Carlos Peña - Will he be a success?

I think I'm in the minority who thinks that the bold Carlos will eventually be a success with us.

Despite rumours of alcoholism, eating pizza hut out of pizza and the like, he's looking trimmer, scoring in training and getting fitter slowly. He's obviously being eased in very slowly by Pedro but if we can get him firing, he will be a huge player for us.

Not sure you are in the minority. For £2.3m anyone stepping into a league as poor as SPL should be like Neymar at PSG. In fact being a flop would be harder to do. People just can't work out why he's not match fit after 10 weeks.

He has to play starting this Saturday we've spent a lot of money of him and game time will only help.

Watching Niko blowing out of his arse after 60 minutes every game won't do if we're trying to win things.

I hope he starts against Dundee. Perfect time for him to show us what he's made of.

I personally think he'll become an extremely good player for us.

I think once he is fit etc he will be a success, showed a couple of good runs through on goal at Ross County away.
Fingers crossed

The managers job depends on it.

We are crying out for creativity and our big money summer signing needs to produce.

A lot will depend on his mentality. He definitely has the ability to be a massive success in the SPL, it's just whether he can be ar$ed to show it.

I'm glad we're taking our time with him. I think he'll prove to be a very good signing. Against Ross County his rustiness let him down but he took up some good positions and almost scored.

It's hard to say. He's got the pedigree of quality but also the reputation of (allegedly) not always being the most professional. But I get the feeling that overall he's going to be a success.

Just dont think he is match sharp. He looked fit enough but you could see he wasn't up to speed.

That being said, he was thrown in at a horrible moment in the game versus County.

He made some nice little forward runs but no one picked him up with a pass. Think i could see what he could bring to the team. Will he do it? Hope so.

Get the feeling he could fall in love with Rangers if the fans get behind him. Guy has had his personnel troubles, what better way to lift that than 50,000 bears cheering you on.

I disagree with your "for £2.3m" line, but that's another debate.

The lack of a genuine reserve league has made it more difficult to get Peña up to speed.

This.

If he doesn’t and we lose to Celtic I see Pedro for the boot.

The board will not sack pedro anytime before January. The amount of time warburton was afforded after far worse results would make you think most people would have come to terms with this by now.

I don't think you're in the minority at all. Fans are just peeved at the fact we have spent a hell of a lot by recent standards on a player we have barely seen. It's all been a wee bit unusual.

However, from the glimpses we have seen so far from him, it's fairly event that once up to full fitness and acclimatised, he will do the job for the team that we hoped he had been signed for: creating that link between midfield and attack.

I'd rather he starts when he is ready. Biggest signing of the summer and most people I talk to are looking forward to seeing him in action however if he is only 80% then he should be made to wait as we can't be carrying any passengers after dropping points at home already.

I think has purposely been eased into it by the manager. I don't go with he isn't fit enough, not match fit sure but no way he isn't physically fit.

I think we seen glimpses of what he's capable of Against Ross county. I'd be starting him and if he's struggling take him off after 60/70 minutes and build him up

I predict he'll be our player of the season and every single person that doubted him right now will absolutely love the fact that he plays for us.

The boy has sheer, natural footballing talent. Whatever it is that's taking it's time for him to settle - will be worth the wait.

Hopefully come FT on Saturday we're confident that the wait is over.

I disagree with your "for £2.3m" line, but that's another debate.

The lack of a genuine reserve league has made it more difficult to get Peña up to speed.

He would have played against Dunfermline had he not been disciplined for bevvying 48 hours before the Motherwell game

I think he'll come good. Get him in the starting 11, a goal or two will get the confidence up and he can kick on. He's got more than enough ability for this level.

He is our 'star' signing like it or not and he is the man to 'make a difference' and so saying "I think he might one day be quite good for us if fit" is underwhelming. He should be good for where we are and where we play, and he should already be showing it.

He made an arse of that, for whatever reason and was disciplined.

He has played since so the manager has obviously got over it. Maybe you could too?

If he is given a run of games uninterrupted to get up to speed then I think he will show his qualities and become a first pick.

He seems to have a good goal return from midfield and it's something we really need.

Hopefully he gets a start on Saturday and shows us what he can do

Seen glimpses of what he does against Ross County and he was involved in the 2nd goal against hivs at Ibrox

The poster I quoted darling was using the lack of reserve football as an excuse for him not being fit which is bullshit

Gets fit and starts games - has potential to be player of the year. If/when the guy gets going I think he's going to prove alot of people wrong.

Not knowing the character of the guy its hard to judge but for whatever reason he hasn't settled right away whether he's been homesick without his family here I don't know.

What I do know is he has to have the next few games before we play the beggars our biggest signing has to play in that months into the season.

Was there any confirmation of this? This is genuinely the first I've read about him being disciplined.

It's given us less opportunity to play him in something resembling a competitive game without the pressure of being "need to win".

He's fit, but he's not match fit. That would have helped.

I refuse to believe that a man who earned 19 caps with a very good Mexico side that made the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup, and who was in the Mexico squad as recently as September 2016, has suddenly turned into a crap footballer.

Therefore, whether or not he turns out to be a star for us, or a flop, will really depend upon how we handle his return to regular match fitness and how motivated he is himself.

If he wants to be a star for us, and I still believe he will be, he needs to be focused on his football again and nothing else.

If I were a betting man, I'd still put my money on him being a tremendous signing. He needs game time, though, starting right now.

I totally get if the guy hasn't settled. He's arrived in a completely different world than he is used to. Sometimes the transition for some is too much. Glasgow must seem like a very wierd place and with almost constant grey skies and generally shite weather he may be struggling psychologically.

Our saving grace is that he may be determined to crack it here so that he gets a move to England. Clearly Hererra, Pena and Morelos are here to then try and get a move to an English club if they can at some point. Hopefully we can benefit from their performances in the meantime.

Or, someone like Pena could go ' f.uck it, back to Mexico'. Time will tell, but I have faith that Pena is a very good footballer. When he clicks into action he will be superb.

The fleeting glimpses that i seen in the Ross County game would make me say yes I think he will be a success. We will create a lot of chances in or around the box, which, with him being a forward thinking midfielder, can only be a good thing.

Bit of an exaggeration there EOL. Plenty players have cost £2m+ and not been a big success. Some have completely flopped. I dont think Pena will flop, I think he will be a good signing, but spending that money does not guarantee it.

I think he will come good, by all accounts he is a great player. Maybe he's taken longer to settle down, language, culture weather etc but he has like minded around him and apparently his family have arrived.

In theory, he will be head and shoulders above most players in the SPL. The guy is talented and has shown that many times in his career so far.

The culture around him in Glasgow will be completely alien to him. Hopefully he can adjust to it and settled down.

I think club and fans alike have shown a great deal of patience so far with Carlos.

He's now fit (according to Pedro), though obviously not fully 'match-fit'. He's had his specialist training and made his 're-introductory' competitive game at Ross County which I felt was important going into the two week SPFL hiatus. He's now had these two weeks more with the squad (bar 4 days off) during which his family have come over which should have seen him more settled.

He now needs to play to get him fully match fit so I'd expect to see him get more pitch time. I won't be expecting world-beating performance in the first few games he plays but I'd certainly like to see the indications that, when he is fully match fit, he will be up among the most significant Premier League performers and hugely influencial for us.

I am kinda optimistic this is going to work out (we'll all find out soon enough).

Yes. I said when he signed, Mexico to Scotland isn't a route very many players have taken in the past. It'll take time. I think both he an Herrera will be successful.
