Are Tims just the most politically illiterate fans in world football. ?

They say they’re socialists yet think Chomsky or other political writers (who are socialist) are part of some evil Jewish cult. They‘re the type to post anti vac propaganda, and QAnon type crap, which is as far right to political liberalism as you can get.

They. Have. No. Clue. What. They. F*ckin. Spout.

We know of their celebration for racist IRA death squads, and they apparently were flying flags commemorating Spanish Republicanism last night at the Piggery. These would be the same Spanish Republicans who murdered thousands of RC priests and nuns during the Civil War.

No doubt they were simultaneously holding up Vatican flags and Pope Francis scarves. Ha-ha-ha !

Utter morons.
They seem to have a thing for the Basques who historically are very conservative and very right wing. Same with the Croatians. I think it's the Roman Catholic exceptionalism that appeals to them. They haven't squared the circle between support for an ultra right wing church and support for what they think is socialism.

The Piggery hordes are Nationalist Socialists, mate.

Since football violence has been cracked down on, they’ve got more mouthy. In the old days we simply settled scores like men, a proper rivalry.

Now it’s all this edgy support for terrorists or memes mocking the Ibrox disaster etc. It’ll obviously never happen, but the authorities should abolish FBOs and turn a blind eye to us and them meeting up post match and having a ding dong.

Do you know why they didn’t like nationalist, catholic Franco? Do you know what ideology he had? Do you know what he did to those people? Do any of you know why the Vatican supported him?

Are you lot seriously defending a European fascist dictator because Celtic fans don’t like him? Do catholics have to like Mussolini because of their faith? Hitler was baptised a catholic, does that make all catholics nazis?

You are what you accuse them of being and you act like what they accuse you of being. Please actually think before you speak.

In Spanish Civil War Ireland did indeed form up an International Brigade....to fight for Franco.

Eoin O'Duffy's Blue Shirts...

They formed Fine Gael after being seen as politically 'finished' due to their links with fascism.

Celtc's " anti-fascists " celebrate the IRA, who were open Nazi collaborators during WW2.
Worth remembering their pro-Argentina chants during the Falklands War, and their taunting of Simon Weston at an OF game at Ibrox, and of course their pigsty being closed during the Second World War due to the chants and songs being sung then.

But, you know, pyoor anti-fascists and all that.....

The thick cúnts call us huns! They are the most clueless idiots. They think if they just repeat the names you call them and call you it, it means they are correct. Most kids grow out of that stupid stage by about 7 or 8, not them.
As I said in another thread, I just remind them that We are the Brits.

They were singing Christy Moore's 'Viva la Qinta Brigada' last night. I wonder if they sang this verse:

"Many Irishmen heard the call of Franco, Joined Hitler and Mussolini too
Propaganda from the pulpit and newspapers, Helped O'Duffy to enlist his crew
The word came from Maynooth, "support the Nazis", The men of cloth failed again
When the Bishops blessed the Blueshirts in Dun Laoghaire, As they sailed beneath the swastika to Spain."

These men are Celtic fans (probably).

I don’t think anyone is supporting Franco here. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of the Celtic support claiming to be über-Catholics when convenient while simultaneously flying the flag of a group who killed priests and nuns just because they think it’s the latest trend.

If there were International Brigade flags flown at Ibrox then I would bet my house that the likes of the Hag, that Hunter woman, Humza Yousaf, Dornan etc would be claiming it as anti-Catholic.

The Worst elements of the Celtic support are Stone cold weirdos.
I remember sitting on a train and very conscious of this stunning woman sitting behind me. Some drunk Tim comes on and sits beside her and talked at her about Celtic until she moved.

Used to work with a woman who claimed everywhere she went in the world she was welcomed as a Celtic fan and how Rangers fans were hated everywhere. I was the only other person in the place that was interested in football and used to laugh at her and everyone else ignored her but she just wouldn't stop.

I've met Rangers fans of all beliefs and ideas but came across very few Tims who don't actively build their worldview around the same three of four silly things.

Only the contrary I think they are clued up politically - they’re gutter life but they’re smart they attach themselves to causes like BLM, LGBTQ, Antifa etc so that even though the decision makers and supporters are maniacs they are structured in such a way you can’t possibly argue against their cause

That’s why I think we need to be smarter and bring back even more of our Loyalist roots because it’s a legitimate culture but smart enough to drop FTP add ons because it’s a no win and plays into their hands

Agreed. They love to latch on to causes which they imagine are 'progressive'. They also latch on to anything that is anti-British. Like many 'progressives', they don't really think things through. So their support for the Palestinians has crossed the line into anti-semitism on numerous occasions. Their support for Spanish Republicanism doesn't take into account the extent of anti-clericalism in that movement.

They think they are clever but they aren't really.

