Dele Alli

Never liked him but his second season in the Prem was right up there as one of the best ever seen for a player that age. His goal return that season was as good as anything Owen or Rooney managed at the same age.

We demand players who would die for a shirt and have a strong mentality.
Ali has no real interest in anybody or anything but himself.
He was among the first young Englishmen paid so much that he no longer had any reason to worry about football.
A bit like his Welsh counterparts Gareth Bale and our old friend Aaron Ramsey.
At least they love the glory of playing for the country and will do what they can to get fit for that.
Ali was not even interested in performing at a level that would keep him in the England set up.
The only certainty about Tottenham this year under Conte was that Dele Alli would not be part of the set up.

An absolute shocker of a move to Turkey, he’ll be back in the Championship within a year. His bird wont like it and he’ll be back.

Mourinho sussed him out and tried to get a response from him but he’s basically not got the attitude or desire to be a top player.

Since going to Everton for 40m he’s started 1 league game. That’s mental.

They didn't pay £40m for him. The deal was that they got him at a low price with further payments up to £40m based on appearances and I think other achievements which he'll never meet.

He was actually a very good footballer when he made his debut at Spurs but for some reason it all went wrong under Jose M and he has never managed to recover.

Below are quotes from sky sports article from October last year.

The first quote is related to the 16/17 season when DA scored 22 goals.

Aggressive, box-to-box, could score a goal, was nasty, could take the ball, make a pass, he seemed to have all the qualities you would want in a football player."

The ending of the same article read

It was not good enough, a performance laced with loose touches, an unconvincing press when out of possession and little threat inside the area. Alli has taken to hanging back when crosses come into the box. The runs beyond the forward have long since ceased.

It made for a sad sight and does little to persuade anyone at Tottenham that Alli is worthy of a recall. The outlook is bleak as he heads back to the bench against West Ham. The seemingly forlorn hope he can one day return to his best wanes still further.

This was after playing against Vitese in the Europe conference ln his favourite number 10 position.

I don’t know what occupies his mind but it doesn’t appear to be his football career

He was a good footballer and potentially a very good one with application and coaching.

He just wasn’t the £200 million English future World Cup winning superstar he was made out to be.

He won’t be the last.
Dele Alli would be high maintenance both on but particularly off the park so it’s a definite no for me on this one.
I think there’s more to it than simply just not being as advertised because to be fair he was a breakout player and for a time showed real ability on an upward scale.

There’s been no specific stories I can recall of offfield issues but you need only look at the totally collapse of his game to think there’s something going/gone on to make it so. He also looks rather worn out and at his age that’s quite a worry.

No doubt the truth will emerge in time but there’s defo a story, or two, hiding away somewhere.

Can have all the ability he wants, but without heart and drive he won’t get anywhere.

It seems to me he just doesn’t care. He doesn’t have the hunger for it.

Dele Alli Is Actually a Nigerian Prince by Birth, According to His Dad

Dele Alli will be welcomed in Nigeria if he ever decides to leave North London.

Weeks after capping off a tremendous debut season in the Premier League by being crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year, it's come to attention that the 20-year-old has an even bigger honour – he's a real prince in Nigeria.

According to quotes attributed to his dad Kenny Alli, the young Spurs midfielder is a prince of the African nation's Yoruba tribe:

"If Dele went back to Nigeria now it would be crazy. He would have a presidential welcome wherever he goes.
Everybody watches him play and is proud of him. It opens ever door for him being a prince. He can talk to our prime minister and the president if he wants to."

Dele Alli lived in Nigeria with his father for part of his childhood.

He moved back to England when his parents realised it was the best place for him to pursue a career in football.

Ex-Wimbeldon star John Fashanu is also a member of the Yoruba tribe and spoke about how significant it could be for Dele. He says he could even be 'King':

"Dele being a prince in Nigeria is absolutely massive. It would give him a lot of respect if he returned to live here and maybe one day he could be King of the Yoruba tribe. It means a lot of houses, cars and enormous wealth."

Fucking no chance. The guy has always been a dud. Another player who has a vastly inflated reputation because of where he played.

It's a weird one - he seems like a busted flush but he's still young enough that he could turn it round for himself. Wonder what happened to him that caused this downturn? Given the promise he showed I don't believe it was because he just wasn't that good all along.

He's completely done as a player. I think he's got a year or two before he retires. This turkey move will fail, he'll maybe get one more move back here then he'll call it quits. The collapse of his career has been quite staggering.

He's done. 100%

Chucked it.

Minted, will find a career on BBC1 MoTD probs.

It’s a strange one, it’s not like he was a pampered academy graduate who was at a big Premiership club since he was a foetus, he started at MKDons and won his move to the big time by being a good player.
He must have thought he had done the hard bit then and sat back rather than strive to keep getting better.

I can't think of a single player to have successfully rejuvenated their career in Turkey.

Feels like virtually every British export over there ends up cutting their contract short, and accusing the club of not receiving their wages.

A lot of bang average English footballers get totally over hyped by the media when they have a half decent season, then they start believing their own hype and play badly.

How on earth can you possibly compare Bale to Alli?

You don’t win 5 Champions Leagues with a shite attitude FFS.

He became complacent and didn't even bother trying anymore for the money he was getting.

People genuinely used to call him Tottenham and England's next answer to Paul Gascoigne...
