Craig Whyte - interesting anecdote re his portrait removal from Ibrox

We aren’t the club to airbrush our history, whilst he should not be celebrated, he cannot be ignored either. I agree with having some form of reminder of their tenure, but nothing to paint them in the same mould as David Holmes

The Mint is still front and centre on the chairmans panel in the blue room.

When Senga Murray was painting it she was told to make him the most prominent, Egotistical bastard

I'd have that bastard removed from every part of our fabric starting with his smiling Fizog in the blue room.
This all day long. The mural should be redone with careful thought to who should be on it, but Murray should have not a single thing to reference against.

As for Somers, he was a non exec chairman and therefore actually nothing to do with anything other than being an independent and impartial signatory. I would be surprised if there was anything related to him on the stadium walls as he was not a formal club officer.

It is a tradition, in the same vein that Rangers managers have their portraits painted on the wall of the Blue Room, that former Chairman have their portrait / image hung on the corridor wall. When Whyte disgraced his office and subsequently left the club, his portrait was removed from the corridor wall. If you ever find yourself in that part of Ibrox, you will note his omission.

Quite right as well. Last Time I was up the marble staircase (a few years ago now) there was a framed signed Neil Lennon top in the corridor, get that pish tae feck!!!!

I hate that lady's front bottom more than I hate Celtic and that’s saying something

I would have kept his portrait on the wall but taken a sharpie to it, a pair of devil's horns, a forked tail and big cock n balls on his forehead.

Should’ve done what was written on Harry Potter.

Left the portrait up but scorch the fucker - leaving it in those who seen it.

I'm in two minds. On the one hand, they (Somers as well) have no place at Ibrox.

On the other, they are a huge part of our history and we have a history like no other. Perhaps they should stay as a reminder of how dark it got as motivation for it never to happen again.

Perhaps a compromise would be for an empty frame to go in that place. No glory but not forgotten either.
This

Dangerous philosophy in any times, history is what it is, it serves to remind us of successes as well as mistakes.
Erasing it has very worrying implications for me, especially as I can see days in future where National Socialists and other unsavoury groups will try to eradicate our future for us.
Don’t encourage them
Nah.

I get what you are saying but Whyte was a crook and should be whitewashed from our history.

I have no problem with good men with best intentions being portrayed within our walls and our history, even if their stay was short and without success, Paul Le Guen for example who is in the managers mural in the Blue Room.

Caixinha should be in there as well

Whyte can fuk off.

Turn their pictures to the wall.

I’m pretty sure there was at one point. Maybe not as prominent as the original post suggests but certainly inside the stadium somewhere.
It was in the study support centre (classroom) in Broomloan house that primary schools visited. It was a symbolic message of inclusion and anti sectarianism.
Celtic had a Barry Ferguson one up in their equivalent.

To suggest there was a framed Celtic top in the corridor at the top of the marble staircase though? How can somebody possibly get that so wrong, especially after typing it and presumably reading it back to themselves!

Going by the time of the post I’d probably suggest a mixture of drink and embellishment for dramatic effect.

A picture of him but full face is Black like they do in the paper to hide someones identity. Acknowledge they were there but dont give him the pleasure of having that rat face on the wall.

David Murray’s should go the same way
Difficult one this, he fucked us up in the end but also made 9IR possible , made it possible for me to see the likes of Gaza & laudrup grace Scottish football in our colours. It all went sour and he will be remembered as bad guy but for reasons above personally I'd keep him up there

Our money in to the club made those signings and NIAR possible. David Holmes set all of this up and made it all possible. Murray got lucky in that he landed with us as we took off.

He put %^*& all of his own money in and financially ruined us.

I send him no regards.

not for me

he did that yes, but then it became known he just wasn't interested in us

it started with the billy boys in 2006 then his relationship with us just went down hill from there

Portraits of our former players and chairmen should be hung up in honour of their commitment and dedication to our club.

Not one of us that lived through the years around 2012 will ever forget what was done to our club without the need of a portrait to remind us.

How many fans will ever be in the Blue Room or chairman's office to see the portraits anyhow ?

Maybe a wee cabinet somewhere with a title above saying people who let the club down or enemies of the fans or something. History should be documented, but definitely with context plasted all over it so he and others are never mistaken for anything other than lizards.

I agree, but also understand the other side of the argument. As a compromise I'd suggest having his picture up there but to have someone draw a cock pishing directly onto it.

Last time I was in the old board room his portrait was still up I’m sure. That must have been when Murty was temp manager.

Brought in Souness and financed the club deck as well.

It's actually Frightening how many middle aged Bears believe the Murray stuff. Drunk on success and some cannot see the charlatan he was.

Whytes image should be on show in Ibrox there is no doubt that is the right thing to do. Every urinal needs one.

How up to date is the managers portraits section of the blue room? I think it was 2018 I was on the Founders Trail and last saw it. I'm guessing Paul Le Guen is still the most recent addition - my memory is so hazy, I'm doubting myself that PLG is even included? I'm sure he is.

Agree with earlier poster. A frame with a sheet of paper with his name, accompanied with the reason why his portrait will never hang at Ibrox.

No Murray means no Whyte or all the other dross.

He should be removed.

I tend to agree it's history and it shouldn't be 'whitewashed' (no pun intended). Rather a small plaque stating what he did. Do we now have portraits of Ally, Warburton, Perdo & SG in the blue room? I seem to recall there were none from Sir Walter?
