Argentine Superliga

1 goal in 7 games (in all competitions) for Boca since the start of the season. In the last 4, 34 shots with only 4 being on target...

Little surprise that Boca sacked Russo earlier today.

Two wins in the last 16, very few goals and general apathy throughout the team. It ended as many thought it would when Russo was originally appointed. But a league title in difficult circumstances must be applauded.

Youth coach Sebastián Battaglia takes over.

In other Boca news:

In 1981, there were 1703 children named ‘Diego Armando’. Adidas have launched a campaign to gift all 1703 the new 21/22 home shirt

@drgriffen do you know much about Martin payero? Signed for the boro we haven't seen much of him yet but in Argentina he is supposedly going to be a world beater.

In last season's league campaign he looked really good. A number 8 midfielder who had good energy, decent range of passing and liked a shot. Ultimately, though, a lot of it will come down to how he will adapt to knew style of football and culture.

Get it out your head that he is the new Redondo. He isn't. He has the potential to be a really good player, though, so it will be interesting to see how he does.

Thanks mate, interesting to hear, he's being bedded in very slowly he's only played 20 minutes in the league. If he's half as good as redondo that will do me.

In non-football news, the Peronist coalition government suffered heavy losses in the local primary elections yesterday.

Hopefully this is an indicator for the mid-terms in November.

For those not aware: the elections were the reason there was no top league football in Argentina at the weekend. Most things close (if I remember correctly) to ensure people vote as it is mandatory.
