Copa Libertadores 2019

Clarin gave a rather breathless run-down of the security operations ahead of tonight's game. The gist:

To avoid any repeat of last year, the city has deployed over 1,500 additional agents in and around Monumental with over 200 cameras focused on the lead-up to the stadium. No Federal police involved, just locals to avoid miscommunication as happened in 2018.

One of the concerns is the internal struggle between two of the main River hooligan groups. Nearly 300 barras have got restraining orders with more being added to the list after the recent trouble pre-match vs. Godoy Cruz.

Boca will travel in an armoured bus with police escort and helicopters monitoring the route.

There was no issue for the recent League game and I wouldn't expect much tonight.

It'll be interesting to see the 2nd leg, though, with River coming to La Bombonera.

I know River won last time but they still owe them a proper pumping for their cowardice last year.

Yep, that's right. Bus attacked, players injured but the 'cowards' were Boca...!?

River: Armani; Montiel, Martínez Quarta, Pinola, Casco; Enzo Pérez; Nacho Fernández, Palacios, De la Cruz; Borré, Suárez.

Boca: Andrada; Weigandt, López, Izquierdoz, Mas; Capaldo, Marcone; Soldano, Mac Allister, Reynoso; Ábila.

VAR gives River a penalty after a couple of minutes. Still looked a dive to me.

Boca need to settle quickly otherwise they'll be further behind.

Brazilian referee struggling, seems a little overwhelmed. Another poor decision against Boca, although River have also suffered a couple of times as well.

Boca responding well but already becoming stretched as they push forward and lose shape. Worrying.

EDIT: Highly entertaining opening half. River look more dangerous going forward and it won't be a surprise if they get another penalty - the speed of their forwards is causing problems (as is their diving).

But Boca miss an absolute sitter. Capaldo blazing over from 8 yards.

End-to-end stuff but Boca lack any genuine quality in the final third in marked contrast to River's movement and passing. They should have killed this tie completely.

EDIT: 2-0 Final result. Poor Boca performance - couldn't handle the pressing of River. I can't see Boca getting the required goals in the 2nd leg without conceding at least one.

VAR sends off Capaldo to complete a really shit evening for him. Oh that chance...

Is Tevez finished as a player?

How's De Rossi been getting on? Thought that was a bit of a bizarre transfer tbh.

Wouldn't say he was finished but he is nothing like the standard he was in Europe.

I'll let Boca fans comment on De Rossi as I haven't seen him play (apart from highlights).

VAR playing a big part in the game, but yeah all Flemego in that piece.
Hopefully Gremio sneak an early goal in the Maracana to silence the Rioca’s

All the goal decisions looked correct but the offsides were really close. Could quite easily have been 3-1 but for fine margins.

Luckily, though, the tie is still live so should be a cracking match in Rio.
