Bailey Rice

Don’t imagine he’ll see many minutes outwith early rounds of SC. He has Jack/Raskin/Dowell/Cifu/Lundstram etc all ahead of him in the ‘central midfield’ role. Boys a talent but it’s just the culture in Scotland.

The ideal time to thrown him in is when the rest of the team is playing well, throwing youth in during times of dis-rest and poor form kills them.

I can’t answer your question but I would say that Leon King has surely proved that “throwing them in will ruin their career if it goes wrong” is wildly inaccurate.

For all we are a tough crowd, we seem capable enough of understanding that young players deserve more than one or two spells to prove their worth.

we need an injection of energy & dynamism in that position, I would argue that he possesses more of it than all of our other options. What is the worst that could happen?

I think this boy has ability, I would love to see more of what he can do. He should be champing at the bit for a shot.

Too many living on past reputation. None of the current midfield mix are playing well.

He’s got promise, but he’s at a stage where at most he will get minutes, as opposed to us relying on him as a first team contributor.

This is similar to the clamour for Lowry to play, and it has been clear that Lowry isn’t ready. Leon King was the same.

I think the bigger issue is getting these younger players game time when it matters. Lowry will hopefully be the better for it after his Hearts spell.

From the little I have seen of Bailey Rice, I think he is the best prospect since Barry Ferguson

This is not a post to say he should be thrown into a struggling team/midfield in the next few weeks btw.
Given our lack of a natural 6, when will we see this boy get regular minutes in our first team?
Definitely see the potential mate, however as others have alluded to, it’s not the time to throw a young talent into a team of misguided senior pros.

The boy is class though, and at some point he’ll command his own place.

A thriving team playing well. The difference.

Stick that boy in the Everton team, would he have the same impact? Doubtful.
We are looking for a spark here mate, maybe it's too much asking a 16 year old to provide said spark. Btw I'd say Ferguson would impact on Everton he looks like a young Shearer

True mate , wouldn't want to set the boy back in his development. Still would prefer the boy to get decent minutes this season

How about Bellingham at 16 playing for Birmingham full season and coming 20th in Championship. Then getting move to Dortmund just as he turned 17?
A generational talent lauded by everyone who worked with him, to the point that Birmingham retired his number.

Expectations are also another factor.

For the record, I’m not advocating not playing Bailey Rice, but the whole ‘play youth cause the older players aren’t doing well’ doesn’t wash with me. He should play on his own value, not in others not performing.

If we're able to keep him, I think we may see a fair bit of Bailey Rice next season. He looks like he's ahead of most his age physically, and another strong year of development will see him close to stepping up.

Jack has this season, possibly Lundstram out of contract in the summer too, so there's a chance of the space opening up too.

As an aside, I thought it was noticeable in the small microcosm that was the Hamburg friendly how easy it was for Rice to operate in the midfield pivot and move the ball forward. That shouldn’t have went unnoticed by management.

There are loads of young Kids from all over who get a chance apart from Scotland
When we were thrown down the Leagues, I suggested to Ally McCoist that we should have a nucleus of about 4/5 seasoned pros like Wallace, Mcculloch etc, and sign all the best young 16/17/18 year olds ( would have cost very little ) and mould them into a team as we were going through the Leagues.
He thought the fans would not put up with it, I was convinced at that time, that we would have supported it

I'm not saying play youths because of their age, I'm saying play them because they are good enough

While not disputing the value of his period in the decade. He wore number 9 and we had red shirts on that day.
You can apologise later, already had this debate here
We played in Red in a League Cup game against them, but 100% stripes in the League match and number 10, he wore number 9 in LCF a couple of games later
