Celtic face threat of multimillion pound compensation claim(The Times)

It’s absolutely brilliant that she has spoken up about this but she has mentioned Police Scotland, the rancid club and the SFA. Why no mention of the SG? She should be putting as much pressure on them to do their job. Useless and Nikla have been nothing short of a fvcking disgrace in all of this.

She’s looking after the RC vote which her and Salmond have bent over backwards to get. Scum behaviour given the gravity of what has gone on.

They like to think they are a party of social justice. They'll be trying to think of a way to blame Westminster for this, but that's going to take some doing. We have a govt who want to help drug addicts to get their fix for the good of society, but ignore child abuse. As for useless,I doubt he really is a celtic fan. Get the Asian and rc vote, killing 2 birds with one stone. How cynical is that? This country needs saving from these people and fast.

Ruth Davidson has joined opposition parties to demand an independent inquiry into systematic sexual abuse at Celtic FC’s feeder club and its links to the Parkhead outfit.
The Scottish Conservative leader claimed that survivors had been badly let down and called for an investigation to establish “what Celtic FC knew about these offences and when they knew it”. Scottish Labour and the Liberal Democrats also called for a public inquiry.
The calls will heap further pressure on the premiership club to follow the example of Manchester City, which has apologised and offered to compensate victims of the paedophile former youth coach Barry Bennell.

Four men who held senior roles with Celtic Boys Club (CBC) have been convicted of sexually assaulting dozens of children. While expressing “regret and sorrow” Celtic FC insists it is not culpable for the abuse, describing the boys’ club as a separate organisation.
Ms Davidson outlined her views in a letter to a constituent, seen by The Times. “The reports that have emerged in recent years are extremely distressing and while it is welcome that [the CBC founder] Jim Torbett and others have been convicted for their depraved acts, this issue clearly goes wider,” she wrote.
“Any further allegations of criminality must be swiftly investigated by the police so that further criminal proceedings can be brought while necessary. Through a series of trials we now know something of the scale of the abuse committed by a number of men associated with CBC. What we do not know is what Celtic FC knew about these offences and when they knew it.
“These questions must now be independently and fully investigated and, if necessary, a compensation scheme should be established such as that set up this year by Manchester City.”
She added: “It is clear that victims of child abuse in football have been let down and I very much hope Police Scotland, clubs and the Scottish FA will give them the closure they need and they justice they deserve.
“Please be assured the Scottish Conservatives will closely monitor developments on this matter over the coming weeks and months.”
Last month Peter Lawwell, the chief executive of Celtic FC, said that the club had been conducting its own internal investigation for two years.

James Kelly, Scottish Labour’s football spokesman, said that its findings should be made public. He added that it would “clearly be in the best interests of all . . . for Celtic Football Club to commit to a further public inquiry which is open and transparent. I have raised these issues directly with Celtic FC on behalf of constituents.”
Pauline McNeill, a Glasgow Labour MSP and Celtic supporter, said: “Celtic FC should in some way contribute to any reparations made to those affected by historic abuse at CBC.”
A Scottish Liberal Democrat spokeswoman added: “We are in favour of an inquiry.”
The Scottish government said it was awaiting the publication of a report commissioned by the Scottish FA into historical sexual abuse within football. A spokeswoman said: “We will carefully consider its findings.”
Mr Lawwell said: “It would be inappropriate for us to be discussing highly sensitive and confidential legal matters in the media and we will not do so, even if that means we come under criticism for following the due legal process.”
When will wee Nikla declare her views?

Well things seem to be moving in the victims direction, for a change, and about time too say I, please carry on everyone the victims/survivors, need all the help they can get from any direction, I wish all who have gone before in their unbroken efforts, to keep this on the front and centre, of this web site.

Ruth Davidson, 'the intelligent voice of reason'. She should have been the next overall Conservative Leader and therefore, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland instead of Johnson or Hunt.
Davidson has shown that she has the courage, morality and sense of justice (where her peers fear or don't want to tread) to call for a much needed nationwide public enquiry into Celtic, the Celtic Boys Club and the Sexual Abuse and exploitation of children and young people.

I.hope at the next election Davidson stands for a safe UK, Conservative seat as a means of attaining the highest office. I am no Tory but she seems to call it as she see it.

Is this not just a standard response being put out by the Scottish Cons?

Has Ruth Davidson made any public comment on the issue?

The SNP have never ever wanted an inquiry, proof of this is clearly shown by the exclusion of both Sporting and Religious institutions from the 2014 Scottish Child Abuse inquiry. Despite very vocal protests by many interest parties at the time that the remit of the inquiry was fatal flawed by these exclusions the SNP govt very firmly stuck to their guns.

To exclude in particular the Scottish RC Church, which is part of the biggest paedophile ring in World history, beggars belief and tells you all you need to know just where the SNP's sympathies lie, without the RC vote independence is doomed, nevermind being the party in power.

Therefore much kudos to Ruth Davidson on calling for an inquiry. She is the highest profile politician to date to become involved and this should give a big boost to those who have campaign tirelessly for justice, that their calls are finally being heard.

