Andy Halliday interview on PLZ Soccer Show

Rangers could do with a lot more of the Andy Hallidays' of this world than they could with the types that talk shit about him on Follow Follow and Facebook.

Could tell he was only half joking when he said that.
What are your thoughts? He could definitely be a starter for all but the top 2 sides be mad for him or his agent to discount 10 possible teams to earn a living. How many would take him? Aberdeen and HIVS wouldn't and it's not on the lads ability

If you were a Rangers player would you give an interview to someone who labelled your support as "WATP knuckledraggers" ?

Fair enough, knowing that if it was me I wouldn't give McGuire the steam off ma shite.

We need to understand though the disconnect from rank and file Rangers supporters and the players. They are not glued to FF like most of us.

I was not aware of that, im pretty sure Halliday knew nothing of it and was just giving an interview as requested. Knickers being twisted because of who it was from.

He would earn far more money abroad in America than for any other side in Scotland bar two

He got to do what everyone on this forum would love to have done.

I know if I ever see him at Ibrox I will go and say hello or buy him a pint if the chance arose.

I do wonder where he will go, he would easily get in to the majority of teams in scotland. We all like his attitude, hes just nowhere near good enough for us so best to move on.

Can already tell the "WHY DIDN'T HE DO FAN MEDIA INSTEAD!!!" pearl-clutching whenever a player carries out an interview outside of the outlets in question is going to be a tiresome hallmark of FF going forward.

We all know what Martin/Macguire is - you don't get bonus staunch points for pointing that out.
However, the thing that will live on longer than he will is his "the helicopter is changing direction" line in commentary which gave Helicopter Sunday its name, whether he likes it or not. Having said that I have heard him say that was his best moment in broadcasting...

Okay then. You've convinced me. Halliday clearly loves the mentally challenged media and wouldn't piss on Rangers fan media if it was on fire.
Surely Andy who is a rangers man through and through and I,m sure his friends are rangers fans as Well. Excluding the wee rat Scott allan. Would know that they are a couple of rangers haters.

Great guy.

Talks really well about football and specifically Rangers.

Hard not to like Andy Halliday.

You've jumped a massive step over my point though. It's not about money, what happens in 4 years time then when he's 32 and wants to start a family and come home, is it not sad he would find it so difficult to earn a living in his homeland as a professional athlete

Agreed, I reckon he could play regularly for all outside us and the scum. It's not worth it for him to go Aberdeen, Dundee Utd or Hibs for the abuse he'd get. The rest of the league might just be able to take him on board without their fans being in too much of an uproar.

Personally I'd like to see him leave this hellhole altogether. Think he'd get himself a decent League 1 side in England. Pretty sure he has a decent reputation at that level after his time at Bradford.

In a short summary, he:

- is obviously disappointed to be leaving but no qualms or bitterness about not being offered a new deal

- is gutted he won't get the chance to say a proper goodbye to his teammates and the staff at the training ground and at Ibrox

- hinted that he thought Gerrard was prepared to offer him a new deal but some of the coaches weren't keen

- feels his best position is in midfield but has been a versatile player all of his career, not just at Rangers

- told a couple of funny stories, including away to Ufa when Gerrard warned Flanagan at half time to tread carefully as we'd already had Morelos sent off, only for him to elbow one of their players in the heed 5 minutes later

- spoke of his fondness for Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace and said they are among the best teammates he'll ever have

- said the scuffle with Joey Barton was blown out of proportion and they actually got on well. It was whatever happened between Barton and Warburton in the manager's office that saw him leave

- spoke about the ridiculousness of his red card against Morton

- reckons his next club is unlikely to be in Scotland as he is not very well liked here. Having no kids makes it easier for him to explore more options in England or abroad

Red card was at 66 mins, Halliday didn't come on til 69 mins, so no sure where he got "heidering baws for 40 mins" from although stoppage time was like a year in that game

McGuire is a real Rangers hater along with most of his staff. Good luck Andy Thanks for your service. Once a bluenose always a bluenose.

Andy is gone but to many he will not be forgotten, hope he gets another club soon and keeps playing

People surely realise football players live in a completely different world from your average fan. They wont sit on message-boards for hours a day and dissect every little negative thing ever written or said about Rangers or the fans etc.

Halliday will just see Martin as a normal media pundit who he doesn't think twice about and gave an interview to him.
I dont find that credible at all. Everyone at the club will be briefed on which journos are friendly and which not to trust and this show must be up there with one of the least Rangers friendly going. If that's not happening then it's a total failure from the club to protect its players. Now I appreciate he's no longer our player and free to speak to whoever he likes but he really should be choosing wiser.

What a fantastic lad Andy Halliday is. He speaks very well and in such glowing terms about the club and fans. Exactly the type of voice we need in the media.

Heard Andy on PLZ and on TalkSport this morning. Especially good on TalkSport today highlighting The Asterisk Title that was awarded in Scotland this year.

As much as we support fan media it's unrealistic to be 100% inclusive at all times and it's good Halliday is getting his message out on some bigger platforms for the time being.

Find it strange anyone could watch this and have anything other than positive words to say.
Andy spoke very positively about team mates, staff (including unsung heroes), players and of course fans as well as our chances of kicking on next season - which as we know many of players who had been let go would have found difficult. For me, it gave me confidence in the management team leading our club forward.

One thing is for sure he will continue to speak well of our club to any mainstream media - which is more than can be said for a lot of ex players who took more from our club than Andy ever has.

Perhaps a bad choice to use a mentally challenged who has stuck the boot into us from every media platform he has been on. But at the same time, Andy rose above it and only had good things to say about our club that would never get aired there otherwise. He spoke very well as you would expect.

His time was now to go. The club is trying to go up a level. The player will understand. He gave us his all. He’s got MLS interest. He’d be daft not to take a deal there
I agree 100% however I very much doubt we now have that type of figure in an around the dressing room. Players like him are worth their weight in gold.

Won’t listen to the interview because of the platform. Hopefully H&H or 4lads take the best bits and fill us in on their platforms.
All the best to haliday

Wish him all the best, just not good enough in the end, could see him doing a job for a smaller team in our league tho.

Good interview, although he probably would have stayed, I actually think him playing regular football in his peak years will be better for him.
