Chris Hughton sacked

That must be a first for him.

I was always suspicious of Hughton when he always seemed to keep his job when he always seemed to survive when managers got the bulletin at Spurs!

Utter cretins...clubs like Brighton should go into oblivion.Cue Mark Hughes or Big Sam from the Guff managers roundabout.

3 wins in 23 for the second half of the season, writing was on the wall. Seems one of the good guys, typifies modern day football - cut throat.

Over the piece surely no one can deny he has fulfilled the remit keeping them in the EPL for 2 seasons?

FFS they have 34 year old Glen Murray at centre forward......

Poor decision. I like Hughton.

Regarding Hughes, I think he's excelled at just about every club he's been at ;

Hughes started his managerial career on a part-time basis with Wales and took on his first domestic job in 2004 with former club Blackburn.

He led Rovers to three successive top-10 finishes in the Premier League before taking charge of Manchester City in 2008.

The Citizens finished eighth in the 2008/09 campaign, and the Welshman departed in December 2009.

In the 2010/11 campaign, he took charge of Fulham and led them to eighth place in the table, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League as a result.

Following his resignation from Craven Cottage in the summer of 2011, Hughes was appointed as manager of Queens Park Rangers in January 2012.

He successfully guided the club to Premier League safety in the 2011/12 campaign but left in November 2012, taking a short absence from football.

Hughes was appointed as Tony Pulis' replacement at Stoke City ahead of the 2013/14 campaign and guided the Potters to ninth place in his first three seasons in charge.

A 13th-place finish followed in 2016/17, and Hughes departed Stoke on 6 January 2018 after more than four years at the club.

He secured a swift return to the Premier League when Southampton named him manager on 14 March 2018, giving him a contract to the end of the season.

After guiding Southampton to Premier League safety two months later, Hughes signed a new three-year deal with the club on 25 May 2018.

However, one win in their opening 14 league matches led to Hughes' departure from St. Mary's Stadium in December 2018.

They have been dreadful since the turn of the year. Spent big and have the fact that there were 3 brutal teams in the league to thank for not being relegated. Clubs like Brighton are weird though, who are they really going to get that makes them not relegation candidates?

It seems harsh from the outside looking in but to a man every Brighton supporter was grateful for what he achieved but wanted him gone. They have been on a slide for some time now. They have an ambitious chairman who wants better than battling to survive. It’s a risky move but understandable. Rumour is Graham Potter is taking over.

3 wins from their last 23 Premier matches.

If shítey Cardiff had got a fair crack of the whip with match officials Brighton would’ve been toast.

Decent manager, very harsh on him.

Boro could do worse than sack Pulis and hire him.

Heard a few Brighton fans saying he’s taken them as far as he can. Signing players who don’t suit the way he tries to play.

Got very lucky that Fulham, Huddersfield were so bad. Lost 0-2 at home to Cardiff and nearly let them catch them. Deservedly sacked imo.

Would go as far as saying if Cardiff hadn’t got that tragic incident with Sala, they’d of stayed up ahead of Brighton.

Can’t understand the widespread criticism of this on social media etc.
Brighton have been rotten for months now - they finished on 36 points, which in many seasons would see them relegated. Luckily for them teams like Huddersfield/Fulham/Cardiff were awful.
If Hughton stayed and their current form carried into next season, they’d be bottom by Christmas and headed for certain relegation.
Yes he did a great job but it’s been painfully obvious it’s time for a change. Too many times teams are reactive instead of proactive. Right decision.

Strange one considering that he kept them in the EPL. Maybe the club feel they need to freshen things up.

His whole football ethos is to not concede goals and perhaps nick one. no matter the opponent.

He's the type of manager when 2-0 down to stick another defender on to limit the goal difference.

If you'd watched brighton for the majority of the season you could tell hughton could not take them any further forward. and when you stop moving forwards you go....?

spent fortunes on players that want to attack but can't so lost the dressing room.

on the face of it, it is harsh but theres always more to it.

I like Chris Hughton. Seems like a really good guy. He's also got a good managerial record. As others have said, what on earth are Brighton expecting?

He signed a no of players to fit into a system he was adamant he was going to play, those players dont fit that system and the results show they were lucky this year to avoid the drop this year. The fans never really seemed to turn on him though which is maybe more a realisation from them as to where they sit in the pecking order.

In terms of their catchment area they have a large fan base, there youth setup has always produced decent talent that was quite often sold on, but I do fear for their survival next year because if they churn out the same dross as this season they will be gone by not long after Christmas.

Also he would be under huge pressure going in to next season and a bad start would see him sacked. New manager comes in and doesn’t have time to bring in his own men and it usually ends in disaster. This was the new manager gets the full pre-season to prepare.

He's a decent manager and has a poxy club like Brighton punching above their weight. Don't really know what more he can be expected to do other than decent cup runs (FA semi) and avoid relegation.

Lump on Brighton relegation next season.
