Hi All,

Last night could be frustrating at times, new Players getting to grips with their new Club and Team Mates. The 11 last night who started, compared to the 11 that will start the season will be significantly different again. When Gerrard took the job one of the first things he wanted to was build from the back, he also wanted us to get the balance right and not be so gung-ho with our Wingbacks. Having been the side who scored the most goals in the League last year, his focus from the off was on the Defence with the addition of McGregor, Goldson, Katic and Flanagan. Now not because Gerrard thinks our frontline is honky dory, but with little time before this game crept up, and without panic buying in the window they concentrated on the area that needed immediate attention. Which worked, Bury a friendly or not, it is now 2 games where our defence has dealt with pretty much everything leaving our Goalie little to do. I am sure Gerrard will be disappointed not to have Coulibaly and Sadiq available. After all, like the defence they have been brought in to offer something different and add a central spine.

Allen, Scoulding and Gerrard continue their work behind the scenes to address the other issues, which clearly from last night was quality in the final third, and in particular service. He is also looking to add another CB, which may give him the option to go 3 at the back like the change he made with success with the Liverpool Under 18’s. For 3 years now Teams have come to Ibrox and play 5 -4 -1 camping in and hoping to hit on the break. It now looks like we have a CB pairing who will be able to deal with that threat of Teams sneaking a goal. Will we suffer as many Home defeats as last season? Absolutely not. But until we add more creative attacking elements, those loses will be converted to more draws than wins.

Gerrard seemed reluctant to dive in on forward players, I can only conclude it is because he is on to something more from Liverpool, and knows if he gets that he will need to be giving them a decent amount of game time. So by buying or loaning more than Sadiq or for example and Attacking Mid/Winger he would then have another issue to deal with, as he would be doing so to potentially then have to bench them to play what he really wants from Liverpool.

In conclusion, the plan appears to be, get by this round of qualifying as best we can, get Coulibaly and Sadiq up to speed for the next round along with anyone else he can get in now. While biding his time to get the greenlight to loan what Klopp is prepared to let go out on loan (end of the window, in time for League kick off). I also do not think Gerrard prefers the 4-3-3, we know from Goldson’s and Katic’s soundbites they have practiced a back 5, 4 and 3. I think he has kept the 4-3-3 to keep the familiarity for the front men who finished last season top scorers as not too implement to much of something in such a short space of time. I also get the feeling he knows he does not have all the personnel yet to change away to the system and formation that he really wants us to play.

Last night was a bit of a blessing in disguise, because what Gerrard got to see is what your hearts, Dundee’s and Kilmarnock’s come to Ibrox and try to do, and what reaction they get from the crowd when we struggle to breakdown stubborn lines. Still very confident, the final 11 come kick off for the season will be a far quicker, meatier and lethal machine.
Nice post BB.

Several of the other factors coming into play are simply the return of players from the WC and their subsequent stay or movement to other clubs playing a big part in addition to the general movement of the transfer market. Allen has already indicated player availability might mean waiting till right up to the end of the window.

Add to that we hopefully will need to wait up till end of evening 16th August to see if we have a guaranteed additional revenue stream to allow more expenditure and it's going to be a waiting game for a few weeks yet.

Logically (or hopefully, I'm not sure which), this might point to the highest caliber of players being the ones last to come in.

Tbf if you read it it says £40m for qualifying for the CL then sold for £20... which is about right
Aye except you don't get £40M for qaulifying

From UEFA webite

Share of TV and Sponsor in participation pot - Group stage - guaranteed minimum fixed payment of €12.7m each (£11.28M), to be boosted by bonus payments of €1.5m per win and €500,000 per draw in the group stage.

Considering they have won 1 game in 3 years at group stage, highly unlikely they will make anything near £40M. And £20M for Dembele, funny how despite their desperate attempts to inflate his value and market his sale no Club has so much as put in a bid enquired.

No wonder Sutton is bankrupt he clearly doesn't research financials. Liewell mouthiece, last week it was Tierney now Everton have walked away put off by their valuation they are talking up Dembele again. And so the cycle continues. 3rd window now the have talked up these two and their valuations have been laughed at by Clubs.

Happy Friday all..