Do I remember right that the SNP have already said its not to be discussed in Parliament ??
SNP do not want it to be discussed in parliament because it will infuriate their core vote, just think about that for a minute
What an absolute blight on that political party and the bigots that vote for them
Radio cattolica do not want to talk about it on air because they are a sports programme only, yet we have shame fc holding 3 investigations into child abuse at their boys football club, and we also have the football governing body the SFA, holding a private inquiry into child abuse at the same time, so it begs the same question as to why they are reluctant to talk about it as well as this happened at a boys club which is obviously sport related
Do we also apply the SNP logic to radio cattolica in that their programme Clyde super scoreboard has an agenda and its core listeners and presenters would be infuriated at this subject being aired for discussion
I think the people running these organisations will, whether they like it or not and whether it goes against their religion or not will eventually have to be dragged into the 21st century
Justice must prevail for the victims and their families, authority has let them down badly
They should have closure when the people who have facilitated the cover up are brought to justice, the sooner the better

Deflect Deny Deflect deny in the hope it will go back into the long grass has worked for 2000 years for their church and 141 years for their clubit is ingrained

So the party that brought us the named person scheme in response to their concerns for child welfare cannot bring itself to comment on what may well have been the worst example of systematic child abuse in British sport. Guess they were not really interested in child welfare after all and clearly had other motives for their named person scheme.

In Scotland it’s got to be the conservatives or we are forever stuck with the snp

The article is more good exposure but it's really just referencing the reply from Ruth Davidson that was posted on here a while ago, it's not about her actually raising it in parliament.

It's disgusting that even with all the pressure from other political parties, the Scottish Government still refuses to sanction an independent inquiry. An absolute disgrace to the decent people of Scotland.

We're still waiting on one of the opposition leaders putting some serious pressure on wee nickla during FMQs rather than sending letters and emails back and forth.

How any human being could vote for the SNP knowing how much they have tried to let this go without saying anything I don’t know.

They are cancer running our country the sooner they are outed the better. But as long they have the nationalist, republican and bigot factory votes they will be fine.

That's the way I read it too,but lets just take it one step at a time. The fact we have the 3 parties now onside with this is good enough for me. It makes the snp and the greens look bad. They are willing to turn a blind eye to child abuse for the sake of votes and that won't go down well for the people who are not part of the sect, which will make it difficult for them to ignore.

I agree with that. It doesn’t seem any different from before. Also each conservative member that’s replied to me has replied with the same reply basically word for word. Granted it maybe strongly worded but it’s action required now imo.

Political pressure has to snowball and back the Nats into a corner with no option but to comment on the filth in the east end and show them both for what both club and govt are,a fûcking disgrace !

Then Justice minister “useless” and the puppet who controls him the Fürher has no where to hide and should be disgraced on a political stage, these disgusting crimes and cover up’s all for vote’s to remain in power and independence at all costs.

With not a grain of empathy or compassion for survivors, their shame and stewardship have stained this proud once country.

The inquiry is doing a lot of good work and religious institutions are by no means excluded. Have you not seen the conviction of several nuns?

The exclusions of sport at this minute needs addressed but who is to say that won't be stage two?

I wouldn't be using the current investigations as a means to beat people, they're opening the floodgates.

Humza Useless declared earlier this week that he was taking a break from twitter, blaming abuse that he receives.

It was obvious that something was about to break that he wanted to hide from.

Now we know what.

As Justice Secretary, he doesn't want to explain his lack of action against his favourite paedo harbouring team.

Superbly put mate. They can't keep on hiding from this as it will look increasingly, that they are putting the welfare of our children below their desire for independence. Lot of good work being done here, but may I suggest that the greens need more pressure on them. They're forever telling everyone that they are looking out for our children's future, well maybe they want to look after children of the present before putting some guilt trip on the rest of us for endangering our children's future.

It is so transparent. The SNP are a disgrace and are not fit for purpose. Education levels are tumbling, the NHS is failing, we're now the drug death capital in the EU and their leaders spend most of their day grievance seeking on twitter.

He is hardly likely to do this before being fully prepared to satisfy those on a fans forum.

Legal processes take time, lots of it. If he is strengthening his case through the addition of others victims coming to light then it should be fully understandable that it is important not to rush matters.
Correct.

There will be an unpublished closing date for victims to come forward by, when a victim does come forward there will be background checks etc to make sure it's not just some chancer trying to get a payout, plus there will be several out of court settlement attempts.

Exactly.

Exactly. Too many part time lawyers on here. Any criminal actions arising from this may already have been prejudiced and will not go ahead. What do people want on here? Really want? Criminal or civil proceedings? Or do they actually know the difference. Criminal puts an individual in the dock and civil the body corporate for damages.
I think it's more relevant to ask 'what do the victims want?'

Defo buddy, another political nail in their coffin of shame and maybe an email as you say to the greens in their view and stance on this, the greens have propped up the snp at times, they get on the ship or go on the list of Harbourers mate, and that’s a list eventually will be hard to shake or hopefully not forgotten at the polling stations when the times come.

Morning bears I initially got response from Ruth Davidson but she is the only person who after dozens of emails to others replied but have had no more back from her after futher email, but to be honest it's up to families to make their stance by organising demos, public and closed door meetings along with fund raising events which would be widely supported by many people who are disgusted by the symbolic way this is being dealt with.

I personally am trying a new route through the attendant of the house of lords who has to pass on emails to all members as there is too many to contact individually,I hope to get some response and will keep bears posted.

Hard to believe that loyalty to a football club can force people in positions of power, especially the justice minister to be on the wrong side of justice. I mean we all love our club but if our club was in the wrong like theirs is I’m sure we’d all want this matter investigated, rights wronged and the club to say sorry.

Faced with such overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing it just doesn’t add up. They really have no shame at all.
I think it's because that rancid club also represents a huge chunk of their core vote - the literal self-identified 19th Century Terrorists, the workshy, and the perm-offended (though you could argue that's all the same).

As their leader said, independence transcends all, even justice for children who were raped.
