the benefit of the big 5 countries in European football.
Rangers anderlecht and Ajax were in discussion to form a breakaway European competition and like these other proposals they also came to nothing

I think it seems different this time as they have a bank backing them and with 1 bank already stepping in then others will follow from these countries.

i have predicted this for a while. i think it will cause ripples which will lead to a british league. its the compelling event that drives the EPL to need a fresh injection.
Sir duped was predicting it in the mid 90s- turns out he was right all along:rolleyes:

You know the simple answer , dont you.
a cut of the supposed $6 billion starter fund.

In a way its just like when the teams left the football league in England to join the FA backed premier league.

Think some people on here are pretty ignorant when it comes to how low our viewing figures etc. Are in the modern day
Run of the mill EPL games absolutely dwarf the Old Firm games in the UK never mind worldwide

People talk about supporters clubs and bars but aside from the people going to them no one else cares. The reality is English clubs don’t need individual bars because their games are shown in every bar on the planet

Dortmund, Leverkusen, Leipzig, Wolves, Leicester, Everton, Milan, Napoli, Roma, Valencia, Sevilla, Villarreal, Marseille, Lyon, Benfica, Porto, Ajax, PSV... there’s so many teams that’ll be invited before us outside of the ones creating the league

Big teams have the clout and TV companies would be interested so it will happen.
Hopefully this trickles down to us and get us out of this bloody awful league, if we could be in a tier 2 group with Promotion/Relegation to a top league I would be all for it.
If we could be playing the Benfica's, Ajax's or Leeds every week I would be happy. we would not make the top table.
People will say, yeah, yeah it'll never happen but we are no longer living in the same world, this pandemic has affected football globally not all clubs will survive, plus the big teams across europe are greedy bastards and want the biggest piece of the pie.

Still disagree mate. I'm sure I saw viewing figures when we were in the Championship that on Sky the only game that had been viewed more than one of ours was a game like Man U v Arsenal. Look at the crowds we get in our Stadiums that some of the teams don't get. We are a much bigger name than the likes of even Valencia

Hopefully they leave their leagues to play the new format. It might open a door slightly for a British league. More likely we would be 3rd or 4th tier Eugo league with possibility to advance. If it is closed shop then we are stuck here.

I get what you are saying but I think this is where the TV companies would step in and lets be honest more people would watch Rangers vs Man U than Arsenal vs A.C.

Sorry but that is you looking at things with your Rangers hat on.

We may be a big club but it can never be overlooked that we play in a country with a very small population and unfortunately tv revenue (which is the driver behind all this) is almost entirely dependant on population.

Rangers and Celtic will never be big players until we are free from the shackles that Scotland's population size imposes. Moving to a British League (highly unlikely) and the money it would ultimately bring would see OF as major players within a decade.

Totally agree, we have far more fans everywhere Genuine fans.
The average football fan in places like Thailand and China are mad on English football

Couldn’t disagree more TBH

If we had that big of a pull we wouldn’t have one of the worst tv deals in Europe
Teams like Milan and Arsenal dwarf ya on a world wide scale when it comes to everything that matters in the modern game
Viewing figures, Commercial deals, sponsorship, social media, kit sales etc.

Some people on here are seriously out of touch with the modern game and still think we’re a club that can compete with the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool

What makes someone a genuine fan though? Because they’re an expat?

As you said, Asia is absolutely mad on the EPL and you can Africa to that as well. Scottish football is completely redundant in the modern game when it comes to worldwide appeal

Wolves and Leicester aren't getting invited to a European super league ffs. Nobody wants to see them. It's the man u's and Liverpools that drive English TV money, the rest are fortunate to ride on their coat tails.
Got talking to three guys from Leicester in Spain, it was the year after they had won the Premiership and asked them about it. They just laughed, two of them supported Liverpool and one supported Man United.

The correlation between european football becoming available en masse for consumption by non-europeans, and european football becoming a commercialised, plastic lot of shite, is clear to see

i really wish UEFA and FIFA would implode, or all these teams %^*& off to play in Saudi Arabia, China and America, to let the rest of us get on with it.

