Club Statement - Nice (A)

Shit, what happened? All I'd heard until now was they'd been cancelling home end tickets. Was there bother?

Police brutality at its finest mate.

Pulsing 1800 people through one at a time into busses while using batons and shields on people getting crushed.

Battering folk over the heads simply trying to get into the stadium. Shields, batons & some version of pepper spray used on both occasions.

Talking items that were deemed acceptable off people despite fans having proof from their own club they are acceptable.

F*ck sake. What is it with European cops. Spanish are always pricks as well.

Everyone who was at the game and experienced any sort of brutality off the snail eaters. Get in touch with the SLO.

The one might have been hopeless last night but with his due it was only the disability officer present at the stadium for the majority. The rest were at the pick up point sorting the busses.

Seeing young children having to be lifted over barriers to avoid getting crushed should say it all. Sickening

To be fair, there's not a lot the club can actually do except raise the issue. Unless uefa are willing to act (haha) or the French police suddenly turn into community support officers nothing is going to change.

If enough visiting clubs complain uefa might look into it but I wouldn't hold my breath.

And what action could they take? Ban Nice because of the actions of the French police?

It’s ridiculous the amount of hassle our fans get in Europe. I can’t think of a single example of a European away support coming to Ibrox and getting anything but pleasant treatment from the club and authorities. Even supports like Legia that came to antagonise. Yet I’ll bet anything we have had more fines than Nice over the years, because singing songs is worse than literally risking lives apparently.

It seems to happen to a lot of UK sides or sides with a big travelling support anyway.
We should start doing what they do, bus them in from Cambuslang 3 hours before the game and keep them locked in for an hour after.

They made a statement about Seville and nothing happened

As many have said UEFA wouldn’t do much but we have to be at them constantly when shite like this happen and fans need to be getting in touch with fan board of UEFA before anything will change.

However my point was last night we had many claiming that there would be no statements and that we where happy at the behaviour and it’s clear the club weren’t.

No we shouldn't

We should continue to treat away fans the way that we want to be treated

Last night was pathetic from the French police, and it was entirely down to our supports good nature that there wasn't bigger issues out of it. Having spoken to a couple of the club security lads last night inside the ground, it was clear they were disgusted by how everything played out. It would also appear to be unfair to pin the blame on Nice too - it was apparently unilateral imposition by the Police

I saw a thread on here earlier about how the UB "pushed" their way to the front of the queue - but that was also on instruction of the French Police as they wanted them in the ground first... something that was apparently never stipulated before

The whole thing last night was a shambles, and should never be a way that we want to see any football fan treated

Will make 0 difference tbh. Only thing that would properly raise awareness to the relevant bodies is refusing an allocation where there is mandatory coach travel. No other sport would allow spectators to be treated like this.

I say this as someone who goes to the Euro aways.

I never want to miss an away game but realistically if a statement in reaction to Seville doesn’t change anything, then no statement will.

I warned everyone before travelling to Nice. Some seemed lulled into a false sense of security because it’s a nice area.

French police are brutality merchants.

I’ll never go abroad again and I’ve made my piece with it.

Good to see we’ve came out swinging for this one

The way the coppers positioned themselves to intentionally create bottle necks was ridiculous

Full credit to the bears who never gave them any reason to start , well as much as I seen anyways

What’s Jim Traynor thoughts on it?

Fans deserved it?

Remember he wrote that crap in the paper then we employed him.

Rangers sticking up for fans has been a long time coming in Europe.

Action by uefa. Fekk all.
Only interested in finding us to bolster their bank account.
Hope everyone got out of there safely with no damage done. Uefa would be to busy looking for pyro and flats to worry about our fans safety

Me and the missus are still here and TBH we have nothing but good to say of how we were treated, but we had home end tickets.
Plod, including riot Plod and stewards were fine, having a laugh and joke and posing for pictures and were very helpful.
Spoke to a few fellow bears this morning who were in the away end that the pre match meeting area was a bit of a shambles but a few fans were acting like aresholes which didn't help the z situation.
Just my viewpoint of last night.

seen statements and requests for info before lets see action and change following this time
How much action do you expect the club to be able to take?

I spoke to Greg and Scott yesterday before the fan zone opened. Both were very clear that they had campaigned against the French Police/Nice on the arrangements. Greg went to FSE and a French Lawyer but the police got their way.

They then spent the day asking people to spread out when they were going in to the fan zone and tried to encourage people to walk up to the bus collection points as slowly as possible as they knew the police were being cunts.

Far too many people just like to have a go but these guys can’t dictate to the police, so fighting our corner and trying to help us where they can is the best they can do.

A second had view point of what happened in the away end?

When you are being kettled in to a small space with riot shields and heavy handed tactics, it’s almost impossible not to react. I was stood with my hands up showing I couldn’t move and one of the arsehole pushed the shield straight in to my face.

The biggest problem was, no matter how slowly you walk up - when you’re kettling a group that is in effect 12 folk wide and forcing them through a gap barely wide enough for 1 person you’ll never succeed in keeping that moving well

If they’d allowed 4/5 at a time through it would have been far better, but what do I know

Even better would have been to just let us get to the ground ourselves, but apparently this is always the way in Nice

Hey mate... Don't have a go at me. I only have an account of how we were treated. My missus was terrified when it all kicked off in the stadium and the streets and Police were great with her... calming her down.
Yours is obviously different.

What’s the obsession with power banks? Was the same in Seville from memory
Handy to have if you are out a few hours before the games having a few beers etc tend not to carry a wallet and use Apple Pay for everything always decent to have some charge in your phone if you need to get an Uber or lose everyone your with.

Sorry mate, I know how handy they are! I meant the police and stewards obsession with confiscating them

It’s easy to say that when you weren’t part of the Draconian policing we all endured going to the game last night.
with the crushes the police created they were lucky there were no serious injuries

Fxxking disgusting behaviour.

I hope the club take this all the way.

No way this happens to visiting fans coming to Ibrox.

Think he meant the obsession with foreign police confiscating them.
They're a necessity for euro trips these days with digital boarding passes and apps for tickets.

Well pardon me for just expressing my opinion of how we found it. Am I not allowed to express our experience of yesterday.
What you experienced is out of order obv but should I just stay silent over how we were treated?

I was arrested trying to enter the ground last night. A few of their ghouls were trying to forcibly removed my mate's battery pack off him. I instinctively dashed over the find out what was going on, ended up in a scuffle, pressed down on the ground and huckled away. In the cells from 9pm to 4 this afternoon waiting on questioning. The lying bastard tried to say I threw a punch, meanwhile I'm covered in bruises. No videos or photos sadly. Even the officers in the station said it was a bullshit case, as was the fact I'd been there 19 hours. Stuck in Nice another night, flying home on my own tomorrow and missed an amazing victory. Gutted.

Wasn't there last night but sounds reminiscent of PSG debacle in Paris years ago. I usually try to go independently to most euro away games. It's much less hassle. Can do pretty much whatever I want when I want and go to the ground up to an hour before gates open and gain trouble free entry to the ground.

Except, the point is, we couldn't do that because we had to be bussed in and out

Well done Rangers,a couple of times i felt like reacting to the police there, but you know if we fight back wel be the bad guys. Its all wrong.
