Celtic face threat of multimillion pound compensation claim(The Times)

i played against there boys club once when around 14-15 years old and the talking point with us was how well turned out they were with strips and kit, everything looked brand new where as us our kit looked like shit.

That’s because trainers and coaches like Torbett had shirt washing and folding sessions after school and training some nights, basically it was an excuse to assault young boys in his flat in Kelvindale.

And Kenny Campbell was assaulted many times there in these scenarios in front of other boys, one who took the stand and called them liars and praised “Jim”.

Unbelievable DD.

The question is did they do this to protect the beloved name of Celtic or were they threatened/bribed?

You had the boys club captain taking the stand to call a dead man a liar and would never be alone in a car with Torbett.

Torbett rewarded players with jobs in the trophy centre, the captain done well at that job and an awful human to boot,Torbett dropped players of last or furthest away to have his wicked way alone.

Probably both to your question TV1983

Surely a contradiction ?

It would certainly make a very intriguing and disturbing movie when the rest of the sordid details are exposed about what Torbett and the others did, and the extensive lengths that people have went to with the cover up.
The Lawrence Haggerty murder, the secret meeting between five men that was held in Boston's airport where a secret deal was agreed allowing Cairney to resign immediately so as to avoid a police investigation.
The paedophile ring, the boys club games that were never played that Tommy Burns scored in, it's such a web of deception where do you start.
Jock Stein, the Kellys, Burns, and a host of others all knew and did nothing.
It's a massive cover up full of lies and deceit, and how can any Celti@ supporters persecute their own people, kids who were the victims that is just incomprehensible .
To label exposing the crimes as point scoring is an extremely desperate sign of denial at any cost.

Bloody awful when you point out such key issues in this whole saga but your last 4 words stand out more than all the horrors you have listed.

"denial at any cost"
Sadly, that is so, so true :(

Why did Chris White throw the entire Celtic View archive in a skip in 1992?
Every photo ever taken since 1965.
Maybe Mad Joe would oblige if he has a spare copy he could spare , I'm sure he will love to see justice done to any Club that has not followed the rules of " Sporting Integrity " after all the lectures we endured during the EBTs farce ;) .

This whole sordid affair that took place over decades, requires a Boston Globe (Spotlight) type investigation and docu-series, to expose the crimes that took place, and to help bring justice to the victims. It's clear that the MSM Scottish journalists, football's governing bodies and the authorities have no interests or appetite in seeking justice. They are more interested in protecting their team or the RC vote in the case of the SNP.
There is a massive story here for an investigative journalist team. If Scotland won't do it, let's find one from outside that will dig deep and tell the story. I'm in the USA, happy to help out in any way I can. Let me know what can be done to help.

The record report states "Two others associated with Celtic boys club or Celtic FC - a man who cannot be named for legal reasons and Jim McCafferty - have also been caged".

Not asking for his name to be revealed, however do we know why the convicted beast's name is being withheld for legal reasons?
This will come to light soon.

Tims have been raping their own children for generations not sure if it’s too much Poitin on the brain or their blind allegiance to the cult that is synonymous with peadophilia, buggery, mental and physical torture, summary beatings and general cruelty. That’s before you talk about the world wide corruption conspiracy. And they don’t tan well either...

A prolific sexual predator organised lavish official events with guests including a future cardinal and a bishop to celebrate the careers of Celtic FC players, The Times can disclose.

Jim Torbett, founder of Celtic Boys Club, was found guilty of abusing boys between 1986 and 1994 and jailed for six years in 2018. He was given a two-year sentence a decade earlier for molesting players at the feeder club between 1967 and 1974.

It has now emerged that Torbett, 72, organised testimonial events for Tommy Burns, the former Celtic player, coach and manager, and Sean Fallon, a long-serving assistant manager and player, further undermining claims that Torbett had no connection with the Parkhead club.

