My God. What a fixture card. Apologies for the cynicism level, but can you blame me?

Well done Morton who beat the tims B team in the grotty Greenock grotto.
I'm sure Gus McPherson & Allan McGraw, who are both loyal through and through, enjoyed it.

STILL TO PLAY:

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH
vs. BROOMHILL (5th September)
RANGERS B vs. AYR UNITED (14th September)

CHALLENGE CUP LAST 16 DRAW:
(Made by Billy McNeil & General Pinochet at FIFA World of Fishtanks, Honolulu*)

Alloa Athletic vs. RANGERS B/Ayr United
Cove Rangers
vs. Albion Rovers
Elgin City
vs. Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Hamilton Academical
vs. Aberdeen B
Kilmarnock
vs. Queen's Park
Montrose
vs. Greenock Morton
Queen of the South/Broomhill
vs. Partick Thistle
Raith Rovers
vs. East Fife

Matches to be played on 9th October, unless we're still in it probably, because we're Rangers and we never play a game without it being re-scheduled for some reason or other.

And the Lowland League

Hard lines to Vale of Leithen. I actually thought they'd got a draw and there was a bit of dust on my monitor at first, but it was the only mark on the screen that wasn't dust and they had in fact got pumped 8-0.

Still, Fort William didn't play today, so still neck and neck in the race to see who's not getting grannied.

Other games for the coupon-hungry types who'd bet in a who can piss the highest contest:

And something more interesting than international football.

STV closing down for the night 34 years ago, and I'm sure you'll remember the tune during the listings for the following day's programmes. Not as good as the one STV started with in the mornings, but decent all the same.

(* Sure that's not right, but they always tell you when there's a draw in the League Cup or Scottish Cup. It doesn't matter then, and it doesn't matter now.)

Just watched the Accy Stanley v Shrewsbury game and Sam Cosgrove did very little bordering on nothing for Shrewsbury in a 1 0 win for Accy

Some good games in the West of Scotland.

Pollok with a good 2-0 away win at the Bankies (%^*& the Bankies). Beith beat Ladeside 3-1 after being 1-0 down at half time. Score maybe flatters Beith a wee bit, but they definitely deserved to win the game, First half they really struggled to play through midfield and were caught by a Ladeside break after feeling that they should have had a foul just outside the Kilbirnie 18 yard box. 2nd half they were playing down the Bellsdale Park slope (hill might be a better description - its steep as %^*&) and Kilbirnie just couldn't do much to clog up the midfield and break down the Beith attacks.. Equaliser came quite early in the 2nd. Game winner was a very good header, although Kilbirnie fans might think that the striker got a bit too much time and space to head the ball, and the insurance goal was just a fresh sub taking advantage of a tired Kilbirnie side near the end of the game. Ref could probably have booked a couple of players for persistent fouling. Few wee niggles that might have kicked off but never really ended up doing so. If there hadn't been such a big gap in the league table and Ladeside hadn't had such a shite early part of the season then a wee bit more fight about them might have saw things kicking off. As it was, when Beith got their equaliser, Kilbirnie looked beaten,

In bright sunshine, Lie were 2 up in 15mins against visitors Burgh, one a PK. Burgh deservedly pulled one back before h/t - a central run & strike deflected low into the bottom corner. Downhill, the home side dominated the 2nd half, scoring 3 good goals - wee Tam's 20yd rocket the pick. Smith nodded in too. Burgh scored a really well-worked 2nd, but 5-2 wasn't unfair. Roulston was my MOTM.

Accumulator Stanley. Name comes from being so close to Wigan, where Tote HQ was based.
Bollocks. The name comes from an annoying c unt by the name of Stan Wardrobe who saved the club in the 80's. His phone used to play the birdy song when it rang.

Folk would groan when his phone went off and were often heard muttering "Ach! ringtone Stanley."

Or something.

Nonsense!

Club was owned and operated by Jack Kirby of Marvel Studios. He was doing the original colour painting of the Incredible Hulk for the owners of the company. Sitting in full concentration, in complete silence, his Hulk co-creator's phone rang & Kirby looked round. This caused him to pick up the pink pen by mistake, and who'd take the Hulk seriously if he was pink, for Christ's sake?

Anyway, once he noticed the drawing was ruined, he turned round to his co-creator and screamed, "AAAAAARRRGGHHH!!! RINGTONE!!! STAN LEE!!!"

Ronseal.
