Birmingham fan wants Dowell permanently

I recall he scored a cracker against Livi at Ibrox not long after he signed.

We were 3 up and it was a lovely sunny day.

That's all folks.

If teams weren't allowed to boot us off the park week in week out or actually played football, then we might have had a few more success stories.
I'm in no way defending Dowell by the way, but if you look in just the last calendar year, the players who seem to be doing not so bad in other leagues since departing or loans ending, it's weird.

A couple of Norwich fans I met rated Dowell as well
- mind you they didn't rate Gilmour
They also said Cantwell was a show pony

Please let it happen. With our recent transfer history, Dowell and Davies in a 3 million joint move would do for me.

Folk saying he wasn't terrible. Kinda agree, diabolical is probably more accurate. I've rarely seen a player so lazy or can't be arsed ever. Literally a man down sub, we'd have been better getting the tired player sent off.

I posted similar in the transfer thread—he was the footballing equivalent of a 20-year-old marriage where the only action left is missionary sex, or a meal deal comprising a ham sandwich, ready-salted crisps, and a bottle of water. Zero spice. Zero excitement. Just pure, functional mediocrity.

If I remember correctly, there wasn't too much interest in him when he was running his contract down at Norwich. Only for us to come along and hand him a relatively huge contract. No wonder he was happy to coast as a background actor.

Without a club since 1st July 2024 according to transfer market.

The thing is, Barker wasnt horrendous, hes mustve set himself a wage price and doesnt want to play for less. Either that or hes scunnered with football.
The latter I would think. He could do a turn for someone down there.

Watched the game tonight and Dowell strolled it tbh.

He linked up well with Scott Wright who also had a good game.

Davies has been one of their best players too.

Hopefully all 3 of them remain Birmingham City players and hopefully they go on to have good careers.

They just weren’t of the required standard / have the mentality to play for us. And that’s fine.

There’s been better players than Kieran Dowell who have came up the road and struggled.

Even if we can recover 1.5 between the two of them before wages then that’s a good thing.

Big show pony. Couldn't handle the pace up here so never bothered doing anything other than jogging around like he was "the man".

As somebody said - he's found his level.
If he were a pony he’d have been made into glue by now so he had a use

I genuinely can’t think of any. A couple of goals, and that was it across 18 months.

When he played, he was just kinda…..there.

Given his wages ( £16k a week apparently) and what he cost to sign (nothing), I don’t think we will overly fussy regarding a fee.
are you talking about dowell or davies?

ben davies was £3m with addons upto 4m

should have read the thread i take it your talking about dowell, as alot of folk are mentioning davies

i got mixed up

Think he went to Morecambe in a short term deal for a few months the 23/24 season, didn’t play a game and hasn’t even been training with anyone since. Practically retired by the age of 26. Can’t remember another player falling quite so far so soon after leaving us.

Sorry to have to let a fantastic player go but I suppose if the money is right we will reluctantly have to let him go.

From their forum:

"That is 3 top class players we have taken from Rangers, they first have a bloody good team to release them 3 but thank you very much all donations gratefully received"

League One must be utterly shite.

Feels like he genuinely couldn't be bothered up here and just wanted to pick up a wage.

12 million and he's theirs not a penny less and he'll go with my best wishes B-)

You can understand when you are training all week, sitting watching turgid football and the Manager is flinging you on in the 85th minute once a month. Then decides randomly you are the guy to turn it around and fling you in to the starting 11 after getting pumped by St Mirren the previous game, a game you got zero minutes.

Weirdly his goals and assists for minutes played last year was the best of our entire midfield.

He got 2 goals 2 assists in 494 minutes of league action last season.
Bajrami is on 1 goal 1 assist in 1157 minutes this season

Clement will still find a way of playing him at the weekend
Making out he played him all the time to have a pop at the manager is quite weird.

He played 384 minutes this season under Clement.

We've got 23 players who got more game time than him this season under Clement.
Last season we had 21 players who played more than him.

From our Senior Squad, we only played Cortes (injury) and King less than he played Dowell since Clement took charge. It's fair to say he didn't often "find a way of playing him".

Hemdani never played again.

Search Ben Davies’ name and you’ll see similar comments from the weekend saying he was like a brick wall for them, in a good way. Glad to see they’re doing well. Suits all parties.
Scott Wright is doing well for them too so hopefully they buy Davies and Dowell.

Can then start to send them a few more of our players if they want

I watched the game last night (my partner is a Birmingham fan).

He was really good playing right of a central partnership and using his left foot to get angles on passes.

Scott Wright also completely destroyed the left back he was against all game.

This is the level they can both be more consistent at, whether they're championship players who knows but less pressure seems to be helping Davies (their best defender this season), Dowell and Wright.

We need a certain type of player that can do well in big European games and also in games against a team full of low block park the bus hammer throwers in the Scottish Premiership.

He wasn't suited to either game type.

I don't think the way we played or even being a sub ever suited him. He likes being on the ball and just linking the team, but the way we play is less about control of the game and more about using every possession to create an attempt on goal.

I hope he does well and they sign him. Never had much bad to say about them since they had McLeish, Barry Ferguson etc over there. Dowell for me will be a quiz question though, someone you forgot was here until you play an old FM game or something. Like a crooks or a velicka

Succinctly put.

He managed to make Lawrence look like prime Bryan Robson.
Says it all. He was also as lazy as a council worker.

iu

If he plays well enough between now and May for Birmingham, or anyone, to take him off our hands I'd let him leave for free just to get him off the wage bill. A disastrous signing.