Guests who accepted his invitation to honour Fallon — Jock Stein’s right-hand man and confidant — included an archbishop, a bishop, the Lisbon Lions European Cup-winners, and Celtic FC’s directors, players and management team. Being given responsibility for such prestigious events suggests he was highly regarded by senior figures within Parkhead at the time.

While expressing sympathy for his victims Celtic have sought to distance themselves from Torbett’s crimes, insisting that the boys’ club was an “entirely separate organisation”.

However, The Times has also revealed that Torbett was hired by Celtic to run their club shops, in addition to his coaching duties, in the early 1990s.

A report on Fallon’s testimonial dinner, held in November 1993, in the club’s official magazine, thanks “Jim Torbett and his associates for organising such a wonderful occasion”. The Celtic View confirmed the guests of honour included “the Celtic directors, Archbishop Thomas Winning of Glasgow and Bishop Joseph Devine of Motherwell”.

In 2018 the Scottish child abuse inquiry heard evidence that Winning, who in 1994 became the second Scottish cardinal since the reformation, offered money to a woman in exchange for her silence over sexual abuse that took place in a Catholic-run residential home for children in the Sixties.

After being elevated to cardinal he caused outrage by asserting that the church had no obligation to report alleged paedophile priests to the police.

In 2013 Devine, who died last year, told a man seeking an apology for being raped by a priest as a child: “Can you not let him off with it? He’s an old man.”

A programme for the Burns testimonial match with Liverpool, which took place at Parkhead in 1987, confirms that Torbett was vice-chairman of the organising committee.

Burns played for the boys’ club from 1970-73 and frequently attended club functions and prizegivings when he went on to play for the senior club and served as manager. He died of skin cancer, aged 51, in 2008.

Torbett was kicked out of the boys’ club by Stein, then the Celtic manager, in 1974 after hearing claims of abuse — but the police were not informed. Stein, who died while Scotland manager in 1985, had given Torbett permission to start the boys’ club.

In March 1984 The Glasgow Evening Times reported that Stein would be making a “personal appearance” at a branch of Torbett’s Trophy Centre on Kilmarnock Road in Glasgow.

After his sacking Torbett was allowed to return four years later and went on to molest more boys, remaining there until 1996 when claims of abuse appeared in the press. Passing sentence in 2018 Lord Beckett said: “You used the club as a front and a recruiting ground for boys who you could sexually abuse.”

In February Celtic said it was “very sorry” the abuse had happened but insisted the boys’ club was a separate organisation.

After Torbett’s 2018 conviction the club issued a statement which said that allegations of abuse at the boys’ club “first emerged in the 1990s”. It subsequently emerged that Celtic launched an internal investigation in 1986 which “cleared” Torbett and his colleagues and stated their intention was for the claims to be “buried once and for all”.

Celtic did not respond to a request for comment.

Not enough rocks for the enablers too crawl under shortly, anyone associated with the club like no other in the past fifty years will be feeling rather uneasy ! Were you a benefactor of the Torbett talents or just a bye stander? Maybe you have no recollection of the past. If you know the history might just be about to come back and haunt you.
What's Provans take on the whole sordid affair ? Hold your breath in anticipation.

Firstly,i tip my hat to you guys who live and breathe trying to get justice for the victims,I have trouble even finishing a paragraph when a victim is discribing the abuse that happened.
secondly, where the hell is the smsm during this next lot of revelations? ,what an absolute embarrassment of a country we live in.there are more people complicit in this cover up just by keeping quiet about it and hoping it goes away.how can they not see that?,damn sure when the house of cards come tumbling down the “quiet ones”will try to pass off the “we were waiting for results if the investigation”

Still processing yesterday's revelations and now this, unbelievable how their fans can live in denial and support that club.

This goes way beyond what many of us thought.

This line jumped out to me:

More to follow on this I suspect.

