Billy Gilmour on loan?

Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour admits he is keen to leave on loan for first-team opportunities. The 17-year-old Scottish U21 midfielder joined Chelsea from Rangers last summer.

He told the Daily Record: "You see all the boys going out on loan at Chelsea and how much it’s benefiting them. Jake Clarke-Salter and Fikayo Tomori are out just now at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and at Derby County.

"Tammy Abraham is at Aston Villa and Mason Mount is another at Derby and he has just been called into the full England squad. I played Under-18s last year to settle in. Now I’ve moved up to Under-23 and will try to kick on. I’ll take it bit by bit."

Ive tried to watch quite a bit of him online and I wouldnt say he was ready. He's literally a wee boy when you look at him, would get eaten alive here I think. He's a couple of years away yet.

Still at Hearts I believe. Was injured at the start of the season but back playing reserves I think.

Can’t get a game due to struggling physically , Gilmour would be exactly the same if he went on loan to any club up here
He’s at least 18 month away from being ready for any type of loan

Boys that are ready to make an impact in our team need to be on the fringes of their own team imo.

Kent, Ejaria for example have played for Liverpool's first team, all be it on very limited occassions. They also went out on loan and played Championship level. They need to be at that point in their career for me.

As talented as young Billy is, he is still a youth player. If he had stayed with us he would have progressed further, as he probably would have played first team football and developed quicker.

Chelsea may have a world class academy, but i honestly feel he would have been better staying with us. Danny Wilson went from playing CL with us to playing youth football with Liverpool, a terrible move that defined his carrer.

It's a no from me right now.

Gilmour will end up on loan at a National League team to get 1st team experience.

:D

You don’t genuinely believe that, do you?

Chelsea don’t send their prized assets to junior football.

They will nurture him abroad, if that’s the route they go down.

They also won’t send him back to us. It’s too easy. Development is more than just games. It will be culture and style, along with plenty other broader aspects.

Sending him back to his family is probably not in that plan.

He’s young. So he’ll develop physically over time. He’s bulked up a bit since moving south though.

He may always be built like Darren Fletcher or Stephen Hughes though. It happens.

I do believe it, yes.

The reason? My neighbour is a highly thought of prospect in the Chelsea U23 squad and that is exactly what they 'invited' him to do! Paraphrasing his words 'its ok playing in the development squads but I would much rather get first team experience regardless of the levell' He did that, played a full season in the National League South. As a result he signed an extension to his contract with Chelsea and feels he is a much better 'keeper for doing so.

Is your neighbor Islam Feruz

Why didn't he just stay with us if he were to come back on loan?

Is our training set up really that inferior to Chelsea's?

Their youth department will easily have more than double the budget ours has, hich means more specialised training and some top level European youth coaches. He would also be training with better players as Chelsea will be cherry picking the rest of Europe like they did to us.

He’s not going to “grow” physically all of that much from here on out. He’s a young man he’s not ten years old. He’s the size he is and he’s phenomenal. He’ll make it into the first team somewhere big - Chelsea or otherwise - in a reasonably timeframe and we’ll always remember him as one of us.
