The main story was the away trip from 80s but anything told about our visit there in 70s ?
Newspapers claim Rangers were cheered off the pitch by the home fans, is that true?I was there. Some trouble at and after the game but nothing compared to the later match.
Rangers advised supporters not to travel and as a result there were few from Scotland.
Wasn't a great match to be honest.
I think the Ira put out some sort of statement warning rangers supporters they would act if we caused trouble in Dublin.oddly enough they didn’t for the game in the 80’si am sure there was a statement from the UDA saying they were willing to escort the rangers team bus
We played Dundalk early 70s no trouble at all at Ibrox
Your right they got full stand. That was in October and November 1968 before The Troubles started for real, though it was building up for sure. Are you maybe thinking of when we played Bohemians again at Ibrox in 1984 and we only got through by scoring twice in the last 6 minutes or something? Now THAT was close! The Bohemians fans, all 6 of them, got the Broomloan Stand to their own (or at least the front or back section, though I seem to recall they got the whole stand).
the away leg Colin Stein scored twice,it was the midweek after he scored his second hat trick in two weeks against Hibs at Ibrox. That was in October and November 1968 before The Troubles started for real, though it was building up for sure. Not as far asI recall. But memories do fade with timeNewspapers claim Rangers were cheered off the pitch by the home fans, is that true?
Nearly 50 years ago but seems highly unlikely so something you may remember.
No mate it was that long ago I thought it was early 70s I was at the game at home I've seen some strange teams against us like Vodvajina and DWS Amsterdam back then as well it's an age thingThat was in October and November 1968 before The Troubles started for real, though it was building up for sure. Belfast Telegraph and Daily Record (Don Morrison) report the team being cheered off so, strange as it sounds, it probably happened. Not as far asI recall. But memories do fade with time