It is heartening to see the Times recent revelations and the wonderful efforts of posters on here. However, CAN they just ride this out? By they, I mean the police, the Scottish Government, the justice minister, Celtic, the SFA, the rest of the press and other mhedia. Are they able to just ignore this in the tide of covid-19 news until momentum subsides? One would think all media outlets would be picking this up as a huge story. I know there have been hints on here of more to come. My only fear is that this and whatever revelations are to come are kicked down the road until they peter out, and that the so called ongoing ‘investigations’ at the SFA and overdue report will be wilfully delayed until interest ( among the general public at least ) diminishes. Legal action seems to be held up too. Certainly don’t mean to be negative - it is just so exasperating that clocks don’t stop over this.

It's well nigh impossible to think that the people at the top of the club weren't at the very least enabling Torbett, if not actually involved in abuse themselves.

I'd be surprised if Torbett was the ringleader tbh. He was only 20 when he was allowed to set up the Boys Club.

One name automatically springs to mind.

Not asking for his name to be revealed, however do we know why the convicted beast's name is being withheld for legal reasons?

This part jumped out at me too

How the phuck can this convicted beast get anonymity due to legal reason?

If someone is convicted they should have no rights to stop their details and crimes being reported

Yet more beasts being protected.

Probably about to go to court. Which is good. The law must be followed as we dont want them getting off on a technicality.

Maybe they are in the legal system pending further charges and can't be named due to it prejudicing any further legal consequences for the individual concerned.

As I've said before, child sexual abuse should never be seen as the norm, but management and directors at Celtic Football Club would most definitely like to make you think it was.

Celtic Football Club and their disgusting denial of responsibility is sickening, that is also true of the SFA and the Scottish government.

Each had/has a duty of care.

The paedophile ring that was so evidently operating within Celtic Football Club is the most disgusting act of child sexual abuse to hit Scottish sport and the victims of these despicable acts of child sexual abuse must never be forgotten.

Celtic Football Club has to accept it's responsibilities, management and directors at said club, knew exactly what was going on and if their denials continue as they are, at some point, this must be seen as a deliberate act of trying to pervert the course of justice and criminal actions must surely be taken against them.

The victims of these paedophiles, that so openly operated within Celtic Football Club must have justice and Celtic Football Club must accept it's responsibilities.

Why is this so hard for certain people to comprehend...............

Did rolf Harris visit celtic many times and have photos taken and go to events with some of the paedophiles and directors

The narrative needs to change to take loyalty to football clubs/religious organisations out of it and ask just one question;

Do you believe sexual abuse of children is wrong?

It's a moral question - nothing to do with what team you support or what church you attend.

If you answer "no" then you're simply wrong and there's no way you can justify it. It's wrong, period.

What sort of society lets the cover up of large-scale child abuse go unpunished because it's uncomfortable for certain people or organisations ?

Brilliant find!

The victims as a collective unit should sue Humza. Take him to court charged with neglect of his responsibilities to the victims as justice minister. Connect his name to the cover up, expose and humiliate him to such a degree that any politician will think twice before ignoring the victims again.

Give them no space and nowhere to hide and take the information to the every news outlet in England. Make his name forever associated with the ring at Celtic and stain his name and his reputation until he has no other choice but to resign. He is a disgrace.

" However the irrepressible Australian will take himself to Parkhead tomorrow and there will be entertainment before the game by the Celtic songs sung by Dean Park."

Just like Saville, Old Rolf would feel right at home at Parkhead.

There's a reason why Celtic are world renowned for being 'The Paedo's Club'

The problem you have here is, this is the norm for them, as it's always been rife in their Chapels for donkeys years, So covering up is the way to go for them, unfortunately.

Half a century of lies, deceit and cover ups ,Scottish footballs shame aided and abetted by a compliant press and media. This disgrace of a football club is not only allowed to still compete in domestic competitions but also represent Scotland in European competition. Any self respecting association would call immediately for suspension of this clubs licence. Indeed government intervention should be called for due to the industrial scale of abuse which has went on at Celtic FC. The many surviving victims are of course priority and deserve justice for their horrible ordeal. Meanwhile the current regime in charge at shame FC carries on regardless (absolutely pathetic).