I think it would depend on who is deciding it. If it’s European parties then there is no way they would come up with Wolves etc before us
Leicester and Wolves wouldn’t even make the top 3 in a Midlands league. Villa, Birmingham, Forest and WBA all arguably as big or bigger.

Anybody who thinks we have been discussed is deluded. Its all about the big 5 countries. 6 English, 4 Spanish, 4 Italian, 4 German and 2 French will be at least involved.
This is being pushed by Angell of Juve who sees Italian football getting left behind financially.

This is the Americans in charge of Liverpool and Manchester United having a huff because they were told to take their "Big Picture" idea and ram it.
This.
Totally driven by foreigners who now own our biggest clubs and who have no historical feeling for the cultural traditions of a sport that they simply don't understand.
The only dynamic they can comprehend is the one with dollar signs.
These people are a curse on modern football.

If we are not included in the European thing the EPL will be falling over themselfs for us and the scum to join

Is it any different than the original CL when we were a founding member? Were we even a European superpower at that point, all credit to them and hope they do it away from UEFA and their corruption, would also love to be a part of it. One can dream!

Be fine until the novelty wears off. I just hope there’s a caveat in place stating they can never return to their home countries when it goes pear shaped

I'm pretty sure there will be people working behind the scenes at UEFA to invite anyone who has won the European Cup, or something along the linesm

If a European League ever does happen, it's the most likely way we could ever compete financially with the top teams in Europe again. The only other chance would be to join the English game.

This was the end game all along, knowing that the EPL would reject the first plan of 18teams

A week ago manu and Liverpool promote a re jig of the English league.
now both are in this new set up.
coincidence?

If we were invited I'd rather stay in Scotland

I hate everything about the English game right now

Playing in a league run by billionaires would kill me inside and ruin my love for the game

These guys talked about it really intelligently the other night, it's worth a watch imo despite the clickbait-y title

Hopefully we get involved with any reshaping of leagues and get out of this sh*te hole

Agree but even if we gravitated to any new Super/Duper League we would probably still be accompanied by sh*te otherwise known as --pt-- FC

Having reflected upon this,

It could just possibly work with a Super Duper League and a Super Duper League 2 with 20 teams in the SD1 and 20 teams in a SDL2 with promotion and relegation between SDL1 and SDL2 and with promotion relegation from SDL2 to the source ie. UEFA individual country leagues championship replacing / being replaced end of season (EOS) with those dropping down from SDL2 to, and promotion from those individual country leagues being through some sort of play offs or other !

The effect would probably create a much more competitive league in associated countries eg. opportunities for Sheep or St Boo to move upwards :)

There would be an obvious shambles in deciding who went into SDL1 in the first instance but that would be inevitable at the start.

Would Scotland get 1 or maybe 2 places ?

My Bullsh-t moment !

Wine is a B--tard ! :))

Totally missing the point. No matter how many Rangers or Celtic pubs/clubs there are around the world, look up at their tv screens and you’ll see an English game playing. This week Sky are showing 9 live English games and 1 Scottish.
The power is not with clubs and their supporters, it’s with Leagues and their TV deals.

Domestic football in England is dead, has been for a long time but European football isn’t much better either, with the exception of possibly the bundesliga, most leagues are stale and boring. European football for most clubs in Europe keeps things going, and now the rich clubs are going to take the joy away from every other club for their own ends.

Football will eat itself alive due to the greed and preening from fifa. I hope it dies on its arse to be honest.
This fad will fade away when they all get bored and the investors start looking at the newly formed or newly thriving leagues that these greedy bastards have left behind.

If Rangers can directly benefit from the idiots who plan to leave then great, so be it, but the so called big clubs in Europe are dragging the rest down because of the greed they have.

Football will implode, this is just the beginning.
Nothing FIFA or UEFA has done in years has improved football in any way. Hope it all dies on its arse

Whilst I understand where you are coming from I don't necessarily agree.

The bottom line is the Broadcasters will look at the biggest potential sources of revenue which would have a huge influence on any final decision so possibly your assertion may not be totally as you imagine - who knows ?
