RANGERS are tracking Morecambe winger Carlos Mendes Gomes.

The Senegal-born attacker, 22, has been watched a number of times this season and Gers have contacted Morecambe about him.

SunSport also understands they have done their due diligence on the ex-Atletico Madrid youth who is out of contract this season.

Gomes, who was born in Dakar and raised in Tenerife, moved to Manchester with his family when he was 15

He spent two years in the Atletico academy. His first two years in England were at non-league West Didsbury.

He operates mainly on the right and has been with the Shrimps for three seasons.

Joe Aribo was 23 and had Staines Town and Charlton Athletic on his CV when he joined us.

Your point?
Aribo was a standout that was instrumental in getting Charlton promoted and had Bundesliga clubs after him

This guy has been in league 2 for 3 seasons.

No idea if it's true but it's clear we think there's value to be found in League One and Two. We've signed Aribo, Ofoborh (who's only really played at that level despite coming from a Championship club) and Edmundsson, while also being linked with the Rochdale winger (Bah?), Alfie Doughty and a few others. Wouldn't surprise me if there was legs in this, decent numbers and a good age.

Go tell that to Jamie Vardy
Vardy didn't make an instant impact at Leicester, that's what we need given the position is already crowded.

Kent, Roofe, Hagi, Wright, Aribo and Kennedy next season. We are looking to go up a level, there is no point to making a sideways step like this.

Have to say this has Glen Kamara vibes about it schooled at a good academy and probably playing at a level that's beneath him.

This guy has been in league two for double the amount of time Kamara was at Dundee though.

He's an attacker and has only managed double figure goal contributions once.

1 goal every 3 games this season from out wide is good going potentially identified him early before his rise we have to do it now from a financial aspect

Would be surprised if Kennedy isn't loaned out again next season.

The reality is you know absolutely nothing about the guy. Just like everybody else on here.
Which is the issue, Wright and Kennedy are already prospects in that area.

We need to go up a level, signings like this don't aid that.

There's a video in the other thread, doesn't seem to play as a winger, looks just like our no 10's

To be honest, you can watch a player star and shine at a lower level and then bring him up to higher level and he fails to make the step.
However, you can do the same with another player and he doesn't just make the step up he goes beyond.
The problem is selecting the second rather than the first.

I think one of England's top goalscorers in the last decade Jamie Vardy was plucked from the Conference League at the age of 25 and would go on to star for England.
Who would have thunk it back in 2012 eh?

What sort of signing do you think would aid that? There is every chance a £4m signing from a top league fails to have an impact and ends up a costly mistake, the same way there is a chance a signing like this hits the ground running and ends up an absolute bargain. That is why we have a scouting and analysis department, they are far better at judging players than us as much as we'd like to think otherwise.

I don't understand why we're committing to projects in areas of the pitch that are already too crowded, we had 5 first team CB's at the club and decided to sign a 24 year old with next to no first team football.

Now we have 8 players on the books for the #10 role and we're talking about signing a league 2 player that's going to be expected to make the step up to retaining a title and competing in the champions league. If he isn't expected to do that, he shouldn't be signing.

The two Slavia Prague fixtures exposed our lack of strength in depth at that level, we are filling up the squad with players that might aswell not be there on European matchdays.

We're at a point where current starters should be becoming rotation options, we shouldn't be buying them in.

The season before Jamie vardy signed for leicster there striking squad was the below. By your reasoning they shouldn't have signed him

The English lower league enthusiasts out in force again, seen much of him? I'll put my trust into Ross Wilson and his team, afterall he's got recruitment almost spot on since coming here.

If we are genuinely interested, it’s fair to say he doesn’t sound like the most exciting of signings.

However, I think the whole management team deserves our trust and respect, so if they see something in the boy that’s good enough for me

See when we come up against the likes of Slavia Prague and praise them for finding players who are quality but didn't cost them a lot of money, well this is what they do.
We can still sign a few players who are levels above but we need to scout the prospects too.

How do you know he would be a project player? Because he isn't coming from a top 5 league with a big transfer fee?

Becuase he's 22 coming from a much lower level.

Just because Jamie Vardy exists doesn't change that signings like that almost always take years before you see the best of them.

I know as a support we can be quick to judge and form an opinion of a player.

But judging a guy based on his Wiki is just ridiculous.

I trust the management team.

You've literally admitted its 'almost' always, if we have scouted them properly then the signing likely won't be one of them.

Our success rate on lower money signings isn't exactly high under Scoulding.

They seem to get all of the big ones right which is the most important thing but to say it's likely he won't fall into that category is just wishful thinking.
