A) We didn't pay £7m for Kent.Read this thread back and you'll find that I'm not negative in anyway with regards to Shirley.
Necro, however, stated that Kent is now worth more than we paid for him - which is utter bollocks.
I'd be delighted if that turns out to be the case going forward but it patently isn't the case at this moment.
I'm saying we need a central midfielder with a bit of bite and leadership and that will ignite some fire in the belly of those around him (Jack and Arfield in particular, who I think are naturally more agressive than they have so far shown) I guess where we disagree is that I dont believe we are as big a bunch of losers as you suggest. In fact I believe if we can get the right player it will be the last piece of the jigsaw that will see the whole team perform better. We have a lot of talented players in our squad, we just need someone who will pull it all together. A ball winning midfield would serve us better than buying an abundance of average quality squadies.Surely not serious?
A team that has routinely shit the bed at the hint of being top of the league.
A team who will chuck it after Christmas.
You are telling me adding a 20 year old back up left-back and a midfielder will be enough to stop a team going to 10 league titles in a row?

To me Bassey can provide cover on the left for a hole that caused us problems when Barasic was out. Its interesting Gerrard called him a 'modern LB' which suggests he will be useful anywhere on the left flank. I recognize we are a bit thin up front, but hopefully Hagi will see the forwards getting better suply. We might need a partner for Defoe as I dont see him as a lone striker, but for now, I think the aforemention midfielder is the priority
I wouldn’t disagree, but I think we would need to off load Stewart in order to do that. I get the feeling Alfredo will be here until the transfer market normalizes somewhat. I just hope he recognizes the need to prove himself again. We need a quality centre forward.
2 if an acceptable offer comes in for the buff.
Beale said not long after he signed to take the press with a pinch of salt and that we got a good deal. What?
How is he “worth more to us than £7m regardless”???
If we win 55 then...aye.
It is utterly bizzare the way our fans talk our players down. Pisses me right off.Beale said not long after he signed to take the press with a pinch of salt and that we got a good deal.
He's worth more than £7m to us because we'd rightly laugh at a club if they bid that for him. He's 23 and has an incredibly high ceiling.
Absolutely sick to death of people talking our players down for no valid reason, it goes beyond valid criticism.
I think people struggle with figures like £7m in footbal now.A) We didn't pay £7m for Kent.
B) He's worth more to us than £7m regardless.
Cheers Brendan - for all you lurkersRangers are delighted to announce the pre-contract signing of Calvin Bassey from Leicester City.
The highly-rated 20-year-old defender has made the decision to join the Gers on a four-year-deal with Rangers paying training compensation to Leicester after Bassey decided to make the switch from the Midlands across the border to Scotland.
Italian-born Bassey, who can play as a left back or centre back, is also eligible for Nigeria and England, and will officially become a Ranger when the transfer window opens.
Speaking about his new signing, manager Steven Gerrard said: “There was a lot of clubs interested in Calvin and for us it’s pleasing to secure the services of another young talent.
“He’s a strong and dynamic athlete who is very much the modern day full back. He will develop further and we are excited to have made another strong addition to our group.
“He’s left-footed, physically powerful and enjoys driving forward and is certainly equipped to thrive in the combative nature of Scottish football. We continue to look ahead to next season and Calvin is another positive addition as we continue to build the strength and depth of our squad.”
Sporting Director, Ross Wilson underlined his delight at securing the signing, adding: “Calvin has a really bright future and we are pleased to have attracted him to Rangers.
“The scouting staff identified him at the end of last year and Steven and I have been tracking his situation extensively since then. His ability to play as a full back and centre back will provide us with new depth defensively and doing that was one of our primary targets for this summer.
“He is a young man bursting with enthusiasm and positivity and I know how excited he is to be continuing his journey under the guidance of Steven and the staff.”
Calvin Bassey commented: “I am delighted to join Rangers and secure my future at a club of such stature. When I entered talks with Rangers, I knew this club was right for me. Of course I am thankful for everything Leicester has done for me and I am now very excited about working under Steven Gerrard and his coaching team to continue my progression.
“I have heard about the amazing atmosphere at Ibrox. I can’t wait to start pre-season and take my career to the next level in the famous blue Rangers jersey.”
£7m is pretty much nothing in British football these days. Clubs buy academy aged players for that and don't care if it doesn't work out.I think people struggle with figures like £7m in footbal now.
You want a promising English player from Liverpool? Then at least £7m is your price.
It's a big figure to us and sounds like an amount that we can't sell on, but its absolutely a buy to sell purchase. £7m isn't a massive fee in British football now - it was a price we had to pay and absolutely one that was worth it.
I think Murty came out with the lame excuse after the game that he didn’t change things as he wanted the kids to learn the hard way & figure things out themselves.
If you want to pick a forward player to play in high profile games then Kent is the first name down, 100%.£7m is pretty much nothing in British football these days. Clubs buy academy aged players for that and don't care if it doesn't work out.
For all of the abuse Kent gets, he's one of the few that you know will produce in the big games. He absolutely thrives against Celtic and in Europe, people are too willing to forget how good he can be so they can write him off as an expensive dud.
That is daft and not even funny. One small plus about this covid crap, I don't get on here much when I am away working because it is blocked. FF is usually just a quick read if lucky and not signed in.If anyone wants a laugh go on Rangersmedia and check the forum they have on Bassey, supposedly Barisic wasn't even our best left back last season and should be punted ASAP.
They'd never even heard of him until earlier today and know phuck all about him, unreal. Leicester have produced a number of good youth players over the last few years so this bodes well.Absolutely mental there are people on here complaining about this signing. They clearly have no clue about football and how to build a squad.