Solanke..
Well rumoured all transfer window. This is not one that if going to happen would happen until Klopp has completed his pre season plans, assessed his Squad and done his own business.

Sturridge has impressed on his return from loan. And appears to now be ahead of Solanke in terms of selection. French news outlets are reporting today Fekir who can play AMF and Striker will finally join Liverpool on August 4th. Liverpool wrap up their pre season against Torino on August 7th. So if! IF! Klopp does decide Solanke would be better off out on loan, and the Player and Development Panel agree on it being the bet move for him,, that appears to best guestimate timescale for when we will find out.

Enjoy your weekened and the Wigan game.

HOW CELTIC HAVE BACKED RODGERS TO THE SUM OF £0 SINCE JANUARY!

This thread was started to highlight the Liewell PR machine that is now back firing. Now I am going to show you, just how ridiculous and outlandish it is.

In January Celtic added

Bain – Dundee – Loan

Hendrie – Dundee – Alleged £1M

Compper - RB Leipzig's B Team – Alleged £1M

Charlie allegedly 2.5M Euros for a 2 year loan.

David Friel who has played part in the Celtic hype let this slip

https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/3057872/celtic-brendan-rodgers-january-transfer-window-david-friel/

“How much they actually cost is a mystery. At the time, there was talk of £1million for Compper and a substantial loan fee for Musonda. Now it appears Celtic didn’t actually pay a penny to get both players on board — but that’s not really the point”

In the summer they have added

Bain – Dundee – Free

Izaguirre - Al-Fayha – Free

Lewis Morgan – St Mirren - Free

Edouard - £9M allegedly

£9M Really?

http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/16103920.Celtic_manager_Brendan_Rodgers_rebuffs_the___7m_figure_quoted_for_Odsonne_Edouard/

Not according to Brendan Rodgers at press conference in March. When a Reporter asked if he would take up the £7M option to buy. Rodgers responded ““Where have you got the figure from?” said Rodgers in response to the perceived sum for Edouard. “No – it’s not that. I’m not telling you what it is, but it’s not that". Rodgers laughed of the value being as high as £7M, so why would they pay £9M if they had a fixed price in his contract below £7M.

Now, they sold Armstrong for a reported £7M. So this would have covered the Edouard Fee

They banked £1M from selling Sviatchenko

This leave Celtic’s total spend since January at £0.00 not a penny.

Also got a large sell on fee for Van Dijk did they not which hasn't been spent? Something doesn't add up.

Absolutely, if they did get that, again so we have been told by the Liewell machine.
Can't believe a single thing that comes out of that club. It's as if they continually lie and distort the truth in order to deceive their supporters into thinking they have all these great assets and haven't sold them. A kind of way to justify not spending any money on transfers but its gotten so ridiculous that even their dumbo fans can now see past the smoke and mirrors.

That being said - Rodgers still has a wage bill that is equal too or greater than the rest of the league put together so his excused are just that. Excuses.

Why are they being so shy about flashing the cash they are always bumming about? Would I be getting warm if I suggested they might need it for a purpose that BBC Scotland won't mention?
They don’t have it unless they qualify for the CL groups, it’s that simple - look at their accounts. Right now their business model just about breaks even without that money, no more than that. There is no “war chest”, hidden or otherwise.

This thread has now served it's intention. If the Tims think Lawwell is suddenly going to open the purse strings they are beyond delusion or convincing. £52M wage bill. The same income they took when they last got knocked out the CL. The sell off will begin.

And hopefully to %^*& some buyers will realise it’s a buyers market and lowball them all the time.

A few more Boyatas and Baldes would be lovely, destabilising the dressing room and making other players not want to go there.

Equally unappealing to genuine stars hoping for EPL attention and young Scottish players. One can only presume that the stupid acquisitions of Ryan Christie and Scott Allan were not completely absent from McGinn’s thoughts.

Yes but they can make £50m by selling Tierney and Boyata (no laughing at the back there)

The PR department is one we really need to get upto the same level as those kunts across the city. We are sorely lagging behind them just now.
Dont need pr, just dont deal or talk to the media.
Do everything by the book and dont wash your dirty linen in public.
We did that under souness/ holmes/ murray ( for most of his tenure)