Don't forget they fly the Irish flag with the Orange section representing Irish Protestants......Wonder how many of them realise that , particularly when they hate us so much....Confused and stupid....

Eh. ?

These maniacs wave far-right Vatican flags, celebrate IRA Nazi collaborators, indulge in overt anti-Semitism that they forced out a Jewish Board Director of their own club, abuse their own Jewish players, supported the Argentine fascist junta during the Falklands War. The list goes on and on, yet they pose as socially-progressive anti-fascists.

I don’t care much for the Vatican, the IRA or the Argentines either, but you can’t condemn them for disliking a fascist dictator while simultaneously saying that they support “fascists”. Pick one. It’s just political and historical ignorance.

They’re certainly the most politically backed fans/club in the world.

And this is the more relevant point tbh.

All well and good for us to point and laugh at their unhinged & contradictory political stances but is that any skin off their backs? They have a remarkable knack for getting their way in this country.

When do they give the Uighurs or the Rohingya a look in, or don't they qualify for inclusion in their wee green songbook of the selectively oppressed?

But that's the point, they are oblivious to their own contradictions.

A vacuousness of Celtic fans if you like.

They want to be seen as all-inclusive but the only all-inclusive these cun t s deal with in on their annual pilgrimage to Santa Ponza to abuse the all you can eat buffets.

You've answered your own question. They side with fascism, Nazis, and anti-Semites while posing as social-progressives.

Let me try to get this. So going back to el Papa. The Vatican supported far-right nutters, Hitler, Franco, Mussolini and the Croatian uber-nutters Ustasa (sp) in WW2. Their usual motives, self preservation and power. They believed if the Communists took over Europe, their religion would be ditched and Christianity- If not banned all together - would revert to Russian Orthodox. Even if that would cause a few clerical bottom-feeders to be martyred

Therefore, the RC church (inc. in Ireland) would encourage siding with an enemy of an greater enemy, in this case with fascist Franco against the left-wingers/Communists.

So you have basically two sections involved in the conflict. Pro-RC, pro fascist, anti Communist, freedom fighters - The Irish Brigade?? Fighting against the much larger, Anti-Vatican, pro-communist, pro-workers of the International Brigade (including, indeed many more, British).

Pick a side (or even both) and claim the moral high ground. Confused am I.

All I can say with any degree of certainty, that it was the first shite away performance by Celtic in Europe, and as ever, they claimed a victory on a technicality.

They’ve probably clocked the “Republican” angle and thought that they’d align themselves with it. Without a clue about the anti-fascist reality of the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War and what the International Brigade was fighting for. I’m an auld guy now and after every new example of their “political“ lunacy I still can‘t decide whether to get angry at the absolute lack of self-awareness and historical knowledge or just sit back and laugh at them

This "Martyr" rubbish that the OP has flagged up on wiki is no more than Vatican rewritten history and propaganda to hide the truth of these priests and nuns. The Vatican was the biggest ally, along with Hitler supplying planes and arms, to Franco's fascist forces.
Many moons ago I worked with an old guy, who as a young man, volunteered to fight with the International Brigade against Franco's fascists. He told me stories long before I read them for myself in books and documentaries in later years. The most vivid of which was entering a village, and on the outskirts, the road embankment was strewn with dead bodies. Apparently they were all socialists murdered by Franco's troops. How did they know they were Republican sympathisers? Well the priest and nuns of that village took Franco's troops with unrestrained zeal round and pointed them out for execution. Then they would take the children to their orphanages and fill the children's heads with propaganda and the evil of their parents.
This old guy happened to be born second generation Irish catholic, a faith that he had long rejected because of his experiences in Spain. He gave me two pieces of advice that I didn't really understand then, but my experience has seen the wisdom of. The first was "Never vote for a political party with the word National in it". The second was that you cannot claim to be a socialist and be a catholic. They are oxymoronic as the Roman Catholic church is the faith of fascism. Something that is self evident through twentieth century history.
The truth is, and we all know that truth can be the first casualty of war as the Vatican has shown, is that these priests and nuns were executed for what the Republicans saw as war crimes and their part in ordering the killings of civilians.
The Republicans of the Spanish Civil War were as far removed from the "Republicans" that the Celtc minded hero worship as I am from Green Brigade membership. They will be turning in their graves to know their cause is being hijacked by these confused political illiterates as the OP calls them. As Immortal Seven points out Eire through the machinations of the RC church there sent thousands to fight for Franco. They wore blue shirts would you believe.

In the parlance of Hollywood westerns the Republicans of Spain who fought to maintain their democratic government were the guys in the white hats. Franco, the RC Church and their modern day equivalents the Green Brigade would always be played by Jack Palance.
A superb read.

PS, I'd have prefered Jack Elam.
